Newcastle Quadrupled James Perch’s Wages

News today from Nottingham Forest that Newcastle’s offer for James Perch quadrupled Perch’s wages.

Billy Davies – “I didn’t know I tell you”

There was some buzz yesterday that the Forest manager was not made aware of James Perch’s transfer to Newcastle recently,  until the deal was completed.

And there is news today from Forest manager Billy Davies, that he is in fact happy at Nottingham Forest, and will certainly see out the two years left on his contract.

The Nottingham Forest Board are coming out and trying to quiet the controversy, and Forest Chief Executive Mark Arthur says that Davies was made aware of the club’s decision to accept Newcastle’s offer for Perch.

Arthur said yesterday:

“The Chairman had informed Billy on three separate occasions that, should we get another offer for James Perch from Newcastle that was acceptable to the business of the club, then we would not stand in his way.”

“Newcastle had also offered to quadruple Perch’s salary and therefore, with our reluctance to offer him a new contract, it would have been wrong to stand in his way.”

“When an offer came through that was acceptable to the board I phoned Billy to tell him of the offer and his response was that is the board’s decision,  and so be it’.”

There will be different reactions from the Newcastle fans that Newcastle quadruped James’ salary  to get him on Tyneside, and no wonder he was delighted to come. 😀

Some will say we are paying too much again, but we think the smaller wages Newcastle will now pay its players in the future, has been hugely over-played.

We think the club will offer competitive wages – but not the silly figures we have paid some players in the past – like Michael Owen as just one example, and that’s one reason we expect Andy Carroll, Steven Taylor and Tim Krul to sign new contracts for Newcastle this summer.

Depends what he was on at Forest. If it was 5k, then 20k a week isn’t too bad for us.

If he was on 15k a week at forest, then thats another matter of course! Very unlikely though.

Quadrupling wages seems an extreme package.

He transfer seems to have caused little disquiet amongst Forest fans – most think he’s nothing special.

Billy Davies is a moron though. I live near nottingham, and it was big news here when he signed, that his job was to pick the team. Forest have a team of “transfer experts” and he was made completely aware of that when he signed. He can’t complain now that he’s not happy with it, when he was completely party to it before he signed…and probably used it to get more money on his contract.

A player coming to the prem would probably expect 10-20k wages and at Forest he was probably on 3-5k as he was in league one before, so its not unlikely.

If we quadrupled Scharners wages, thats a cause for concern but he will still be on pittance compared to some.
