It’s good that Newcastle have just signed Sol Campbell, because official news today that Steven Taylor will be out until the end of October ( a full 3 months) with his shoulder injury.
Steven Taylor – big blow for Newcastle
We had reported over the weekend that unofficial news was reporting he would be out until that time, but it’s now official, with the Newcastle medical staff ruling him out until the end of October.
Taylor was injured during the Newcastle friendly at Carlisle on Saturday, July 17th, and the defender had only just recovered from his serious knee injury from the game in January against WBA, and indeed it was his first game back.
A Newcastle club statement was issued today:
“Newcastle United can confirm that Steven Taylor is expected to be sidelined for three months.”
“Steven has had surgery on his left shoulder which he dislocated at Carlisle and after further assessment of the injury in the past week the medical bulletin is that it will be a three month period of rehabilitation.”
As we said, it will be good that Sol is available to play in central defense, and when Steven does return he could well find himself playing right back at Newcastle, in a back four of Taylor (S) Campbell Coloccini Enrique.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1People call Owen injury prone but Taylor just as bad if not worse!

Comment #2could be worse. Because of internationals in early september the season doesn’t really get started until October anyway so he shouldn’t miss too many matches if he can get back by November.
A bit harsh Toon Factor but he has had a bad run of late.

Lewis Rutledge:
According to reports in Uruguay, Newcastle are interested in signing Egidio Arevalo Rios from Penarol this summer. The Magpies are thought to have been impressed by the midfielder’s performances for his country at the World Cup.
interesting….

Comment #15FFS!! Why didn’t someone get Big Andy to shake his hand last March and that would have tested the dodgy shoulder once and for all. That way Tayls could have got the jaw, shoulder and knee over and done with at the same time. Talk about lack of planning. CH, you are slipping.
Any other injury prone players should be referred to Dr A Carroll without further delay for a check up….

Comment #16hes in a bit of a state now but it was never danny glover fighting the bad guy at the end and mel had always popped his shoulder atleast twice by then and had atleast two bullet holes aswell.
i think we need an action hero around the training ground.
maybe bruce willis?

Comment #17PS: ‘Big Andy’ v ‘Solid Sol’ what would you give to be a fly on the changing room wall for that encounter? I reckon Solid Sol on a 4th round technical knock out… Book the Arena now, all proceeds to ‘CH Transfer Kitty’.

Comment #20Note how Newcastle only released this information AFTER completing the signing of Steven Taylor’s replacement.
This is a much better organized Newcastle United club these days; i.e. well run and nothing goes to the media until it’s the right time….
Well done….

Comment #23Looking at the squad numbers we need a 22 and a 24 to tidy the sequence up. Is CH after 2 more quality players to even things up? Whoever they will be Sky and the rest of the media have not the faintest idea. In some respects I prefer it that way.
Great to see the Sunday press always wrong – not forgetting the bookies too.

Comment #27Its honestly not that big a blow really. If Steven Taylor was from Birmingham for instance, would he be seen as being as integral to our squad? He’s a decent centre half, but he is fond of giving away pens with dubious challenges and hand balls etc. Not that i think we should sell him because i do think what you get from him is a lot of passion, he is NUFC through and through, and those last ditch blocks etc are something. Plus, we wouldn’t get anyone better from the PL, and if you’re shopping abroad, you don’t know what you’re going to get.
Midfield is the problem we have, not defense. Many might disagree, but i’m serious. Routledge and Gutierrez i have faith in – they’re fast, and that counts for loads in this league. Guthrie i’ve always rated – he’s a good crosser of the ball, can pick out a pass well, even if he does get caught in possession and is as good at tackling as Scholes. Barton i think we surprise many this season – there was never a question over his ability, just his attitude. If he can stay injury free and out of trouble, he’ll be a new signing. Vuckic is a real prospect, and i like what i see.
But seriously, Nolan and Smith are finished at this level – no pace, far far too slow for this league. Sell both, bring in two replacements – if we could get them, and i don’t see why not, i’d say Scott Brown and Jamie O’Hara. Defensive and attacking midfield options right there. I’d sell Smith, Nolan, Best and put Ranger out on loan, and to be fair thats it. Bring in 2 central midfielders and a striker. With the 25 man squad rule about to leave some big names potentially sitting it out, we’re actually in a strong position, given we have no problems with the 8 home grown part of this system. Santa Cruz, Keane or, ha wait for it, Bellamy could all be available. No neck Craig coming back, unfinished business, all is forgiven etc. He’d work well with Carroll probably. I’d prefer Keane though – not an injury crock, and a proven record as a PL goal scorer.

You are right. We desperately need a defensive minded midfielder to who will sit in front of our back four to protect the defenders. It won’t happen, but we do need one.

Comment #31freddie i would disagree and say cb’s and lb is where we are strongest. our defence was not even that bad in the relegation season (we hardly scored and had a record amount of draws plus the highest points total ever for a relegated team in a 20 team pl), i know we are now missing bassong and beye but i do think enrique and collo have improved enough to make up for that.
campbell should do well but we will all have to see with pearch as none of us can really know how he will perform, no matter what our opinions are

Comment #34LEFT MIDFEILD is or main priority, we only have gutierez who can play there and he’s not even left footed. When gutierrez gets injured or is on international duties or whatever, who do we play at left mid? lovenkrands is pathetic there, so I honestly think we should look at;
Jamie Ohara, the rumours of him coming seem to have dissapeared, He can play at left mid and I doubt Spurs would want too much for him. Plus he meets all of our requirments, young and english,
Plus hughton has worked with him before at spurs. I honesly would take ohara over ben Arfa every day of the week, from what Ive heard from Deschamps has said, Ben Arfa seems like a totally ungratefull moaning french n0bhead rather similar to nzogbia. anyways the team atmosphere has been the best for years, the reason being; the players are all english, mostly all scousers and geordies very simmilar workin class backgrounds for every player so I really cant see a french d1ck who thinks hes the best thing to grace the world, fitting in with the current crop.

Comment #37howay man- in my opinion it is a shocking defence. Can sol be relied on given his age to play the amount of matches he will be needed for? I think Rooney, Bent, Drogba, Defoe and the majority of strikers in the prem will be licking there lips at facing our lot. Dont even get me started on how we plan to score or win midfield battles.

Comment #38ok sorry freddie that must have been a terrible insult to you, i just saw negative comments on every thread and thought this was another hugh g hampton style thing.
i feel ok about our defence, i am more worried about the fact that we only have one decent striker and even he has probably played less than 10 pl games in his life.

Comment #39Freddie what are you talking about????? Do you expect us to sign world class foreign superstars? Money doesn’t grow on trees and we don’t have any – speak to any football fan outside of Newcastle and they all say that for the first time in years, we’ve got the basis of a great little squad – decent youngster coming through, a good line of communication to the fans, and a strong success rate with the transfer market (Routledge, Williamson, McLoven). The current structure we have in place is working. We are working within our means and we are doing it well.
It really annoys me when our own fans can’t see this and still demand the WOW signings. Sol is a fantastic signing for us and looking at what’s happened to Taylor i can’t think of anyone better, in our current situation.

your right, we will get battered by drogba, defoe rooney etc but thats to be expected because they play for chelsea tottenham and Man UTD respectivly so we cant be too dissapointed that our defense will get mashed by those players. I believe our defence is far better than;
blackpool
west brom
wolves
birmingham
wigan
and maybes one or two more teams so its certanly not the worst defence in the league. Its enough to get us survival for sure.
