Spain are the rightful World Champions, and it’s not too often that a country is both the reigning European Champions And World Champions at the same time.
Jose Enrique – can he get Spanish cap?
Of course France did that in 2000, when they won the European Championships having already been crowned as World Champions by beating Brazil in the 1998 final in France.
Chris Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:
“Seeing Spain win the World Cup is certainly something that any player in that country would want to aspire to.” “Jose had a very good season with us last season.”
“And he’ll be looking for more of the same.” “That’s the same with all of our players.” “But for Jose, he knows that Spain are the best team in the world.”
“He will look at the players in his position and will want to get to that level. I think that’s a normal thing for any top player.”
“The current set of Spanish players have certainly set the bar after winning the World Cup and, of course, the European Championships before that.”
“They’ve dominated in the last few years.” “But it’s certainly an exciting challenge because there are plenty of very good players who didn’t go to the World Cup.”
The man at left back for Spain during the World Cup was Villareal’s Joan Capdevila, and he was OK for the Spaniards, but nothing spectacular.
Joan has 52 caps for Spain with 4 goals, and cannot have too long left in Spain’s colors, given his age, so it will be an excellent opportunity for Jose to push for a starting place next season.
A good season back in the Premier League for Jose will be a good start, because there will be ample publicity back in Spain, if he does well for Newcastle next season, and especially if Newcastle surprise a lot of people by doing better than expected.
That’s what we are hoping of course, but we all know that Jose is one of the best players at Newcastle right now, and was monumental for the club last season.

Comment #88Stokes isn’t good enough and Bamba is injury-prone and plays centerback. Let’s hope there’s nothing in it.

Comment #93We have bid 5 mill for Annan, he would be unbeleivable, him and gosling would be perfect signings as far as I’m concerned. He’s some player.

Comment #95Football Journalist:
Your rumours are continue to fly in. Tom-Roger Storvik says reports in Norway are suggesting Newcastle United have bid in the range of £5 million for Ghana International Anthony Annan currently at Rosenborg BK.

Comment #96Newcastle United bid for Anthony Annan. Hopefully it goes through. 5 million is nothing for him in my opinion. This guy has brilliant defending. His only weakness is his size. He is very small for headers. He plays in just in front of the back 4 as a defensive midfielder just like Alan Smith. Still young.

Comment #100baro, having used my brilliant translation skills (or free translation.com in other words) I can tell you that they think he’s quality and Chelsea, Man U, Real Madrid etc are all after him, but that he wants to come here.
Also it appears that there’s WUMs on Norwegian football forums too 😆

Comment #102If we get Annan then i cant see Smith getting a game. Barton is top class (when fit!!!!!) and Guthrie looks better and better every month and Nolan is becoming our talisman, the way he was when he was at his best at bolton all those years ago.

Would really like us to go for it with a 442 though. Hate defensive tactics but I guess it could push Jonas and our right winger (probably Routledge) high up the pitch to support Carroll.
Where that leaves all our other strikers though, I don’t know.

Comment #104And baro, Annan has one of the best jumps I have ever seen. There was a picture during the World Cup of him jumping above Zigic.

Comment #105The Annan rumor is bullshit. First of all, Hughton said today/yesterday that we were to sign one or two players. A classy striker, and a backup for Enrique. Second of all, this so called rumor is from a random Norwegian dude who posted this on the rumor site on skysports.com, and then a journalist jumped at it and made a deal out of it. There is no rumor like that in Norwegian media.
And on Annan. He is a really good player, BUT. He has a “difficult” personality and he tends to turn to unsporting behavior on the pitch (biting(!), hitting etc.) He would totally ruin the team harmony. A big no, unfortunately, couse he is one of the best out there in his position.
Baro @ 95-
Yes, we are commenting on him:) Says the same as here though, roughly, only in Norwegian.
