Newcastle Continue Their Pursuit Of Ben Arfa

If things go well it’s possible that Newcastle could make two signings this week.

Ben Arfa – Newcastle in for this player?

There is continuing news that Ben Arfa is interesting the Newcastle club, and also that Newcastle want to sign Bolton’s Jlloyd Samuel to get some experienced defensive cover across the back four.

Sky Sports is reporting Newcastle are one of the clubs interested in getting Ben Arfa  for next season – either on loan or in a straight cash transfer.

Ben Arfa was in the side that won the French title last season, and French newspaper L’Equipe is reporting that Newcastle’s representatives will meet with Marseilles to discuss a transfer this week.

A transfer fee of  around £7M has been mentioned, and we have no idea if that is too much for the Tyneside club, but this lad is a good player and would add definite  quality to the Newcastle squad.

Ben Arfa’s agent Michel Ouazine has said that his client wants to join a club that will further his career, even if he is not a first-team regular, and that could benefit  Newcastle, who could not guarantee the lad a starting position every game.

Michel told L’Equipe:

“Hatem (full name Hatem Ben Arfa) has reached a turning point in his career,”

“His choice will only be a sporting one.” “Hatem could also remain at l’OM. He can’t leave at random.”

Newcastle fans could read into that statement that Newcastle is the leading club for his signature – but we’d also be completely biased of course.

Anyway it seems that Newcastle are indeed after this good young player, and we have to think he’d be a cracking signing for the club.

What do you think?

This is simply another no no from the media. Where do we get the cash and where do these so-called additional players fit into the 25 man squad? Some players are not going to be included – who? Has anybody got any lists for who they think the 25 men will be?

He would be a fantastic buy if we can get him but I think that’s a big if…

I’m as Newcastle biased as anyone but can you really count coming from the title winning French side and champions league football to Newcastle, just because we’re back in the Premiership to “further his career”?

Not so sure but at least its looks like we’re trying to get him and that’s what counts at this stage. Come on Ben, u know u wanna b a Geordie! lol

For the record I think he looks (unfortunately) quite a lot like Jermain (Goldfish)Jenas.

U can’t deny he would be a great influence on the younger defenders coming though and who better could we honestly get to throw on in an emergency situation?

Anyone else would be either too expensive or not good enough. Don’t knock it until we’ve tried it I reckon. Especially if we get him on a respectable wage.

If we get Ben Arfa on loan (with an option to sign) then it’ll be one of the biggest coups in years! Even if his attitude is a bit shizer, we can send him on again or ship him back, if he matures a bit then perfect!

Having said that, with AC interested, Im not holding out much hope!

Ericles, the 25 players rule doesn’t include players of 21 or under, so at present we actually only have 21 in our squad that need to be registered; 22 if Sol signs today, which wouldn’t break my heart. Room for three more then.

We can have as many players as we like of 21 or under that can play at any point in the season. It’s designed to make teams bring their own players through. Good idea I think.

Oh, and is it just me, or does Ben Arfa sound a bit like N’Zogbia to anyone else?

Young, talented, french left winger, with a shit temperament.

    @ Davies

I’ve said the names over and over in my head and even out loud on occasion, but I have to say, I don’t think ‘ ben arfa’ sounds anything like ‘n’zogbia’. 😉

I know what you mean though, the last thing we need is someone to disrupt the dressing room.

ben arfa has always been hard to handle, i think he would be ok at newcastle as he will be the biggest star at the toon, and he likes feeling like that, similar to why i think berbatov hasnt done much at man utd, cos he is a small fish in a big pond there.

And on sol campbell, i will be happy if we signs, add some experience to our back four, which you always need when you go back up, if we had a decent right back, we would have a good defence, i suppose s.taylor could play there

Thanks Davies – it is clearer now. With Sol and 3 more we seem within CH’s target numbers. It seems some other clubs will be overloaded – e.g., Man City. Odd about Ben Arfa’s expression – is it aggro someone has let a bad one go, or is what he is listening to that mad?

i think chris can get the best out of players in the way sir bobby did. i dont seem to think that chris is the slightest bit egotistical and i think that this is a quality that troubled players will warm to in the way that joey barton has.

if ben arfa comes then i doubt he will have any issues with the manager and i am sure he will soon be put in his place if he trys to act the big man around the training ground, especially with the likes of andy and joey around.

Don’t get your hopes up guys. This is not going to happen. And there is nothing new in this btw. Different papers publishing the same story again and again. I would not be surprised if we are not in for this player at all.

Who would you choose between Ben Arfa or De Guzzman?

I would go for De Guzzman; better attitude and I think he will be more the player willing to battle for the black n white stripes.

If Ben Arfa is signed, which I really doubt, then it would also be a fantastic signing off course.

I really hope Campbell wills be signed today. Good experience and always admired his defensive skills. There is hope here and I think if we get LB backup we will have a good defence.

    Harper
    Simpson/Perch – Colo – Cambell – Enrique

or perhaps CH will choose to play Colo in front of the defence (when Taylor is fit).

    Harper
    Simpson/Perch – S Taylor – Campbell – Enrique
    Colo

Yep, he’s a ringer for Laurent Robert – with a dash of JJ. Lets hope he has more grit in his belly than either of those (IF we sign him).
