James McFadden – Another Who Could Arrive Soon At Newcastle

It seems the transfer market has picked up rather dramatically this week.

James McFadden – unsettled at Birmingham

And there is continuing news in the press that Scottish forward James McFadden, of Birmingham City,  may move this summer, and he’s being linked with both Celtic and Newcastle United.

The 27-year-old has played in the top Premier League for seven years, with Everton and Birmingham, after moving to the Merseyside club in 2003 from Motherwell.

The Scottish International is a popular player at St Andrew’s, since penning a three year deal two years ago, and his value is debatable, but with just one year left on his contract,  around £3M seems a reasonable amount.

Neil Lennon, newly installed as manager at Glasgow Celtic,  is trying to boost his squad to challenge for the Scottish Premier League, and is keen to add the Scot to his squad.

We think Chris Hughton will have the money to spend if he fancies James, and of course he is very experienced in the Premier League and could be a decent buy.

But it looks like James McFadden is another possibility of a player to arrive on Tyneside this summer, and there are quite a few more players the club have been linked with – just this week.

What do you think of James McFadden?

Comments welcome.

I think Joe Ledley and Dan Gosling would be better options along with a left back and a striker.

james mcfadden would add much needed creativity and a bit of guile to boot in our midfield/attack, i think 3 – 5 million is acceptable for him

I cant see this one happening. £3m has been quoted and to be honest I think for £3m you could do better.

McFadden is a skillful player. Although he is not a prolific goalscorer he has flair and creativity and is a good “second striker”. I think he would improve our squad but of course this in the end comes down to how much he would cost us. I think he would be worth it for 3 Million, 4 million max. Above that I think we would be better of looking at other possibilities

Will probably end up signing a new deal with Brum. This speculation is similar to S.Taylor to L’pool, probably just his agent saying other clubs are interested so he can get a better deal.

Have you not seen Mcfadden play? He’s a very good player and would add class to our team…

howay man – not sure where you get your info from but Larsson isn’t out of contract and Mcfadden is a more advanced player anyway. He would be a useful addition especially at £3m, wouldn’t pay much more though.

We are seriously lacking this type of player most PL teams have strong bk 4s lumping the ball up is no longer and option a few more like him and wed be better placed at the end of the season.

Take this with a pinch of salt as it was on football-rumours but KP Boateng in talks with us?I would like this to be true, he looked good last season and also in WC. Would cost £6/7m i’d have thought though. Where’s craigcoozy when you need him? Any updates?

I hope Newcastle does not get this guy. We need a all the time goalscorer that is much younger than this guy. Under 25 would be brilliant.
