Chris Hughton seems not too worried about who will be the official Newcastle captain next season.
Chris Hughton -pleased with leadership caliber of his players
And he’s not worried because he seems to be very happy with the caliber of leaders he has at the club, and to Chris picking a captain in those circumstances is not important.
He would be more worried if he has a dearth of leaders in the Newcastle squad, but that happily is not the case:
“For me it’s more important you have players of presence and influence who want to show that on and off the football pitch,” “Would I rather have one outstanding figure or a group you can rely on with some good, strong personalties?”
“I would rather have the latter.”“It’s not a decision I have to make at this moment. I am conscious we are getting to the start of the season and by that time I will have decided. One has to be appointed but for me it’s not an important thing.”
“Some were expecting Campbell to be chosen after joining on a free transfer this week, but Hughton will not parachute in a skipper at the expense of the characters who served him so well in the Championship.”
“We have a lot of players that come into the reckoning,” he said. “He is a player of great experience and one we see as captain material. But in front of Sol there are a lot of other candidates who have been here for a few seasons and been through a lot.”
Kevin Nolan easily won our recent vote for the Newcastle captaincy, and Kevin even said he was not too bothered about the captaincy, but of course he also said he would be honored if he became the Newcastle captain.
He was just concentrating on getting fit and getting a starting place in the team – and that’s exactly what every player should be concentrating on right now.

Comment #1Who is that quoting? If it is Hughton then why does he call himself by his surname?

Comment #2I would like it to be Nolan but will he start when Gosling is fit? Personally, they would be disgraceful together unless they were in a 3-man central midfield. Even then I would want Guthrie and maybe Barton with Gosling so I am not sure Nolan would be captain for too long if he gets it!

Comment #3Give the captain’s armband to a certain Mr Enrique.
