Hughton Favorite To Be First Premier League Manager Sacked

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is the favorite to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked in the coming season.

Owner Mike Ashley greets Chris Hughton – hi Chrissie!

And Manchester City’s Italian manager Roberto Mancini is also a big favorite to be shown the door, and it’s Chris and Roberto who are the two top favorites to get their marching orders first.

William Hill have made Hughton the 4-1 favourite to be first to go with Mancini at 5-1. West Brom’s Roberto Di Matteo and Blackpool’s Ian Holloway, are also among the top six, and Sunderland’s Geordie manager Steve Bruce is surprisingly at 8-1.

For the top North East Club Sunderland are 11-10 and Newcastle are 4-6 – wrong again – and on the relegation front Newcastle are fifth favorites to go down at 11-4, behind Blackpool, West Brom, Wigan and Wolves.

Some reports say the betting will be a bitter blow for Hughton, but we don’t agree, and think that it will only make him more determined to prove his doubters wrong, just like he did so famously last season.

Of course the Premier League is so different from the Championship, but successful people do not dwell on the negatives – we can assure you of that – losers do that.

However, it is worrying that Hughton has not had his contract extended and it still runs out next summer, so it could be that owner Mike Ashley is waiting to see just how well Chris and his assistant Colin Calderwood do in the top football league in the world, before doing anything at all with their contracts.

Comments welcome.

I don’t think he’ll be the first but if things are looking bad at Xmas, I think Ashley will look at getting someone with more PL experience to try & stave of another relegation battle….

Plus I understand why Ashley hasn’t renewed CH’s contract just yet, I think that he’ll also leave that until Xmas & if we’re doing great, like in the top half maybe 😉 then he’ll give him a 3 year contract but I think he’s edging his bets at the moment & won’t do anything, either way until around Xmas just to be on the safe side & to save himself losing yet another £3m in compo if nothing else.. 🙂

    Like Best and Perch !!!!!!!

I think we have a very distinct lack of quality with signings like the above and people like Smith still on the books, although way past it on astronomic wages. The jury is out on Gosling.

We have an opportunity now to get quality freebies and creative, pacey, attacking midfield players like ALBIN, De Guzman etc, yet we are still trawling around the championship. Drenthe is on offer at only 4 M from Real Madrid !

I’m afraid it’s going to be route 1 up to Carroll, and ultra negative predictable 4-5-1 with Smith away from home.

The trouble is if Hughton does get sacked we ‘d only have the ridiculous spectacle of someone like Kinnear all over again.

Everyone keeps saying how good hughtons signings have been, im not as convinced myself, i like the type of players he is after, young hungry etc, but so far he has signed:-

    “Simpson”- horrible player
“Best”- I never thought he was good enough in fizzy before we signed him.
“Routledge”-Aint good enough at premiership level.
“williamson”-liked the signing of him, always rated him when he was at wycombe, but does lack pace.
“perch”-ok as a squad player as cover, but nowhere near good enough to be first choice right back.
“gosling”-decent player but no better than what we have in barton and guthrie, we needed a midfielder with pace.

I’m quite dissapointed so far, the players we missed out on in moses, perch, gunter, beckford are far better players in my opinion. I see we have been linked to a move for diarra from real madrid, that would be a good signing, he only has 1 year left on his contract.

We should be going for players with prem experience, sol campbell would be good for 1 season, sidwell, luke young, stephen hunt, seb larrsen, mark noble etc

Yes hughton’s signings may have done a job but they are clearly not premiership level, in Best’s case not even championship class.

KK may have had his flaws but there was always a buzz about who was coming in next. No one can really get excited about signing the likes of best, perch etc.

It’s not even as if Ashley has to get the cheque book out as de Guzman, Albin etc are on frees !

But if the bench mark of our aspiration is solid championship players with no star quality then a yo yo club is just what we will ne.

Friendly defeats always bring such pessimism.

All Hughton needs to do is ship out a few players where we have an abundance of options and replace them with players who’ll compete where we currently lack any depth.

We could easily sell on 3 players and replace them with say Garrido, Albin and possbily splashing out on someone like Erdinc to give 2 good options in each position. The only other thing might be to sign Weiss or Cleverly on loan whilst Gosling recovers but that really is it and there’s still 5 weeks of the transfer window to go and 3 until our first match.

juan albin isnt on a free rotondo, I have been saying this for months, he is contracted to june 2011, very good player, not sure if prem would suit his style though. And erdinc isnt great either, i thought we would sign cabaye from france, very good central midfielder.

