Magpies Close To Completing Loan Signing Of Tom Cleverley

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is ready to sign Manchester United’s young star,  Tom Cleverley,  on a season-long loan today.

Tom Cleverley – Newcastle close to loan signing?

News in the Daily Mirror today that Newcastle United are getting close to getting the Manchester United winger on a season-long loan deal.

It turns out the 20 year-old midfielder has just signed a new contract at Old Trafford, but it seems that Alex Ferguson is willing to send his youngster out on loan for the season and Newcastle appear to be in the lead to get Tom.

There’s little doubt that Chris Hughton has Cleverley within his sights for a season on Tyneside, and the Newcastle fans would be more than pleased if this talented youngster commits himself to the Tyneside club for a season.

And with things seeming to pick up in the transfer market it would be just terrific if Chris Hughton can get this youngster to Newcastle within the week, so he can have a full pre-season on Tyneside.

Tom would be available for the Dublin trip, where team spirit will again be created – or should we say strengthened even further within the Newcastle squad.

Comments welcome.

This is a fantastic young player and the kind of lad we really need to inject some spirit in to the club. Hopefully he can knock 1 in against them on the season opener at Old Trafford 🙂 You never know with us taking these young prospects they might come back one day?

Im not to sure about this one. Talented player but surely if we are going to be giving playing time to young players it should be the likes of Guthrie, not nurturing Man Utd players. In the chmapionship maybe but the prem im not to sure.

However as i always say, I trust Chris Hughton, he always looks to be buying players to make a good balanced spirited team and whatever he does i’m sure there is some plan behind it.

And Robin_S – he wouldnt be able to play against utd if hes on loan.

Don’t think Fergie would be daft enough to let his own players play against them, will be in the contract/agreement he’ll miss the first game against Man U.

Other than that he may be good for a season’s long loan, more stability than 3 months etc. and seems like a good player, considering Man U obviously want to keep him long term.

Well if it’s true there’s space for 1 more loanee.

Could turn out to be an interesting transfer window afterall, fingers crossed we get the lad from Everton 🙂

He wont be taking Guthries spot. He’s more defensive. I would see him join as a cover for Alan Smith as a defensive midfielder.

Please be false. PLEASE b FALSE. UNTURE. We need this guy really badly. He is born in Newcastle and surely is one of our top players. People on this site dont rate him high anymore because he had a disastress injury season. But, look what he did in premier League. Still young and 24. We need him badly.

Baro – that source looked shit. “Stephen Taylor”. Haha

And a permanent move for Cleverly wont happen. He has just signed a four year contract with Manure.

Newutd….Signing a 4 year contract means nothing when it comes to loaning players.
Real Madrid did the same with Garay and will do the same with Canales.

If Cleverley has signed for Man U for 4 years then it proves if we have him on loan we are a nursery team for other Premiership teams. Not the way to go no matter how good he is supposed to be.

Really not that bothered if Taylor moves on and takes that smirking, goofy grin with him. He’s not best liked apparently and think’s he’s an awful lot beter than he really is. Positionally poor in the middle, but more effective as an attacking right back. Still I think 6M for someone who has never really improved is not bad business. Being a geordie shouldn’t even come in to it.

Cleverly was out of contract this summer & would have been available for free if man u hadn’t given him a new 3 year contract, it doesn’t mean he has along term future with them & with the players man u already have its going to be very hard for him to get a regular game there. Its possible that the likes of cleverly & weis will have to move to get regular football & if they have been with us on loan it should give us an a better chance of buying them.

A good point worth considering noir9. After all Simpson opted for us did he not? So we may be able to keep Cleverly and Weiss (if we get him on loan initially). We need to keep Taylor and ignore the opinions from the Express.

Didn’t Ferguson say he wouldnt decide on who was going out on loan until August?

If we could bring in Naughton, Weiss and Cleverly on loan, plus a few others on permenant deals, I would be delighted with that 😀

More good work by CH if he can get Cleverly through the door, that will be 2 good young signings in a matter of days which is a good sign.

CH is showing good sense, he highlighted where he needed players and he is signing players for those positions, not like other managers we have had who say we need a player here and there but go buy one for somewhere else.

As for Taylor, we know the drill by now after Given, Milner, Jenas etc… If they want to go, let them, there is no point keeping someone who does not want to be here, besides, we could do with the cash!

    Tom,

In the Premier League I’m pretty sure there is a limit of 2 loanees per team!

But of course I am probably wrong!

why are people saying he will compete with guthrie and smith etc, he plays on the left wing, or can play in a more central role. I think he would be a good signing on loan, maybe jonas right move to the right side

As I understood it, it was 4 long term loans per season, and only 1 incoming per team, but as he was rumoured to be targeting Wellbeck and Cleverly from Manchester United, I might be wrong.

I think it would be wrong to move Jonas to the right. He played there for a while when we first signed him, but he has said himself he is better on the left, thats where he played for Mallorca before we brought him in. I think Cleverly can play across the midfield, but his better position is probably centrally, so he is providing competition for Nolan/Guthrie/Barton for the creative spot.

We desperately need to bring in a defensive minded midfielder. Smith is too slow and too positionally naive to play that role in the PL.

SSN rumours we are looking at James McFadden from Birmingham, he has yet to agree a contract extension and only has a year left to run on his current deal so may be available on the cheap.

james mc fadden is a decent player, dont really see where he would fit into our side, plays advanced on the left normally or as a striker, but doesnt score enough to play up front anymore

No thanks to Cleverley. For the simple reason that he is a Manc thru and thru.

Tom, I’ll say it again (and even on this thread if you read bacK)

4 loans allowed per season but only 2 on the books at a time. That is because sometimes you can have a loan signing for 3 months like we did last season.

    What’s the point of cleverley?..
Train up a player for the enemy…No thanx!..
& he’d just slow our own youngsters development down…

…& Taylor wasn’t born in Newcastle btw!..

MacToon, you can have 4 loans at any one time and no more than 8 in a season. This would be a great deal, he’s a good player with bags of talent and who cares if he doesn’t belong to us, he could help us survive the season and even though he has signed a new deal at utd I still don’t think he will feature there long term.
