Newcastle Pursue 24 Year-Old Forest Center Half

News today that Newcastle United are interested in Nottingham Forest center-back Kelvin Wilson, who can also play at full-back.

Kelvin Wilson – 6’2″ Forest center-half

The Scottish Sun is reporting that Newcastle are now competing with Celtic for the 24 year-old center-half.

Of course Kelvin has already seen his former team-mate James Perch move to Tyneside this past week, and news today that Newcastle quadrupled James’ wages he was getting at Forest.

Forest have already offered Wilson a big new deal to stay at Forest and to help fend off interest from Newcastle, but the Magpies are still interested, and if Kelvin is unsettled at Forest he could well move to Newcastle.

Wilson missed the first month of last season through injury, but since his return in late September, he performed very well in the Forest defense, as they went so close to a promotion place.

Kelvin has played previously for Notts County and Preston, and joined his home town club Nottingham Forest in 2007, for £300K from Preston, and a that time singed a 4 year deal, so it still has one year to run.

Wilson has played over 120 times for Forest, and over 250 total senior appearances so far in his career.

No! I have heard that Scharner could be coming on a free transfer after leaving Wigan.

He looks a decent player, might be a good signing for us. Nice to see CH is looking for solid, hard working players and not just big names.

I’ve just heard that we’re in talks with Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge about a possible loan move.

With only one year left on his contract he could be good back up; i.e. replacement for Fitz Hall

We need to quickly tie down Steven Taylor for the next 3 to 4 years or let him go and maybe replace him with Boro’s Wheater
