Newcastle Close To Getting Yannick Djalo

News today from Yannick Djalo’s agent that both Tottenham and Newcastle have made offers over €5M (£4.2) for the Sporting Club striker.

Yannick Djalo – 24 year-old Sporting Club forward

The 24-year-old forward has been linked with a move away from Sporting Club, since the Portuguese club needs to reduce their debts this summer, and will sell some of their players to reduce that debt.

Djalo is a product of Sporting’s Youth Academy, and has been at the Lisbon club since 2007, when he moved from Estação.

Lionel da Silva is Djalo’s agent, and has said there is plenty of interest from Premiership clubs in his client, and thinks Sporting will do a deal for about €2M (£1.7M) more than Newcastle have already offered.

Lionel told the Record today:

“Sporting will let him leave for a fee in the region of €7-8M.” “The offers we have in our hands, from Tottenham and Newcastle, are over the €5M mark.”

“Therefore, given the difference at stake, I believe this matter will be solved quickly. We have been much more distant before.”

Of course take that statement with a pinch of salt,  because Lionel da Silva gets paid when the deal is done, and it’s his job to somehow get these deals moved closer to completion.

We don’t know if Newcastle will bid any higher  for the Portuguese forward, since they seem to have other irons in the fire.

Comments welcome.

Should try and get a bit closer to the valuation, maybe offer Xisco as bait, which will add 2m to the cash. Djalo would be perfect.

If SPURS want him, they will get him, if we think we can get a player of this calibre for under £5m, well it’s quite simply pathetic………..

Come on Chris Hughton up bid at least 2 more million and we got this wonderful talent in our hands. He is awesome. Has electric speed and can provides strikers with perfect passes and can score. I hope we get him. And get rid of Best and Xisco. Would be awesome. This transfer better not go the same way Victor Moses got out of our hands

    Agree about the agent scepticism.

Also, wouldn’t those sort of revelations break the confidentiality clauses set out in Ashley’s statement of intent?

@ toonsy – what MA says, and what MA does are 2 very different things, as we have seen a few times before.

I hope CH will get the 2m or so to buy him, he is Premier quality, and would add to the club nicely. Spurs will have other targets I think, so Yannick may not be their no1 choice. Although, I fear if they meet the demands of Sporting, he is more likely to go there. But, Spurs have Defoe, Pav, Crouch, Keane, dos Santos on the books, so they may not be even in the market for a forward.

Plus they are on the verge to sign Craig Bellamy for 6 million Euros. So is Yannick ours or is there another 6 million for Yannick.

If this is true and if Spurs do get him I think we should try and get one of their players on loan.

I think dos Santos would be perfect for us

    Spurs really piss me off.

Just sign every single player we are after I swear. They won’t even play this guy, he’s hardly likely to get in ahead of Defoe or Crouch is he?

Him and Carroll up front would be ace, but im treating this move with a lot of pessimism at the moment – I can’t see it happening.

if djalo choses spurs than hes goin for the wrong reasons.
    OBA is right
djalo will not get ahead of crouch defoe, keane, pavleuchenko, and it rumoured bellamy or forlan could also be on there way so hell be 5th choice

whereas with us he’d give lovenkrands a good run for his money so he could be 1st choice with us.
we will see what this player is about in the near future,
    money-spurs

Djalo didn’t play that many games last season on the right wing. Played more from the left in fact. His primarily a striker but struggled to get in there ahead of Postiga and Liedson.

25 roll my eyes -have you just come back to the Newcastle area after 3 years away? We are not close as we do not follow bids like FS! We do not spend money! We are in season ticket buying territory! We cannot compete with Tottenham! It is the usual agent price bump, we are probably not interested! Good player yeah, but we need a goalscorer- enough said roll eyes-yawn.

mmm so we have £5-6- maybe 7 mill to spend?

Wonder how much we really do have to spend or maybe some players out? I heard (or maybe it was a dream) that Smith was wanted north of the border.

He’s played 74 games in 4 years? Doesn’t seem much and his goals per game roughly 1 in 4, not bad.

Hoy MAN look at the headline – Newcastle close to getting Yannik Djalo! Are they??? NO!
Where does it say in the article that we are close? Answer nowhere- the agent says -Therefore, given the difference at stake, I believe this matter will be solved quickly. We have been much more distant before.”
Talking about us and Spurs, he is an agent he lies. So on that basis you believe the agent- by the way Elvis is dead and Santa does not exist–sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you seem to have been off the planet for quite some time!
Feel free to ridicule me when he signs- like never!

i agree…….since when were we close to signing him……..i expect hughton to come out 2moro and say we arent even interested, just like mansare 🙁

If weve got that bit money to spend then yed get this guy as he sound the sort we need…….then again i’d rather get a proven prem striker…..

    I’d look at

    3m – Ohara
    1.5m – Earnshaw
    Loan – Wilshere
    2m – Jon Mensah
    1.5m – C.Eagles
    Loan – Gio Dos santos
    1.5m – piquonne
    1m – Beattie
    3m – tuncay
    1.5m – shorey

Not sure whether the club should be paying above €5M after the Xisco fiasco.
