Hughton Has Money To Spend – More Players To Arrive

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has money to spend for squad strengthening on Tyneside, and will bring in more players before the end of August.

Chris Hughton – has money to spend

Newcastle have already brought in three players in James Perch, Dan Gosling and Sol Campbell this summer, and Chris Hughton said today:

“We need to make sure that we have a squad that has the depth to cope with the Premier League,” “We still need to strengthen.”

“There is money to bring in more players and we expect to do more business.”

We have a feeling that one of these signings will be fairly big money – well say over £5M, not really big money as we used to spend, and we have to hope that Ben Arfa will be arriving soon.

The 23 year-old Marseilles play-maker has class and will be a big hit at Newcastle.

What do you think?

I certainly hope so Ed and welcome back to SJP 🙂

We certainly need strengthening, I wonder how CH thinks Best, Xisco, Shola and Loven are getting on and whether or not he thinks we need another/different striker.

Hopefully Hatem Ben Arfa will arrive on Tyneside. He would be awesome. Very creative can beat the defense with a trick or two and his speed. We need him. 🙂

I said last night I hoped we’d get shown up at left midfeild and we did, first half I cant remeber danny guthrie tutching the ball in the first half, and xisco I guess did OK.
@baro we do need a winger but I dont think Ben arfa is the answer, we havent replaced pancrate!

I was all for signing Ben Arfa on a permanent but having read some of the other posts on here i have heard he is a bit of a troublesome character. So i now think a loan signing with an option to buy after 12 months will be a better option if he is what people say he is. If we can do that then maybe we can spend fairly big on another player. I’m saying this but i still believe we will struggle to attract a player of this calibre as he has stated that he wants Champions league football.

I’d like to see Whittingham from Cardiff – they are cash-strapped and he was top scorer last season. We need a left footer badly and he can play all the way across midfield or at left back.

Cleverley would be great on loan – it looks like he is better centrally but again he could play across midfield or just off the striker.

Cleverley is a CM. We have enough CM at our club. If we are going to bring in loans than Weiss would be a good option. He is left footed i believe and plays on the wing exactly what we need.

xisco and best might surprise a few people, i for one am the first to admit that i have slated both of them alot, time to give them a chance, hopefully they can step up this season, i think hughton is going to sign a winger and a left back, to fill the 25 man squad, anyone know why barton didnt play today?

toon 1978 I agree weiss would be a better option than cleverly as he can play as a right or left winger, gives us options and is different to what we already have, how about pennant on loan, thoughts??

tavernier looked really good aswell, i was surprised as i have heard very mixed opinions about him. it was odd as the anouncer didnt even mention his name when he came on but his passing and movement was brilliant.
he looked miles ahead of james pearch

Pennant is another tough character that could disrupt the harmony at the club, but still an option i suppose. Ryan Giggs is the perfect role model for any up and coming footballer. Unfortunately we have very few of them about lol. .

Having Ben Arfa’s attitude is the last thing we need,,havent we had enough from Barton,Bowyer vs Dyer,Bellamy etc.

We are becoming like a mental institution ffs.Player i’m looking for is Karim Ziani who in my opinion is definetly a better player than Arfa.

I have only seen Tavernier on a few occasions and i thought he was a poor player but i’m going back to earlier in the year. He seems to be grasping first team opportunities with both hands and good luck to the kid i really do hope he makes it.

I thought stephen hunt, or seb larrson were the perfect type of player to fit in with our current squad, but hunt has gone to wolves, and cant see us going for seb.
And partizan i agree about ziani, he is a top player, but plays champ league football at the minute, so might be hard to get him really

Why can we only play for 45 mins & not the full 90 mins, this seems to have carried from last season. In the championship we got away with it, but in premiership !

yeah lets hope he does toon1978, he seemed like he might do ok as a winger but i suppose i only saw 20 mins or so of him and i have no idea what his shooting is like.

on that ziani, wouldnt he cost about twice as much as ben arfa and he is about 5 years older so i doubt asley would finance that move.

Well,,with Ziani you have a leader in your team, somone who can carry this whole team on his shoulders.

As far as the transfer fee goes,i dont think he would cost more than 8 mill euros.

To you guys talking about Xisco:

I’ve said it before… whoever gets in to SpainU21 has some talent. You guys have to remember that some players take a loooooong time before they adjust to the EPL. And Xisco came to a club in MISERY… He was right in the middle of the Keegan thing…. and then the relegation.

Give him time. We gave Enrique time and now look. Alot of nufc fans said he was rubbish.

I think G-Man means before the Man Utd game. In any case money should be spent carefully, I don’t want us to spend alot of money on a player, say Ben Arfa, and then it turns out his attitude does not fit the team. Do managers have interviews with players before hand? I presume so. Anyway, one thing i’m certain of is Chris will do what’s right for the team.

Heard the rumour of Marcus Pederson coming again. This was backed up by the fact that Graham Carr was in Norway recently, has anyone else heard this/back me up?

I think he’d be a great signing and can cover the wingers perfectly!

its a shame xisco didnt stay last season to establish himself in the team. i recon he’ll get a good run out on tuesday against deportivo.

i agree money should be spent carefully, gaining as much background info on a player before signing

from a few lads i have spoken to that went to watch the match today, they said perch looked very poor, which isnt a good start, considering we play man utd first game of the season, i really think the lad will struggle at prem level, we need luke young or onouha, and then we will have a good strong defence, then just need cover for wings, and maybe another striker

i dont want ben arfa anywhere near newcastle, horrible attitude, and the fact he has gone from a supposed 20m player to around 5m says everything, we do need some flair, but we should look elsewhere

I might be the only person on this blog with this opinion but I’d say a supposed “bad” charachter and attitude in the changing room might not be as bad as people make out. We always hear how the following were bad for the dressing room:

    1) Bellamy
    2) Robert
    3) N’Zogbia
    4) Bowyer

    5) Dyer etc. etc.

Thats 5 players of the era we finished in the top 5 constantly, all it takes is a good man-to-man manager like sir Bobby and I personally believe we have that in Chris. 🙂

I do agree with you coxonfamily, if they are managed well then it shouldn’t matter. All the players have respect for Chris and I would hope that the likes of Sol, Nolan, Smith etc would soon calm Ben Arfa down so that he comes to terms with how to be a ‘team player’.

i reckon a few training sessions down whitly bay in the sea should sort out any attitude problems.

and geordielad your mates are right pearch was rubbish, he made two memorable mistakes the first one being a rash challenge that led to a goal from free kick and the second he just didnt know where to go between the box and corner flag and went around in circles til he lost the ball and then fouled the player to try and get it back.

tavernier looked top class when he replaced him though.
