What’s This About Sol Campbell Signing For Newcastle?

Sol Campbell was finally married in Corbridge to Fiona Barratt on Saturday, and now he’s going to be signing for Newcastle United.

Sol and Fiona – the happy couple – good luck!

A lot of Sol’s former Arsenal colleagues were present, including Ashley Cole – he should bring some luck to the marriage shouldn’t he?

What the gossip press would have us all believe is that Sol is ready to sign along the dotted line for Newcastle United, when he returns from his honeymoon.

We understand Sol’s always liked the way he looks in black and white – but that’s only a rumor of course – but apparently picked up at the wedding.

Oh, and we are also said to have beaten Sunderland to his signature – which always spices up any story – let’s face it.

Seems like a manufactured story to us.

And we wonder aloud if there is much truth in this story at all – it’s not like the gossip press have much credibility in these things – and it may just be a regurgitated story – but this time from 12 months ago.

We told you the news was slow this summer.

But we’ll believe it, when and if Newcastle announce the signing – but we think we may be waiting a long, long time for that.

But there again, we’ve been wrong before – just once or twice. 😀

Comments welcome.

Seems like every plan these muppets put in place changes by the week.
Wonder what team game plan they are copying now Arsenal Geriatrics?

I think this one might be true. Hes nearing the end of his career and might be open to playing a bit role and getting work in newcastle. Hes vast amount of experience so if he doesnt ask too much in wages Chris might of snapped him up. Got to remember out of our CB only 2 have been tested in the PL properly.

Marnin Ed! Welcome to Devon. Sorry about the weather – best we could do.

Just daft about these stories – when can we have a ‘three strikes and out’ rule with journos so they get banned if they repeatedly make stuff up?

Nowt against Sol mind; he showed he’s in good shape for an oldie last season and he’s had the good taste to marry a Geordie…

sjt@1, wenger has offerd Sol another contract. So he obviously thinks he can still offer something. The star now reckon he’s going to the mackems which should please you.

Maybe, maybe. The Mackems want him too (they want Tightarse Bramble as well?). He could be a useful addition but why this rush to get CB’s. Are we going to have a line of defenders standing in front of Steve Harper for 90 minutes? We still need some playmaking and winger flair.

The thing is, this story might be a load of rubbish, but it’s not you that’d be “getting it wrong”. You just pass on whatever stories you come across and I for one am grateful.

    Good idea whumpie.
Yes this story was fabricated, by sky originally when they interviewed CH before the carlisle match.
CH did not say the words “i am not signing him” which meant sky said “is sol campbell signing for newcastle?” Then the Sunday express (pffft) said newcastle win the race to sign him! It’s pathetic isn’t it?

By the way Ed – ever thought what an amazing coincidence it is that the founding fathers left here from Plymouth and arrived across the pond in a place of exactly the same name? 😉

Thats pobably just SSN covering themselves to make it look good. Chances are he was always signing for them down the road, and hadn’t even discussed terms with us. It amazes me what they can squeeze a story out of

Hughton been given 10 million by Ashley but is reluctant to spend big money. Already had a bid rejected for Mulumbu last week and has turned attentions to Gylfi Sigurdsson at Reading, £2.7 million. Sol Campbell will sign on £30k per week one year deal, with the option of a coaching role at the end of this, which would suit Sol due to his home in the North East. Gosling to be announced on Friday of this week, also taking close look at Juan Albin, who is available on a free.
Can also confirm Newcastle bid £1.9 million for Gary Hooper over the weekend, but Sc**thorpe hanging in for £2.5mil. Leeds taking close look at Leon Best. Kadar and Ranger to Norwich on loan.

haha yeah sounds good :S wouldnt mind him coming in as a coach cos i his hayday he was an awsome defender might teach our backline something its a good idea to bring in mroe defenders as we have always been left short at the back when we get an injury….dont think there is many budget players that could walk into our first team either there is a couple of free agents that could bring depth but nothing major would like to see us signing a centre forward even though we already have about 10….

Not sure about this signing as Sol will be asking for a hefty weekly salary, and I’m not sure he’ll make the first team on a regular basis at his age…..

Whats wrong with getting a quality CB in on a free if the opportunity arises? nothing!! good signing if it happens and if he goes to the mackems no big deal.
He can definitley do a great job if called upon. the Calderwood connection might make it a bit more plausible?

Haven’t we already had our tuppeny worth on this topic a few days ago? I’m confused…. Problem with blogs is every bit of news is generally old news.

Maybe it’s time for another ‘Chris relishing Prem challenge’ type re-hash to break the summer transfer rumour tedium?
