Newcastle Miss Out On Cleverley – Joins Wigan On Loan

Disappointing news this morning that Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley will spend the season on loan at Wigan.

Tom Cleverley – joins Wigan on loan

That’s a bit of a surprise but we have to think one reason Wigan won out is that manager Roberto Martinez could guarantee a start fr the Old Trafford youngster.

However Wigan will be one of those clubs fighting it out with Newcastle next season, so they have gained a good player, just as Newcastle have lost the possibility of having a budding star in their ranks for next season.

Cleverley turns 21 next Thursday,  and has been Newcastle’s number one loan target over the summer, so we’re not sure who might arrive now, although Vladimir Weiss from Manchester City would be good.

Tom certainly impressed on Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States and scored two good goals while over there.

We expected there to be a decision on Cleverley this week, now he was back from the US, but were hoping it would have been Newcastle who were successful.

Oh well – upward and onward.

Not suprised on this. All indicators showed Ferguson demanded 1st team for this lad if on loan. At least he cannot dictate team selection at NUFC. Weiss a better option along with ben Arfa.

Only according to the Daily Mail. According to the Mirror, Bolton are favourites. It’s unbelievable that people still believe what British tabloids say.

Not so bothered – using loan players in the championship was barely acceptable – in the premiership it is completely unacceptable. We shouldnt be building a team for the future using players we know are not going to be there next year.

I’m not disappointed at all. In fact, I’m happy about it.

@Mags: who? Ben Arfa or Weiss?

Agreed. We don’t need to spend our time making players better for Man U. You won’t play a loanee in front of your own youngsters, and if you don’t have a youngster at that position, a transfer is what you need.

i still don’t know how people cant see the benifits of getting loan players.

plus i cant see anything official on this story on the net. if he chooses to go somewhere else then fine thas his decision but if we sign him then i will welcome him to the club.

Well I mark that down as a definite 3 pointer.

It’s painful going cold turkey, boys and girls, so we need to beat this addiction before it begins to rot our youth development program. Always remember our motto, kids:

    LOAN PLAYERS, JUST SAY NO!!!

Hope this is true, cause it would be a huge mistake if he came and needed to play in the 1st team. It is normal that Ferguson wants that, but not in Newcastle.

I do think that this would have been a good loan signings, from what ive seen of pre-season and at watford he really could have done a job for us. Scored a cracker of a goal in the USA.

However, if fergie demanded guarenteed first team football, then we are right not to promise it.

Henri Landsbury i thought looked just as good if not better at watford last season.

Wouldnt mind him, but since SAF wanted first team football, we couldnt promise that with what we already have. Or maybe CH had Ben Arfa arranged. I hope so anyway.

Sky Sports News are saying this morning that Man Utd won’t let Cleverley out on loan this season. The only ones they will send out on loan are Welbeck and Diouf who they say are going to Sunderland (Welbeck) and Blackburn (Diouf).
