We all know that the home games at St. James’ Park next season will be massive for the club, and we will have to rack up some wins at home next season if we are to survive.
Chris Hughton – with Championship trophy
Chris Hughton talked about the home games to the Evening Chronicle today:
“St James’ Park will be very important for us; the home form last season was exceptional and our away form was good.”
“When you look at the amount of wins we got away from home, it was fantastic.” “That will be a tougher ask next season, we know that.”
“It will be tougher, especially away from home.” “There will be a lot more emphasis on getting results at home.”
“We need to get results at home and that’s where our supporters will again play a massive part.”
Newcastle’s first home game will be against Aston Villa, and we beat them 2-0 in our relegation season at home, as we recall.
But Aston Villa are a much better team now of course, and improved greatly last season, and a win in that game would be absolutely massive for the Newcastle club.
“Our fans will be looking to enjoy the season.” “It’s not something to be anxious about, it’s something to look forward to.”“I’m sure that they all will be.”
In our first 6 home games we play against Aston Villa, Blackpool, Stoke City, Wigan Athletic, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers – not too bad a start at all.
We should be able to beat most of those sides quite honestly, and certainly will look to get 3 points against Blackpool, Wigan, Blackburn and of course Sunderland.
But how we do in those first 6 games at home will be so important to the club’s success next season, and to the Newcastle players’ overall confidence.
