There are 3 pre-season games still to go before the Premier League season opens at Old Trafford on Monday, 16th August.
James Perch – training again
Tomorrow Newcastle will entertain PSV Eindhoven and then on Tuesday they will travel to play Deportivo in Spain, and then next weekend the lads are at Glasgow Rangers.
So our toughest three pre-season games are coming up.
Chris Hughton is expected to field his strongest side tomorrow, and it appears that both Steve Harper and James Perch will be involved.
Chris Hughton talked today about tomorrow’s game:
“Everybody who is fit will be involved.” “What we will do over these next two games against PSV and Deportivo on Tuesday is give players longer on the pitch.”
“In the initial two games, we gave players 45 minutes each.” “The other players outside that are Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Tamas Kadar and Sol (Campbell), as it’s too early for him.”
“I think we’re hoping Tamas will be into full-time training in a couple of weeks.” “James Perch is back training, and will be available for tomorrow.”
“Fraser Forster isn’t involved, he has a very slight injury, but Steve Harper’s fine, as is Tim Krul.”
We need to get as many players as possible fit, before the beginning of the season, although Steven Taylor, for one, is out until probably early November.
It will be interesting to see how Newcastle cope with PSV tomorrow, because pre-season is starting to take on a more serious tone, and Chris will be fielding his strongest side – at least at the start.
Comments welcome.

I hope he does field our best XI. We need to start making a true assessment of the quality of our first XI.

Cant wait to see this team we field!
Does that comment from Chris mean Sol wont be playing tomorrow ??

“And, after much debate throughout the football world, Newcastle United can confirm that supporters will not be permitted to bring vuvuzelas into St. James’ Park this season.”
I’m literally fist pumping.
4 WesJameson // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:29 PM
steady on thump, im from south africa, at first i admit, i was sceptical about the vuvuzela, but after attending several world cup games….i will now admit that….WITH the vuvuzela, the atmosphere was INCREADIBLE, i will also say though it sounds Sh1te on T.V
5 Thump // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:38 PM
And I’m from England and as a sound engineer I can say it’s the most offensive noise ever produced. The only positive is that people were bursting their throats trying to blow them for 90 minutes.
Bring on the Blaydon Races.
6 Teamstoof // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:40 PM
Will Jonas and Collo play tomorrow? I think we are in good shape for making it through the PL but we will need at least 1 goal scorer in the transfermarket so we don´t have to strugle the whole season
7 WesJameson // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:45 PM
fair enough, i agree,i do perfer the old school chants and singing….but you must remember that this is an international blog, and the vuvuzela is a South African ‘icon’ and what you are saying is slightly offensive, i mean i would never tell the folks at Pompei to stop their ‘Chimes’ just because i didnt like the sound
8 WesJameson // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:46 PM
@ Teamstoof // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:40 PM
Agreed mate, i hope they play too
9 andyglostoon // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:54 PM
That’ll be the team we had in the championship then!
10 Zangwill_Ho // Jul 30, 2010 at 5:56 PM
good luck try our best!!!!!
11 MacToon // Jul 30, 2010 at 6:30 PM
Thump @ 2, I’m happy too. After watching dozens of games with the vuvuzela drones It’s good to look forward to a more English atmos. No offence but if it works in Africa fine but ya cannnot wack 50k chanting “loons”
I mean toon’sarmy ha ha.
As for the strongest 11, I won’t be reading too much into this match tbh, Rangers game will give us a better idea.
Maybe we will still get 1 or 2 first team starters signed up soon….. hopefully!

