Magpies Sign Perch – First Summer Signing – More To Come

Newcastle United announced today they have completed the signing of James Perch from Nottingham Forest on a four-year deal at the Tyneside club.

James Perch – first summer signing

The 24-year-old made a total of 216 appearances for Forest, and scored 14 goals, after making his debut as an 18-year-old in August of 2004.

As we have pointed out this morning Perch can play in a multiple of different positions , basically anywhere across the back four and anywhere across the midfield.

How’s that for flexibility?

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton was no doubt delighted to sign a relatively young Perch, a player who interested Newcastle in January and who played under Colin Calderwood when Colin was manager at Nottingham Forest.

Chris said today:

“James is a player I’ve admired for some time and it’s great we’ve been able to secure his services. ‘

“I’m certain he’ll prove to be a great addition to our squad.”

It’s good that Perch has been signed so early, as he will now be part of the full pre-season training program, and will be on the trip to Dublin, Ireland, coming up shortly.

Time for James to settle in and get to know his new team-mates.

With a name like Perch of course watch for all the subtle headlines now and in the future like Perch Reels in Manchester United (we hope), He’s A Good Catch – and so on – you get what we mean.

Comments welcome.

Welcome aboard James. Here’s hoping you make a name for yourselves on the Toon for all the right reasons.

Disappointing the negative comments regarding Perch.

Have to say i’m impressed with CH signing, i really liked the look of him last season and during the 2-0 defeat of Forest he was, the goal aside outstanding marking Jonas out of the game.

The versitility is also a big bonus and will fill the Butt vacancy or the RB slot which for me needed to be looked at, Injury or not to Simpson.

    Role on the next signing

“24 year-old Perch was in the final year of his Forest contract and began his career as a youngster at Norwich City, before switching to Forest’s Academy. Interviewed by the Forest website, he confirmed that he saw his long-term position as central defence.”

    Central defence???

Good work by CH I say. A welcome addition to our squad.

I see there is a report that says Gosling is too risky a signing for us, so I cant see him coming in, shame like.

I’m happy about this signing, he looked really good against us. His versatility should come in handy as well.

Is this the type / quality of player that CH said yesterday that we would be surprised at? I had assumed the surprise would be the fact that they were top players not some championship bench warmer – oh who happend to have a decent game against us !!

THis lad ain’t too bad, why is everyone condemning him before he has kicked a ball for us. How many players come from lower divisions and do well. Hope he does the job. Versatile, always a bonus. Any fee in particular floating around?

Hopefully James Perch can be a bargain buy. He looks like a terrific player when we played him. But now he has to show his self in the Premierleague. Hopefully its successful

“why is everyone condemning him before he has kicked a ball for us.”

Because his past supporters did/do, and because he was backup in the Championship. I have hopes tho..

I think that he should be a good signing he has glimpses of great quallity in the championship so hopefully he will reach his potential at newcastle not really sure that he will be able to get the right back spot unless injuries or suspensions happen though
