Newcastle were beaten 2-1 this afternoon by a decent Norwich City side.
Martin scored his second goal with a header in the second-half, and he had already scored a good goal in the 38th minute.
Ameobi’s goal was an excellently taken goal, with a good strike at the start of the second half, but Newcastle’s players were a bit off form today, although we had a number of youngsters getting a try-out this afternoon.
It’s hard to tell how the team is doing in pre-season, but let’s not get carried away on the down side with this result, as Chris Hughton is learning about certain players, and this is only pre-season after all.
Leon Best had another anonymous game, and he was hardly seen, while Nile Ranger was played in right midfield – out of position – and it showed.
Norwich were the better side before the break, and the better side after the break – so they deserved the win.
At half time Chris Hughton brought on 8 players so 19 players in total got a try out today at Carrow Road.
As the game was coming to an end Newcastle pressed for the equalizer and Peter Lovenkrands came closest to scoring about 3 minutes from the end, but it was not to be, and this became Newcastle’s first pre-season defeat.