training shirt, home shirt, away shirt,3rd shirt=great…stop complaining about mike ashley, hes doing all he can to save the club from relegation and is running the club the right way now…not to mention the millions hes spent on the club
13 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 7:12 PM
agreed rknufc apart from the training shirt and home shirt look horrible
14 Thump // Jul 30, 2010 at 7:15 PM
I don’t mean to offend, Wes and your metaphor is somewhat flawed. This is Newcastle – not South Africa.
@rknufc: What? Who said anything about those? They’re typical template shirts by a company that has made money on template designs. They’re decent but anything but “great”.
And he didn’t “spend millions” on the club – he “loaned millions” to the club. It has to go back into his pocket at some point.
15 geordielad880 // Jul 30, 2010 at 7:23 PM
jonas is available apparently, simpson, forster, s.taylor, kadar and gosling unavailable.
16 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 7:24 PM
the fact that he hasnt charged interest, is a saving of millions for our club, plus the money he spent on buying the club aswell.
teams like man u and liverpool are paying 30 to 40 million on interest every year. i agree that ashley is not what we first thought and i am not really too keen on the bloke but we could do alot worse imo.
17 rknufc // Jul 30, 2010 at 7:28 PM
any1 heard any transfer rumours has been very dull day in terms of transfers
18 slazberger // Jul 30, 2010 at 7:34 PM
plus he loaned us the money at a time when we had no chance of getting a loan from a bank do to the mess they are in. its a new chapter for newcastle with hopefully no more over paid ‘stars’ and a regular change of manager. lets stop being the soap opera team and support everything the club is trying to do.
19 harry5450 // Jul 30, 2010 at 7:45 PM
Went to see PSV v Ipswich the other week and to be honest they didn’t look a great team.
Hopefully we can perform well against them and knock a couple in.
20 howay man // Jul 30, 2010 at 8:24 PM
God we are desperate for a left winger!
O’HARA please!
21 Darling27 // Jul 30, 2010 at 8:44 PM
We Need A Left Back!!! How Many Times!!!
22 Darling27 // Jul 30, 2010 at 8:46 PM
If Enrique gets injured we’re screwed!!! Yes Kadar is a quality player and can drop in but we still need proper cover!!!
23 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 8:49 PM
i thought o’hara was a cm, dont we have enough of them and a more exciting prospect in vuckic
24 davis_toons // Jul 30, 2010 at 8:59 PM
We have sign new players that just appear for us for a while.
1. When will Sol be fit or “fit in” to play, or will he ever in 1 year contract?
2. When will Gosling be fit too to play? Will he be back too soon and get another injury?
So, who have we bought in to play/ target for our 1st 11?
or to improve the current 1st team players?
WHO????
25 howay man // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:01 PM
@lewman O’hara is a utility player he can play centre mid, left mid, and infront or behind the midfeild. hes young, english and he battles well in relegation dog-fights he is just perfect for us.
26 davis_toons // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:03 PM
Are our scouting network working? Before manutd or any other club get another talent or “twin brothers players” from else where eg. Brazil, Arg, etc.
27 Thump // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:05 PM
You’re right lewman – it was interest free! Can anybody remind me who owns SJP and it’s training grounds?
Disaster waiting to happen imo.
28 Thump // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:06 PM
Oh, also lads – Reserves are 3-0 up at Gateshead. Ranger, Vuckic and an own goal from our old friend Callum Morris!
29 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:07 PM
would rather him than smith i suppose but if he is going to cost 6 million or whatever, i would prefer to get that ben arfa kid. that is if we are as skint as every one thinks we are.
i do think he is a very good player, but with these new rules then maybe tottenham might want to keep him or at the least will not let him go cheap.
30 howay man // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:08 PM
davis_toon I agree with what your saying I get the idea that this as been a messy window for us, dont get me wrong Im happy with who we have so far but, Obviously the gosling signing wasnt planned and the campbell signing was just a thought that came through. only perch was a signing that we identified from the start and went out and got. That means that hughton should still have a solid idea of who he wants to bring in. personally I am convinced Jamie Ohara is one player he wants, (just a hunch)
31 Captain Beefheart // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:10 PM
Thump@2: Whatever happened to the good old football rattle?
Meanwhile, sonic supporters, I suggest kazoos, swanee whistles, bagpipes, balloons being slowly let down, maybe an air siren or two, mechanical klaxon, hand foghorn, car horn and dinner gong – failing that a comb with a piece of paper does wonders.
PS: All these things are NOT banned.
32 mattnufc // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:19 PM
Vuckic is playing in the reserves tonight. I’m guessing he wont be playing tomorrow?
33 howay man // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:20 PM
@lewman spurs have a squad of 42 players of which 24 are english so i dont think they will have a problem with that, they are sure to let him go for 3-4 million in my opinion, ohara wont want to stay there and be sat on the bench infact I doubt he’d even make the squad, harry doesnt need him whatsoever.
34 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:29 PM
if they sell him for 3 million then i hope we do get him as smith is rubbish and barton is an injury risk i suppose, but i wouldnt spend our whole budget on him if he costs twice that amount.
35 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:29 PM
not that i know what our budget is
36 slazberger // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:31 PM
what about Giovani dos Santos from tottenham? i’m not sure if hes any good, i know he was rated highly when they signed him.
37 howay man // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:38 PM
@slazbuerger its an interesting one that one, dos santos was a regular at BARCELONA and yet cant get a game at spurs and is loaned out to ipswich in his first season in the premier league and some other team last season. personally id rather OHARA but id take dos santos on loan if that was possible
38 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:40 PM
i think he was a bit of a flop at tottenham. i know a couple of spurs supporters who say he is sh1t3.
maybe hes just not cut out for the pl, but barca sold him cheap so they cant of rated him that highly.
39 howay man // Jul 30, 2010 at 9:51 PM

