Newcastle United To Sign James Perch

Newcastle United have just listed an announcement on their web-site that terms have been agreed and they are about to sign James Perch from Nottingham Forest.

James Perch – Nottingham Forest midfielder

This is the Newcastle statement:

Newcastle United can confirm that the Club has agreed terms with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of defender James Perch, subject to the player passing his medical.

Further details will be announced and posted on nufc.co.uk in due course.

James is a 24 year-old 5’11” midfielder and can play in many positions both in defense and across midfield. He has usually played defensive midfield although he started his career as a striker when he joined Forest in 2003.

He can play at right back, and in central defense and can also play on either wing – so he is indeed very versatile and could be well used a lot by Chris Hughton. He is listed as a defender/midfielder and turns 25 in late September.

Perch may even challenge for the starting right back position next month, although he could also be a defensive midfield replacedment for Nicky Butt – take your choice.

Perch drew Newcastle interest in January, and the lad was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and joined Forest in 2004, and has played over 200 times times for the Nottingham club with 29 goals., and will be Newcastle first signing of the summer.

Perch is the second longest serving player at Forest behind Wes Morgan and has been captain of the Nottingham Forest side, so  it looks like Chris has signed another player with leadership capabilities.

He has made 187 starts for Forest with 31 sub appearance (218 total appearances) and has scored 14 goals.

Comments welcome.

Here’s to all those who doubted craigcoozy’s source, clearly he is a good one!

Have you found out who the other player is yet Craig?

hmm, suppose he’s a good acquisition due to his versatility, but i seem to remember him lookin less than impressive when we played them at SJP.

Wouldn’t have been my first pick of Forest’s players, thats for sure.

I seem to remember he played right back for most of the night and Jonas in his pocket too. Plus if he can play in multiple positions across the back and in mid he looks like a perfect buy for us.

Oh and that just goes to prove money is available @ SJP. Just for the right players at the right amounts.

I’m still so encouraged about how the club is being run at the moment. Everything seems to be done under the radar and with sense

I will try to keep open-minded on this guy, but the forest fans just keeps me a bit negative…

    Some of the things said:

    (regarding the sale)
    “O well!

Quite ironic the only good game he had last year was against them”

“Ironic and benefitial to us too, if the £1million fee which is being banded about is correct, he doubled his value in that one game…”

“Good luck to him. Quite surprising that he’s off to a Premiership club however as I doubt he’d have featured much in our side this coming season.”

“I never thought this would come to anything! Mad.

Anyway, most people wanted shut of him. Its a shame in that he gave us cover, but he wasn’t any good for more than that. Hopefully he won’t go on to make me eat those words by kicking arse for Newcastle.”

“funny how I saw Perchy and Cohen do a bit of jogging this evening”
“Pity Cohen didn’t trip him up and break his legoh wishful thinking!!”

    Hmmm…

I think he may be a good player for us, he knows colin calderwood and obviously seems impressed to join us.

IN other news that you may be interested in is that Everton’s Jon Ruddy (a goalkeeper) has signed for Norwcih City. Maybe this means that a deal for Fraser Forster was not reached. Personally i think Hughton may be willing to give him a chance in some of our friendlies.

It seems that CH is going for a combination of age under 26, versatility and potential. I remember a few on here were recommending Perch as a useful acquisition.

Read the Notts Forest Fan site folks.

I find fan sites to be a good source of information on players coming in….

Alot of the comments relate to them being quite happy to see the back of him for 1m quid!!

Concerning….. but I will hold my judgement on the lad! If thats alright with you boater..

yeah, but fans will always been down on a player that leaves, just the nature of footy supporters.

he’ll be a handy squad player, but can’t see him pushing anyone out of the starting XI unless he has a storming preseason

Well, they didn’t like him or rate him before this agreement either. This is not a good buy for me…

    I have hopes though..

    Insaneman the insane fan …
“fan sites to be a good source of information on players” you have got to be joking. Fan sites produce enough bull in a day to manure the entire British Isles – waist deep, maybe all the servers are in Elbonia??

Howay man: would love it if we got Gosling but I understand that the premier league have to make a ruling on it to decide if he becomes a free agent. If he did then that would be immense, I love the style he plays and he can play anywhere aswell

have to agree with Bao like.

comments on fan sites and blogs are 99% populated by moaning buggers, just like the rest of the net.

happy people are less inclined to speak out than miserable farts 😉

It’s ok to be realistic, Chris F. NO forest fan was negative to a sale of Perch. Almost everyone was GLAD. The fact is he was mediocre/shite/benched/injured. I don’t like it (as he is a Newcastle player now), but that really just is the way it is.

i’m not expecting him to be a world beater, but will he be able to do a job for us next season? probably.

as i’ve already said, he’s got versatility and will be a handy squad player as cover for numerous positions – a bit of an aaron hughes or phil neville type. ie he’s never going to be your star player, but every side needs someone like him in the squad.

plus, i know a couple of forest fans and theyve been moaning and negative ever since they threw away their promotion bid and got left behind by us and wba, so them being down on Perch isn’t a shocker 😉

well prech kept jonas quiet when we played them, and man utd couldnt handle him first game of the last season we were in the prem, so he cant be that bad, best position is right back, but good as a holding mid aswell

i think expectation is still a problem.

i see this season and maybe next season too as a bit like when SBR first took over.

people forget that he had to wheel and deal a bit in that first season, and brought in players on a budget who, while not world beaters, did a job for us and steadied the ship.

Kevin Gallacher, Clarence Acuna, etc. Yes he made some questionable signings, but at the same time he brought in the best he could get on his budget, and moulded them into a team that gave us a good base to build on.

That’s what Hughton’s having to do this season imo. We’re not gonna be signing Maicon, or Schweinsteiger or Sniejder, but I’m confident that Hughton has enough nous about him to bring in players who will benefit the club moving forward.

Might be a little late like but?? posibility maybe craigcoozy??

    Makukula
It seems that Benfica are willing to offload the former Sevilla man after acquiring his services for 3.5m euros a year ago while on loan at Maritimo. Since then, the Congolese-born Makukula has only made 8 appearances, and he has not set foot on the pitch in any official matches this season.

Although the Baggies are current front-runners to land the big striker, fellow Premiership teams Newcastle and Blackburn are also thought to be chasing the Portugal international.
