Newcastle Go Down 2-1 At Norwich City

Newcastle were beaten 2-1 this afternoon by a decent Norwich City side.

Both Norwich goals were scored by  Chris Martin, and Norwich won this game on merit. Ameobi got Newcastle’s  goal to make the score a respectable 2-1.

Martin scored his second goal with a header in the second-half, and he had already scored a good goal in the 38th minute.

Ameobi’s goal was an excellently taken goal, with a good strike at the start of the second half, but Newcastle’s players were a bit off form today, although we had a number of youngsters getting a try-out this afternoon.

It’s hard to tell how the team is doing in pre-season, but let’s not get carried away on the down side with this  result, as Chris Hughton is learning about certain players, and this is only pre-season after all.

Leon Best had another anonymous game, and he was hardly seen, while Nile Ranger was played in right midfield – out of position – and it showed.

Norwich were the better side before the break, and the better  side after the break – so they deserved the win.

At half time Chris Hughton brought on 8 players  so 19 players in total got a try out today at Carrow Road.

As the game was coming to an end Newcastle pressed for the equalizer and Peter Lovenkrands came closest to scoring about 3 minutes from the end, but it was not to be,  and this became Newcastle’s first pre-season defeat.

Teams:

Norwich: (4-4-2): Ruddy; R Martin, Nelson, Ward (Francomb 63), Drury; Crofts, Hoolahan (McNamee 72), Fox (Gill 78), Surman (Lappin 78); Jackson (Johnson 63), C Martin.

Subs: Steer (gk), Dawkin, Tudur Jones.

Newcastle United: (4-4-2): Krul; R Taylor (Routledge 46), Tavernier, Coloccini (Williamson 46), Enrique (Ferguson 57); Ranger (Xisco 46), Nolan (Guthrie 46), Barton (Smith 46), Vuckic (Edmundsson 72); Carroll (Lovenkrands 46), Best (Ameobi 46).

Subs: Alnwick (gk), Henderson.

Ah well, remember at least sportsdirect profits are up again 😉

In all seriousness though, Im not too fussed, its only pre-season. Over the years alot of good teams have been beat off lower divisions, so I’ll only be concerned if we lose our first five games lol

Harper – Foster injury ? We got a lot of minor injuries in Pre-season. Hope they will fit enough before opening game against ManU.

It’s only a pre-season game. It’s the performance that matters at this point and that doesn’t even matter that much

I seen that article on Ben Arfa . Would be a good captture if we succeed. We need reinforcements sooner rather than later as what we have atm will struggle in the EPL. Ashley need to release a decent amount of funds now.

Not exactly our strongest line-up so i’m not overly concerned. Plus Norwhich are a few weeks ahead of us in terms of fitness as the Championship season starts before the Premier League.

Hmm still think we need 2-3 Signings in and quick….

    We need a striker
A winger Competition for Jonas and Routledge..maybe Ben Arfa…:)

and a left back Backup/Competition for Jose Enrique….VPA would do the job 🙂

I’d like to see a RB/CB come in. Nedum Onuoha would be perfect, but looks like that ship has sailed.

Then back-up LB, RW & LW in one, ST

Onuoha would be perfect indeed. I think one of him and Richards will definitely leave. City with Kolarov have 31 players over 21 – 6 players can’t be registered as it stands.

So perhaps their fringe players will leave on loan as other teams might not have the money.

    Seen the goals –

Good finish from Ranger when offside.

I heard the first goal was Taylor’s fault but from Coloccini also shouldn’t have got sucked to the ball with Tavernier.

For Shola’s goal, Xisco showed a good bit of pace.

Krul should have saved the header but it wasnt a disastrous mistake.

P poor journalism from SSN again, thinking it was Shola offside for the disallowed goal.

Wonder if the people shipping Harper out the other day would still be happy for him to go, not a big deal for Krul though aslong as he learns from his mistakes.

i was there, Nile Rangers goal was never offside

Routledge played right back, with xisco right mid. tavernier at centre back. CH played some players put of position. but Krul was outstanding.

To top it all off, there was a Mackem sitting in the stand, proudly in his red and sh*te, some woman went and punched him, and he got ejected 😀

French daily L’Equipe today confirmed Olympique Marseille have received offers for midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa from Newcastle United.

-This guy would be the perfect addition to our squad if we signed him. He is very creative. If we pull of a deal for him than he will have competition with Jonas, Routledge and he can also play striker. We really need somebody who has speed and can score to play alongside our new #9 Andy Carroll.

Really dissapointing loss today but at least it wasnt the real season and not the real Barclay’s Premier League season. I agree with most of the comments above on our needs. I say a RB for sure. Which the best choice would be Kyle Naughton. At CB for S.Taylor replacement if not fit for Man U Nedium Onuoha. Still young has Premier League experience. At wing/striker Ben Arfa, Yannick Djalo.

    QUESTIONS!

who have we got on the left wing behind gutierez? nobody

who have we got at left back behind Jose enrique? nobody

who have we got that is a fast centre forward other than the average Lovenkrands? nobody

all of those questions need to be looked at within 30 odd days of what is left of the window. we need a left back, left mid, and a striker.
another centre half wouldnt go a miss and I love the idea of us getting Jonathon De Guzman

    is it going to happen?

i would love us to sign…
Van Aanholt (loan with option to buy)
    De Guzman – free
    Ben Arfa -5/6m
And a striker for 5-7m (love Djalo but think Tottenham will get him after his 2 goals against City the other day)
also Flamini is a possibility on loan with the option to buy but he isnt a priority due to all of our CMs

it wasnt our first team so no im not surprised really. please get rid of ryan taylor, i thought he was good when he came to us but i was obviously deluded.

if we can get another centre back plus lb cover then we should be fine as many others have said.

If we’re in for a pacey striker who could play next to Carroll than that would be Dani Pacheco on loan.

But somehow i feel that this is gonna be his year in Liverpool,so he wont be available on a loan.

Not because of something else, its because Roy will sell most of his strikers this Summer…Ngog and El-Zar for sure will be sold.