Nufc Reserves 3-0 Gateshead reserves
Goals from -
Nile Ranger
Haris Vuckic
Own goal from former Nufc youngster.
Both Ranger and Haris Vuckic got subbed. Vuckic got off at the half and Ranger got off at 67 minute mark. Hopefully they play tomorrow. There were lots of youngsters in the lineup for eample Phil Nicholsen born in the year 1994.
. It was a perfect start for Peter Beardsley.
Perfect start for Peter Beardsley.
41 lewman // Jul 30, 2010 at 10:09 PM
yilmaz, dont have a clue what hes like other than hes a young striker.but with young players like ozil and mueller in the squad then he probably didnt have much of a chance. heard he is going for 1million euros so not that much of a gamble for someone like mike ashley.

It’s going to be interesting to see who is at left midfeild tommorow with gutierez unavailable and because vuckic played tonight He certainly wont start.
lovenkrands is woefull at left mid In my opinion and joey barton hasnt got a left foot. so its really up for grabs, maybes ryan taylor but again no left foot.
hopefully tommorow we will get shown up at left mid and chris will be shown that someone is needed there for cover, although I think he already knows, well if he doesnt he’s in the wrong proffesion.
Jamie Ohara to join within next 30 days I bet.

Hey thanks a lot m8. If your right about that he will be on the bench tomorrow than I am 100 % confident he will play. Because Chris Hughton said whoever is fit will get a chance but the starters will play a bit longer. Meeting Haris Vuckic is something special. I hope to do that one day. He is the future of our team.
60 baro // Jul 31, 2010 at 4:34 AM
Michael Mancienne is interesting Newcastle United?? He is just 22 years old and can play anywhere at the Defense. Which is what we need if our defenders get injured. But I think Chelsea would be wanting around 4-6 million which I don’t think Chris Hughton would be willing to offer that much for him.

62 eplforecast // Jul 31, 2010 at 5:11 AM
From http://www.eplforecast.com
Chris Hughton will be delighted to add Sol Campbell to his squad for the start of the next season which comes in a couple of weeks, however Campbell will not be able to play against PSV as he is not match fit. Sol only started training this week. Newcastle’s last outing saw them lose against Norwich City 2-1, and the defense of Williamson and Collocini did not look at its best. Hughton has promised Newcastle fans that he will start his strongest lineup against PSV in this Bobby Robson memorial, and will have the services of new signing James Perch and first choice goalkeeper Steve Harper back for the match. Steven Taylor however has been ruled out for three months following a relapse of his long standing shoulder problem. Upfront Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi should be starting for Newcastle United.
Their opponents PSV Eindhoven are in sparking form, being unbeaten in 9 preseason games played so far. The Dutch side are looking to mount a serious title challenge after what was a disappointing last season, where they only managed to finish 3rd and will only participate in Europa League football. PSV are boasting a strong side which are fully fit. I can only see Newcastle managing a draw against PSV, or a PSV win.
Verdict : Take PSV +0.25 Goals (1.80) , Fixed Odds DRAW at (3.30)
Stake : 1-Star = 1% of your bankroll (as with all preseason games)
