Hughton – We Got What We Wanted Out Of The Game

Chris Hughton thinks he saw some signs of pre-season progress yesterday at Carrow Road, even though the lads went down 2-1 to Norwich City.

Chris Hughton – learned things yesterday

The two goals scored by Chris Martin, were not good ones to concede from a Newcastle point of view.

The Newcastle manager made 10 changes in all to ensure the fringe players got a game before the bigger pre-season games start next weekend.

Chris said today:

“It was the type of test we needed,” “There are no excuses for losing but it is part of our pre-season program and we got what we wanted out of the game.”

“I never like losing, irrespective of whether it’s a pre-season friendly game or during the season, so that was disappointing, but it was about everyone getting another 45 minutes under their belts.”

“They were very good opposition with a lot of momentum in their game, and it was tough. Norwich showed they are a team in very good rhythm, they’ve been back longer than we have and played more minutes than we have and they deserved their win.”

“We’ll look to push on next week.”

Newcastle will have games against PSV Eindhoven and Glasgow Rangers coming up, and Chris will need to field more first-teamers for those games, but we cannot afford to have any more of our starters injured, before the season starts on August 16th at Old Trafford.

But this shows our squad is still not big enough or with enough quality – yet – but we live in continual hope.

Comments welcome.

Sources in my country say that Man City will have a fire sale in the next 20 days by putting believe it or not…..17 players on transfer list.

Maybe CH is waiting and picking his targets now 🙂

your right partizan they need to trim their 37 man squad to 25, so at least 12 players will be leaving,

ive heard rumours about us getting,

    vladimier weiss
    stephen ireland
    micheal johnson
    nedum onouha
    micah richards

all from city so it may be that chris is just waiting to pounce.

The press reports of Man City’s 37 man squad are incorrect. I counted the other day and it is no more than 31.
The papers have forgotten that u21’s are not included.

Sadly I feel Zangwill-Ho may have a point. We do need more pace and quality added to the squad. Might be worth calculating who our 25 will be. Looks like Tavernier will be up among them.

Tavernier is under 21. Also unless we sign like 6 more players, I think, then we won’t need to calculate who our 25 will be

Ericles, We currently have 21 players who are 21 or over. (Carroll is 21).

So we currently have 4 spaces available, but I can’t see us filling these, especially with Cleverly and PVA who a lot of fans want being under21.

From our squad I would imagine only 2 at the most will leave – (one keeper and Xisco)

We hv space for 4 more players in r 25man sqaud, anyone under 21 dosent hav to be registered in the sqaud but they can play at anytime ie vukic ranger gosling don’t hav to b named in the sqaud but can play, home grown players r any age any nationality as long as they were at british clubs between the age of 18 n 21 ie krul is classed as home grown

    Nedium Onuoha
    Michael Johnson
    Micah Richards

They would be fantastic buys. Gauranteed top half of Premier League

michael johnson is finished, his injuries and attitude have ruined his career, onouha is a top prospect, stephen irelands wages are too high, he is currently on 6ok with a clause in his contract for his wages to go up to 80k next season, well out of our reach, he is just happy picking up his wages, and micah richards is overated, I would only want onouha out of the players mentioned

Wouldn’t mind grabbing Boateng, like. Cracking young lad. Also wouldn’t mind getting Weiss in either on a permanent deal or loan.

I wouldnt say Michael Johnson was finished. He did a cruciate last December and is expected to return in the new year. He seems pretty positive about coming back . He won’t be registered in this transfer window, but I think we’d have the chance to loan him in january has he gets back to fitness.

baro, I love Boateng but I don’t think Portsmouth will sell for 4mil. I think they are holding out for 6mil. They were pretty annoyed when someone bid 2.5mil just after the world cup.

another dull boring day on the transfer front and with only 35 days to go until deadline day and newastle needing at least three more players in my opinion, its starting to get a little bit worrying.

by using in depth complicated calculations ive worked out we should sign another player within a fortnight from now. dont ask me who, but looking at the time we have left statistics say we WILL sign another player within a fortnight.

The Ben Arfa to us doesn’t seem to be going away. It’s now reported in The Telegraph so there might actually be something in it

Would not complain if we get him on a loan with option to buy, if he cuts it we sign him, if not back he goes

howay man —— Agree with you.

We need a class striker, a winger, and a RB/CB (Nedium Onuoha/ Kyle Naughton). Jonathon De Guzman would be the perfect signing because he is FREE!!!! Your not wasting any cash Chris Hughton. But he does get injured a lot. Very creative attacking midfielder.

On the other hand hopefully Chris Hughton can tie up a deal for French winger Hatem Ben Arfa. Still young and we need creative attackers in our lineup. Its a season long loan deal with a option of view to being permanent deal.

Even better. Stephen Ireland is going to leave because he is not in the first team, new PL rules, and now a bust up with Mancini new coach. Worth going after, he would be good player to have. Still young.

I think there is going to be a mass exodus at city, with a lot of english players leaving, bridge, lescott, onuhua, richards, ireland, johnson(m) maybe even barry, not to mention garrido, zabaleta, bellamy and santa cruz . all of those could be on there way out and i think most of them could do a job with us and i think most of them are realistic as they will want to play 1st team football and will want to prove themselves again
