Newcastle Continue Talks For Marseilles’ Hatem Ben Arfa

It seems no secret that Olympique Marseille player Hatem Ben Arfa is a Newcastle target and that the Newcastle club are currently negotiating for the  transfer of the 23 year-old.

Hatem Ben Arfa – talks continue with Marseilles

It has been widely reported that Newcastle are in solid negotiations for the player, and that was hardly diminished when Olympique Marseilles President Jean-Claude Dassier confirmed that talks were indeed ongoing with Newcastle United for their youngster.

The controversial midfielder, who seems difficult to get on with,  and has argued in the past with other players and even his manager, has been made available for the summer transfer market.

His past disciplinary record has put some doubts into the minds of some Newcastle fans, but Chris Hughton has a good record of getting on with his players, gaining their respect,  and getting the very best out of them.

But on the other side of the coin,  this Frenchman is an excellent player,  and is looked on as being one of the French stars of the future.

Dassier was asked yesterday about the negotiations and he curtly replied:

“We must wait and see what happens. The discussions will continue.”

Newcastle have missed out on a loan deal for Tom Cleverley today, but maybe that’s because Ben Arfa is close to coming to Newcastle.

We’ll see.

A player’s attitude would be an issue TBH. Chris needs to get this lad under control

We got to hope he is on his way otherwise missing out on them both would be a very bad blot on an otherwise encouraging window so far

I dont mind a player arguing out of passion for the game, or the team, or winning. But if he argues out of petulance because he didnt get a pass, or his manager wants him to play in a different position, then I would not want him here.

A settled dressing room is what will keep us up next year.

A few websites are reporting that he will join us and they all give their source as Tuttomercato I have translated the site and the latest reads as follows:
More or less tangible goal even Milan and Parma in the last hours the fate of the young talent Olympique Marseille Hatem Ben Arfa (23) seems to have taken the route of the United Kingdom. The playmaker would transalpine fact endorsed the offer of Newcastle United.

Great if he comes as we so desperately need someone with a spark to change a game. We’ had the enfant terrible Robert and that didn’t work out too bad did it.

Can anyone remind me who the young creative Argentinian guy is called. Something like Sosta and available for 3 M ? It’s driving me mad.

If we could get Ben Arfa, Albin and Sosta, very happy days.

PapaToon, I have said the same he does have a look of Robert.

I think it is his attitude which has a)made Marseille want to get rid and b)made it possible that we stand a chance of getting him, otherwise we would have got nowhere near signing a player of his calibre.

I think it is definitely worth the risk.

I’ve got a feeling Chris will get him under control fairly quickly. He’s managed to calm down Joey (stopping the drink probably helped too!), settled the seas with Carroll and S. Taylor and has got the lads competing well against PSV and Deportivo… can’t complain with that, can you?

Assuming he isn’t another N’Zogbia (his own biggest fan), he can be worked and moulded and maybe Chris is just that kind of person. Plus when you’re in a different country, you have no choice but to calm down.

if you translate this it says that ben arfa has his heart set on the premier league and as such us, and that the clubs will agree a deal soon.
whether or not we can believe this is another matter, but all we can do is hope!

players like this are fine until they are told to play differently or are droped to the bench.

i think the squad we have now wont stand for this and put him right if he starts to through his toys out of the pram. if we get him on loan with an option to buy we can always send him back to his club if he starts to disrupt the harmony.

Thanks Lewman, it could be. A few threads back, someone was saying(can’t remember who it was , there was this young, very creative Argentinian lad going for about 3 M.

I thought it was something like Sosta, so could well be this guy Jose Sosa but if he’s at Bayern he would cost a lot more than 3M, I guess,
    especially given his age.

I could go back through all the threads but just hoping someone might remember it.

    Colombus // Aug 3, 2010 at 1:44 AM

We only need 3 more quality signings!

I have said this before and I will say it again: Bring in a new argentinian in Jose Ernesto Sosa who plays for Bayern. I think he would fit right in and he would be available at a good price. He can play on either wing or as a creative midfielder and is excactly what we need. Would be a quality signing!

As for striker I really think we should look towards France, Erding would cost about 7 mill and isnt a bad alternative at all, but I think for 7- 10 we would actually get Asamoah Gyan. I’m surprised that no bigger clubs have come in for him and he would love playing for a crowd like ours. Another brilliant striker in France is Kevin Gameiro.

I also think we should look to strengthen our defensive holder in midfield. Smith is probably gonna get banned all the time because of yellow cards and he just isn’t all that. The perfect replacement/alternative would be Anthony Annan of norwegian Rosenborg. He impressed a lot during the wc and he could be on his way to a “small” club like olympiakos for a fee of 1,5 – 2 mill. Would be coup who would save us many many points next year. Get in!

my 3 signings: Sosa, Gyan, Annan. cost: 12-15 mill.

just tracked back and you are indeed right. Creative Argentinian midfield schemer Jose Sosa at Bayern now available for 3M. Born in 85 so relatively young but with a ton of experience.

Thanks to Colombus for that info.

I think Sosa and Albin would give us the link up play and through balls we desperately need.

i always thought he should track back more. and my point was as soon as the gaffer asked him to do something different or put him on the bench for away games it started to go sour.

i dont think this would be a problem now as he would wedont have a lot of players with egos

ben arfa looks a great player but there are times when he is bogged down and sometimes tries too much and gives the ball away like jonas….his main attribute is his dribbling….he can certainly take on players and has very good ball control…to some degree he has pace but i would say with the ball….and he certainly knows to use his body to sheild the ball…sometimes he just doesnt pass and takes all the players on…hope if he comes that ch can roughen that edege out……he s predominantly left footed player having good range of passing, however uses his right foot sparingly, has an eye for goal..and has a good shot in him…if he comes where is ch gona play him?

Dont know whats so special about Balotelli, for that money you could get:

    Kun Aguero-35 mill
    Milos Krasic-15 mill
    Steven Defour-10 mill
    Onuoha-4 mill

Thats 3 future world class players with 1 top player for the same amount of 1 lousy Balotelli.

Partizan , where the hell have you heard about Annan going to Man utd?

As for you other guys who finally come around about Jose Ernesto Sosa, thank you! 🙂 I still believe he would be magnificient for our team. If Ben Arfa comes, which would be awsome, we could buy Sosa and they would give us excactly what we need! Sosa can play as a right winger and also creatively in the middle. The presumed cost is very low for a talented player like this and I think we should go for him NOW! I have also heard that future french star Kevin Gameiro might be available, now that would be an interesting signing !
