Is Ben Arfa Next Through The Door At Newcastle?

There is divided opinion about whether Newcastle are in for Olympique Marseilles midfielder Ben Arfa.

Ben Arfa – hmmmm – should I join Newcastle?

Chris Hughton has tried his best to play down the rumors but the local Newcastle papers are reporting  they believe Newcastle are in for the player, and trying to arrange a deal, and may even be favorites to land the 23 year-old French International.

And Marseilles Sporting Director Jose Anigo is even fanning the flames as he suggests a move for the player to Newcastle may be a good deal.

He was asked yesterday whether Ben Arfa would be leaving for pastures anew and he answered:

“It is possible,” “He needs to play and perhaps a move to a foreign championship will enable him to stop suffering from the comparisons that have damaged his progression.”

“He needs a club, a coach and an environment which are appropriate to him.”

“There is not only Newcastle (who are interested) – they are one of four of five who we are in discussion with. There are also German clubs.”

“I think we have done all we can with him. He must choose the right club – he has talent and he must go somewhere where he can express it. With us he has had good and bad moments.”

So it may be that following the success of capturing both Dan Gosling and Sol Campbell, who will both strengthen the Newcastle squad significantly,  this is Chris’ next target, and certainly the youngster would be a good acquisition for the club, either as an incoming transfer or on loan for the season.

A spanner in the works could be his valuation, and it may well be that Marseilles are attempting to get a big transfer fee for a player who is expected to be in Laurent Blanc’s France side next month.

Newcastle have already shown last January and this summer, they can negotiate some good deals, and it would not surprise us too much if Ben Arfa is the next through the door at Newcastle.

We certainly hope so.

here is a little compilation of ben arfa……could do with him to give jonas a little compitition on the left wing….also he gives us variation as he is a left footer. good player…just needs to get his head screwed on properly….going abroad playing with a closely knit grp such as the toon these days could be exactly what he needs to grow and fulfill the expectations people have of him in france..

Mmmmm this is a strange one because I think CH has bid for him but I don’t think he’s sure about him coming due to the other 4-5 clubs that are supposedly after him too!!!

Yes he’d be a great signing as log as he’s not like the other french players we’ve had in the past & throws a wobbly every time something doesn’t go his way, that’s a disruption we don’t need in the team this season, we had that with Zogs & it didn’t help us & we eventually got relegated, so you see where I’m coming from on this??

I’d like him to come on loan with the option to buy after 12 months & see how he does for us without us wasting £5m+ on a unknown PL player!!

Have to agree with Solaidback on this – a loan option would be best for us. For the figure being quoted £7m i would prefer to see that invested in a striker.

On a different note – saw the ManU kids in action last night – there is some real class there. I would love to get Cleverly and Gibson in the squad

Another whistling down the wind transfer rumour. It would be good to get him but I feel in my bones he and his agent are angling for interest elsewhere. CH knows this is a scam for sure. Sad really cos Arfa would be a great acquisition.

absolutely……£7m would be too much…..loan with buyout option would be perfect unless we get him at £4m max…that would be ok by me.

Hey guys, apparently Michael Mancienne of Cheski has put in a transfer request – http://www.sportingo.com/football/a13859_chelsea-defender-hands-transfer-request that would be a good buy as he can play midfield or defence, good replacement for Butt & only 22yrs old too 🙂

Rotonda heights .. AC have decided unless ronaldinho leaves Arfa won’t be coming ..
Marseille have let it be known newcastle reps were meant to be there on monday but it has been rescheduled for thursday .. so its up to Arfa .. but theres german teams interested .. so at the moment its between us and them .. but news that we are signing players might sway him .. or hopefully he talks to Ginola or Robert to see how big a club we are…

I’ve heard to get Arfa on loan its 1mill Euro up front for the loan .. then the other 6 mill if we’d like to buy .. this comes from various news sources in France … he does look a good player but he attitude stinks .. hopefully the new challenge will have him showing off what he can do .. from what I’ve seen of him the only thing missing is the end product but he is quality on the ball .. imagine him on the left or as a ACM ..

If AC were in it would be expected that he’d go there, purely for the prestige HOWEVER if he isn’t managing to get games at Marseille then perhaps a deal with us with more chance of playing time would suit him better?

Hughton has handled this well in my opinion, none of this Allardyce/Kinnear “we’re in for so and so, and bid so much for so and so” bullsh@t. It WILL be a coup if we get him and at this stage it does seem unlikely, so Hughton said that!

Having said that IF (and it’s a massive if) we do get him, it’ll be yet another reason why Hughton will deserve more time at the helm as it can be expected that a possible 4/5 of his players who he bought will be in the starting 11 against United…It’s starting to become HIS team!

DJM TOON .. true but he’s pure talent on the ball .. great to watch .. just a bit of coaching to know when to release the ball and he’d be as good as ginola was IMO..

Solaidback .. yep true but didn’t robert want back here and ginola still raves about us in the papers … they could probably sell our club to him by showing how both them players were cheered on here …

I’ve got a feeling he’s coming here as his agent is cracking up with AC milan saying come and get him …. you can’t blame him for wanting to go there .. but hopefully if we get him on loan we’ll tie up a perm deal cause he would be one of the players to watch out for this season .. if he comes..

LMFAO jonas guti, there is no way ben arfa would even consider newcastle, he can move to a club where he can play champions league football, not have a relegation fight, we couldnt afford his wages anyways, dont see the point in making stuff up, his agent is just trying to drum up interest in their client. And on Krul signing a contract, he isnt a bad goalkeeper, but newcastles goalkeeper coach rates forster as alot better, and i can see why, forster has everything, where as krul is a good shot stopper, but poor on crosses and general reading of the game, still think krul has a good chance of making it, he needs experience, we should keep forster to battle with harper, and loan out krul.

When Harper hangs up his boots then Forster and Krul will have to battle it out for the number 1 shirt. Hopefully we can keep hold of them both. As for Arfa, we never thought we would get Owen but we did. If it happens then happy days, if not move onto the next target.

I think on any major investment, where possible, it is much better for us to take a player on loan with a transfer fee agreed upfront, then we aint wasting money like we have done oh so many times in the past.
