There is news that Burnley have already agreed a season-long loan deal for Newcastle’s promising young goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
Fraser Forster – off to Burnley?
Wallsend-born Burnley manager Brian Laws said yesterday:
“Everything has been agreed, but there is a hiccup at his parent club that needs to be resolved and we hope that can happen soon,”
But if this move goes through Fraser will have to fight it out with Burnley goalkeeper, 35 year-old Brian Jensen, for the first team jersey.
Brian, who was born in Copenhagen, has been at Burnley since 2003, and has over 250 appearances for the club.
The news is that Brian Laws wants to give Jensen competition for the starting jersey, and of course it’s completely up to Fraser how he does.
But if he has another great season, like he had last year at Norwich, and manages to get first team duty at Burnley, the 22 year-old will be well positioned next season to become the Newcastle number one.
Although he will face a severe fight from both Steve Harper and Dutch U21 goalkeeper Tim Krul – you cannot say the goalkeeping position at Newcastle is not in good hands with those three very good goalies.
