Newcastle Reported After Dinamo Bucharest Romanian Striker

News tonight that both Ipswich Town and Newcastle United have made enquiries about Dinamo Bucharest striker Andrei Cristea, according to reports in the Romanian press.

Andrei Cristea – Newcastle interested in Romanian striker

The 26-year-old Romanian International (8 caps), has scored 56 goals in 172 total senior appearances, so far in his career and stands around 5’11” tall.

Dinamo value the player at £1.7M, and reports in Romania suggest that Newcastle are ready to bid around £1.25M for the Bacau, Romanian born striker.

Ipswich Town are also interested in the player but the Romanian club would prefer to deal with a Premier League club with their bigger financial resources – right!

Cristea started his career with hometown club FCM Bacau, joining Steaua Bucharest for $1M in 2004, and in 2006 joined FC Timisoara, although there was  interest from French club Sochaux.

The player then had a loan spell at Politehnica Iasi in the second half of the 2007-2008 season, and Cristea’s goals helped rescue the club from relegation from the top flight.

In May of 2008 Cristea signed a five-year deal with his current club, Dinamo Bucharest, but then moved back to Politehnica Iasi for a second loan spell in January of last year, returning to Dinamo last summer.

Cristea was the top scorer in the Romanian league during last season with 16 goals, and scored another 4 goals in other competitions, for a total of 20 goals last season.

We don’t really know enough about this player first hand, to know if he would be a decent signing for Newcastle – but what do you think?

Comments welcome.

20 goals last season, not bad. least we know which corner he likes to put his penalties in.

Forget this guy .. I agree with you NewUtd Hughton needs to buy Yannick Djaló. He is just the type of creative player we need. Very fast and skillful like CR9. It is repotedly that we offered around 5 million and they want 6-7 million.

Not too bad, but Djalo is a lot better. Quick player, scored 27 in 50 games over 2 years, 70 in 230 games. Not too bad, a lot of his apps were from the bench until 2 year ago.

I dont think we need another player of this calibre. We need a speeding player, with creativity, someone who can play alongside Carroll, and not someone with similar attributes to Carroll.

Have any of you seen him apart from those clips and your calling him average :S strange! is that because you haven’t heard of him!

He scored alot of goals, i believe around 16 last season and can score with his head or feet, and to “Xfer” he is similar to Carrol but if your team plays to provide crosses etc… for a tall man like him if we have 2 of them then we have more chances of getting goals, if we are going to play Big and Little man we would have to change our play to incorporate a player into the team.

He may be cheap and can become a player we need (Other than English) we need to find cheap buys and if they become big sell him for a big profit.

    20 in 38 is average?

Better than one in two is average?

If he is so good then why did Dinamo Bucharest loan him back to Politehnica Iasi twice after signing him?

It’s not exactly a great division is it? Look how many Boyd scored in Scotland? Numbers mean nothing. I spoke to a geeky mate who spends his time watching foreign football, and he reckons this guy is too lightweight for our game, and has far too many limitations? I have no idea how accurate that term is though, as I honestly can’t remember ever seeing this guy kick a ball in anger.

If our professional scouting staff and Hughton think he would be a good signing, i will trust them, certainly more than a few people on here who never seen him play saying hes not good enough.

Most likely just another rumour though.

Ha, finally, i Dinamo player around, cause i support Dinamo.
Well, as for the player, he’s a decent striker, he’s only been loaned away because of stupid agents and such or coaches didn’t know how to play him.
He played really well last season, he’s a different type of player to what we have, has some great executions and some are unpredictable. Besides, he’s quick, and is way better than Djalo.

I rate him. Definitely for the price quoted. Seen him a few times but he played on the wing and was good.

He also takes penalties btw. So the ratio when everything is reckoned with, isn’t very good.

Oh don’t you just love armchair critics eh.. lol

Before you all shot me down, I’m playing Devils advocate here ok 🙂

You say this Andrei Cristea is average, you also say Kris Boyd isn’t good enough for us or the PL but you priase Carroll who’s not done anything apart from score in the English 2 tier league…

So from my reackoning, Carrolls acheivements are in line with what Andrei Cristea & Kris Boyd have done but those 2 have been doing it for more than 1 season, so what makes you all think that Carroll can cut it in the PL???

And what if he doesn’t, what then????

Solaidback@ 19. Valid points all. I also have my ‘well documented’ doubts about Carroll, who to me looked like a player playing at his level in the CCC. I hope he proves me wrong, I know he had a couple of goals in the prem under Joke in Here, but that means nothing to me, he has it all to prove still.
