A surpise report in the Newcastle Journal that reports Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is looking at a deal to bring Chelsea’s 19 year-old Patrick Van Aanholt back to Tyneside, but on a permanent deal this time.
Patrick van Aanholt – Newcastle want him permanently
Van Aanholt was on loan last season to fill in for the injured Jose Enrique, and in short the Dutch U21 International performed just great, and became a big favorite with the Newcastle fans. He seems an excellent player in the making.
We don’t think Patrick will just provide cover for Spanish U21 International Jose Enrique, if indeed he is signed, because the lad is too good, and he could also play on the left wing of course.
It’s not absolutely clear if Chris is talking about binging the lad permanently to Newcastle, but we would expect the loan signings to be in central midfield and up front, rather than at left back.
When Patrick returned to Chelsea in February, he seemed to have immensely enjoyed the experience on Tyneside, and said he would be glad to return, if the chance ever arose to come back to Newcastle.
That chance may come earlier than he ever thought.
When Patrick returned to London, he did get two short sub appearances in the Chelsea first team, but with rumours that Ashley Cole may be on his way to Real Madrid to link up again with Jose Mourinho, it could be that Chelsea will want to keep the lad at Stamford Bridge.
We have no idea if this story has any truth in it, but it’s certainly interesting, very interesting, and Patrick is just the type of top class young player the club should be signing.
Patrick will turn 20 later this month – and we have to hope the story is true.
He has played 4 times for the Dutch U21 side, and just two appearances for the full Chelsea side, and of course is good friends with Tim Krul.
What do you think of this story?

Comment #1Van Aanholt would be great, but I really can’t see Chelsea letting him go for an ok sum, if at all.
“Hughton’s priority is finding a striker of international pedigree but is also looking for defensive cover. United have operated without back-up for Jose Enrique for the past couple of seasons and may turn to former loanee Patrick van Aanholt if Chelsea are willing to let him leave.
“We’re still looking for one or two quality additions to the existing squad and I’m quite sure that we will have them in before the start of the season,” Hughton (pictured below) said.
Wonder if Hughton really said anything about Van Aanholt, cause there is nothing about him in Hughtons quotations.

Comment #2I thought the report said as a possible loan again, nothing about being permanent.
With Cole going to madrid, it’s highly unlikely to happen. I think we just stress ourselves out with rumours like this.

Comment #4Would be an excellent signing but don’t see it happening on a permanent basis, as Chelsea need him…..
A loan signing is a possibility provided the boy can cover on the left wing as well as left back.

Comment #5Great news if true. Not likely though. Just like the Welbeck and Cleverley sagas. Pot boilers for neurotic fans stirred up by an uninformed press that is all. I am more interested in looking forward to who CH is REALLY going to sign.

Comment #7Would be great to get the lad back, but can’t see chelski letting him go. Although if he stays with them the best he can probably hope for is a couple of run-outs as a sub, even if cole leaves chelski with buy another left-back.
Oh dear, craig gordon has broken his arm & will be out for 3 months.

Comment #8I agree with you there Ericles, however, I would be delighted if this one came off. After all, the lad didn’t look too shabby in a toon top last season did he?

I heard he has agreed to join us as we were the only club to agree to sign him if there was a fee involved.
would be delighted if he did sign. and if this story about van aanholt is true aswell id say this is looking like a very good summer !! these are the players that have the ability to keep us in the premier league. gosling has proved time and time again for everton that he is already prem standard and van aanholt is looking brilliant already and hes not even 20 yet!!

Comment #15Why do people keep meanitoning Djalo?
Hughton actually said he isnt interested in him, along with the romanian striker. Not even close apparently!

Comment #16Chelsea may let him go, but not on the cheap. Ask any Dutch person who the countries best talents are, and his name pops up every time. I reckon at least 4m.
