Chris Hughton has decided to give a start to Slovenian 17 year-old Haris Vuckic, at Carrow Road, Norwich this afternoon.
Haris Vuckic – starts this afternoon
Slovenian winger Haris Vuckic has replaced Faroe Islands International Joan Edmundsson in the starting line-up, and the 18 year-old Edmundsson will now start on the bench, and could well appear later in the game.
James Tavernier and Nile Ranger are also youngsters in the starting line-up for Newcastle this afternoon, and Tim Krul starts the game in goal, but Fraser Forster is not even on the bench (is he injured?), with young Jak Alnick the back-up goalkeeper, who may play in the second half.
Here are the starting line-ups for this afternoon’s friendly game.
Norwich City: (4-4-2): Ruddy; R Martin, Crofts, Nelson, Drury; Surman, Hoolahan, Fox, C Martin; Jackson, Ward.
Subs: Steer (gk), Gill, Lappin, Johnson, McNamee, Francomb, Dawkin, Tudur Jones.
Newcastle United: (4-3-3): Krul; R Taylor, Tavernier, Coloccini, Enrique; Vuckic, Nolan, Barton; Ranger, Carroll, Best.
Subs: Alnwick (gk), Williamson, Ferguson, Henderson, Smith, Guthrie, Routledge, Xisco, Amoebi, Lovenkrands, Edmundsson.

Comment #3i still think we are carrying a lot of dead wood in our squad, that, if sold, we could buy a really good partner for andy c. this is just my opinion but players like xisco and best should be sold cos to be honest no other prem club has 7 strikers – carroll and lovenkrands are our 1st choice pairing and decent. ameobi – love him or hate him is always going to be our back up/squad player for his hometown club. and ranger is our new striking prospect, that could be the whole package in 3 – 5 years. thats 4. and say 5 if we bring in a natural finsher like keane or along those lines, a 15-20 goal striker. that why i just cannot see where best and especially xisco, fit in. in my opinion xisco is just totally uneccessary.

Comment #5Burnsie, a 15-20 goal a season striker would easily cost upwards of £10 mil & if you look at the strikers who actually scored 15 + goals last season in the epl we have zero chance of signing them. We’re going to have to hope that carrol & lovenkrands do the business or chris un-earths a diamond.

Think he scored an own goal too, which Krul should have saved anyway.
Disappointing result but we lost 7-1 last year to Orient so I’m not too bothered.

Comment #8Experimental formation, experimental players, at this stage its fitness.
When we play the likes of Rangers closer to the beginning of the season we should start looking at the result.
At least Shola is off the mark. I swear in the past 12 months, when hes played he seems to score at will.

Comment #9Ah well, win some lose some, right? A tad disappointed but like Oba said I’ll take 2-1 over 7-1 any day.
Also I agree with you burnsie, don’t see why we keep some players around… and hasn’t R. Taylor learned that he isn’t a right back yet?

Comment #10was it 7-1 to orient, thought it was 6-1 but i suppose theres not much difference anyway.
these friendlies of ours are similar to sven’s england friendlys really and cant be seen as anything other than an experiment.
i hope the psv game is taken more seriously as winning against a good european team would give us confidence going into the pl.

Comment #11It was 6-1 to Orient.
I want to know how Xisco did. I think he could be our secret weapon next season, if he sorts his attitude out…

Comment #14I reckon we’ll start a slow 4-5-1 against PSV and grind out a draw or a scrappy 1-0. Knowing Hughton he might go all out defence and start 10-0-0!
Xisco apparently looked dangerous at times, good passing play and decent hold up play.

Comment #16It feels like Hughton put a few of the players out he will be thinking about letting go, does anyone else think this game was to see who is good enough and who he should move on?

Comment #17haha if we cannot beat Norwich in their back yard whats going to happen at old Trafford…..i dread to think. Time to dig deep and get the players in we need . Ashley has spent very little and does not look like spending much more as loan signings seem to be what Hughton is banging on about all of the time. We need a decent striker to play along side Carroll, a left back and i wide man AT LEAST.

Comment #18I think a centre back is needed as well. But this friendly shouldn’t affect how we look at the new season. Norwich are championship now and we played with young players and without organisation to give most players possible a run out. The formations and line-ups will become more settled in the coming friendlies and then we can judge.
