Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton, who seems to have pulled off a tremendous coup to get 20 year Dan Gosling for nothing, has admitted he’s still anxious to add to his squad this summer.
Chris Hughton – keen to add to his squad
With the World Cup having just finished, and things just starting to get going in the transfer market, Chris admits the transfer market has been very slow so far this summer.
Chris said:
“We know it’s a difficult time at the moment, everybody is assessing what they have got and what they can move on and what they need to bring in,”
“My responsibility here at this club is to bring in what we need to supplement what we already have. We were delighted with the squad we had last season and it’s about making additions to that, as opposed to some leaving.”
It was interesting that potential Newcastle targets Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck both scored for Manchester United yesterday in their 3-0 win against Glasgow Celtic, at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, in front of a very good 40,000 fans.
Also news today in the Sunday papers, that of all clubs – Sunderland – are reported to have tied up Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan deal next season.
But it’s more likely that Tom Cleverley will come to Newcastle, but if he keeps scoring goals in pre-season, he may persuade Red Devils’ manager Alex Ferguson that he is ready for first team action at Old Trafford next season.
We’ll have to wait a few more weeks to see exactly which players Chris can get at Newcastle on loan next season, but from our poll the top two are Jack Wiilshere of Arsenal (70%) and Manchester City and Slovakia winger Vladimir Weiss (45%).
Cleverley is third with 30% of the vote.
The poll is still open and each reader is allowed two choices, and it’s on our home page.

Comment #1The vote is rigged!! There is no ‘none of the above’ or better still ‘no young loan players that block off our academy lads this season, Chris, please thank you very much!’ option.

Comment #5I’d like Cleverly but only if we got him permanently and we wont so lets not waste any time playing him and give every shot we have to Vukic who might well be the real deal and a player we can grow the team around over the next five years

Comment #7Howay Man – why would Barca release on Free someone dubbed the ‘new messi’??? if he had a 10th of the ability of Messi, I think he’d have been signed up long ago….. 🙁
As for us getting any young players in on loan, I’m with Beefy on this one, we don’t need to neuter any other clubs young players when we have players like Vickic, Ranger, Ferguson, Kadar etc coming through our own youth team…. lets give them the chance to shine instead of taking Arsenils & Manc Usa youth!!!!

Rout…………Vuckic………..Gosling……..Weiss
…………………..Carroll……Ranger………………..
Not a bad line up and a very young team although im not a big fan of playing Carroll and Ranger together. I would like us to bring in a young pacey striker. Cleverly and Witltshire are aslo two good loan option. I would only consider playing this line up in cup matches as it lacks experience. Mind you im only hazarding a guess that we will get a few of these lads in on loan lol but that line up would be some force in the next few yeears.

Comment #131978- that’s an exciting team, Id swap weiss fir de guzman, Id also play maybe 5 in midfeild, with Guthrie the holding player and just releasing passes, spraying balls right and left, much like carrick used to.

Comment #17Van Aanholt is who we need not some other midfielder, kid did the job in Enrique`s absence last season and it`s the position that needs a backup.
Would`nt hurt to bring in a backup RB either, as the EPL is unforgiving when weak defences are detected.

Comment #24Assulin is on trial at Blackburn apparently so if he’s any good which I severely doubt due to the respect that Barca have for youth he’ll be signing there…..I don’t know anything about assulin but I just don’t like him….plus if he was any good you’d think he’d have been aleady swept up in espana-land….or Spain as its more commonly known.
Van aanholt would be a quality signing, the guy’s got a really powerful shot and did a solid job for us when enrique was “no bueno” last year.
Lot of talk still about Djalo, what say ye?
I’d love to see geremi come back, that guy was lightnening quick…..worth every penny too :o)

Comment #25I’d go for Alen Vuckic from Olimpija Ljubljana,he’s Haris’s brother.
Still very unknown but according to the media in Slovenia he’s a star in the making. He plays CB,LB,DM.
He can come on a cheap with 300k to be more than enough for him.Alen and Haris in few years would be great for us.

Comment #29Gai Asulin?! You’re havin a laugh.
He is SUCKS! He dubbed the new Messi because of his looks not because of his ability! He couldn’t get in our U-21 national side! And we didn’t qualify to a major tournemant (Euro or World Cup) bar once in 70′.
It’s funny how people hate Wise because of his “youtube scouting”, yet u r doing the same.
And why so many people here think that we aren’t gonna do well this year?!?! We have a squad which is better than 50% of the league and a team spirit which is one of the best.
We don’t need 10 players… just a striker and a CREATIVE midfielder and we are all set.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT, THE FUTURE IS BLACK AND WHITE!