    Meerkat,

I know what you’re saying, it’s just that the likes of Best and Perch don’t inspire you to think that Hughton will change his blueprint for new players any time soon.

I would have liked newcastle to have a side similar to this for next season:-

    ————————–harper

    Onouha——campbell——collocini——enrique

    Larrson——-barton———sidwell———jonas

    —————-carroll———lovo

I totally agree with you. Hughton should be in like a man on a mission to get in the likes of Guzman and Albin and why not try and get Ben Arfa. He can only say no. What we have atm is not good enough and to add to our worries S.Taylor is out until October. Hughton keeps saying we only need a few faces, what a load of utter crap, we need another 4-5 players to compete. We need a left back why the hell does he not try his luck for Aanholt. We need a centre back as Taylor and Kadar are in the knacker yard for now we only have Williamson and Colocinni and maybe Perch at a push. Campbell may be a good option. I did not want Campbell last week but we have little option now. We need a wide man who can play on both flanks surely our scouts have a few players in mind to cover each wide position. And we CERTAINLY need a striker because Best and Ameobi are not good enough for the CC never mind the PL. Hughton keeps banging on about loans and he is pushing all the way for Cleverly. We do not need Cleverly as we are overrun with players that play in that position. We are top heavy with midfielders and we are crying out for cover at Left back and a DECENT striker. Cmon Hughton stop licking ya gaffers backside and tell him how it really is. Get rid or Best,Ameobi,R.Taylor,Smith.

I think the thing you guys are forgetting is, yes these players would be a nice to have but who says that they want to come to the Toon in the first place???

Yes we can bid for them but if they or their respective clubs say no, then what can you do about it???

We’re not a big club paying big wages anymore, so dream all you like about getting those kinds of player in but it ain’t gonna happen.. sorry!!!

If we do not at least try to sign these players then what’s the point mate. Nobody is saying that we will get the player and nobody is dreaming either. I have watched NUFC for 30 years and we have signed some top players. Ben Arfa yes is a long shot but has your parents never said to you “shy bairns get nothing”????

As far as I can see Hughton is one of the safest managers in his job. With the lack of investment we are more or less preparing for the possibility of relegation. He is a yes man and a cheap option to Ashley and if we did go down he would be determined to win the championship again.

Expectations will be lowered and I don’t think there will be another case where the media can blame the fans for forcing a manager out. We’re backing Hughton and Ashley is out of necessity.

Supposedly there`s more to come (players) the figure three has been mentioned.
Now whether that includes loanees or regular signings is unclear, at least to me.
In which case i will reserve judgement untill i see who comes in.
Rumor has it that there`s been an approach for Ben Arfa, a good young player, fit`s the profile and seemingly going for a much reduced figure than he was sold for recently.
The word is, that`s due to his being difficult and has supposedly had run ins with some team-mates, not to mention his manager.
But undoubtably a talented youngster, who can play a behind the front striker role and we need goalscoring help.
Think you should go for it MIKE, can allways sell him on if it does`nt work out, but it`s a n opportunity that does`nt come up every day.

Get Ben Arfa in and if he plays up get Barton to give him a clip around the lug as to not disturb the current environment around the club. The last thing NUFC need right now is someone to come in and spoil it all. We have had it all at NUFC, player cliques, new owners, fights on the pitch, fights off the pitch, player power, all sorts of crap at the club. No more i say and if we do have a chance of signing this kid then he must be sat down and told that the unity at our club is at its best atm and no-one will be signed who looks like threatening this unity. We have the right attitude at the club at this present time but we sadly lack the quality to take it a step further. Seems like a catch 22 you have difficult but talented players that take the club to CL or you have mediocre players with the right attitude. We need both as do any many other clubs to succeed.

toon1978, how do you even know he isnt trying to get players of that quality? its not like hes gonna go straight to the media and say: “uh.. we tried to get albin, but he didnt want to come to Newcastle, he thinks that is a step down” or something like that. Why would he want to give bad news to the papers? Instead lets be patient and see what happens, and regarding routledge not beeing premiership level. I think he will step it up and be one of our best players next season 🙂

I am far from a chav my friend. Take your stereotypical crap elsewhere. I am a father and a husband and have no time for silly name calling. I do not come on here all the time and i only express my opinion on what i see on the pitch. R.Taylor and the rest of them will not cut it in the EPL that is JUST my opinion and do not give a toss whether you like it or not. I do not hate any of the players that i mentioned i just do not think they take us forward as a club.
