Spurs Not Interested In Djalo – But Are Newcastle?

With the news in the last couple of days that Tottenham were the favored club to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Yannick Djalo, Harry Redknapp has today said the London club are not interested in the 24 year-old.

Yannick Djalo – are Newcastle after this player?

Djalo’s agent had said that Tottenham were the favored club to sign the 24 year-old Sporting Lisbon forward, who can play as a striker or out on the wing.

That’s what he wished would have happened.

Harry Redknapp denied Spurs had any interest in the forward by saying:

“It’s not true. He’s a good player but he’s never been in our plans.”

So with Tottenham not even interested in the player, the question becomes are Newcastle after signing this lad for around £4M?

Djalo has been at Sporting Lisbon since 1997, and has appeared 74 times with 17 goals for the Spanish club, and has played for all the Portugal youth sides through Portugal U21 and Portugal B sides.

He was also on loan to Casa Pia from 2005-2006 and appeared there 26 times with 16 goals for the Lisbon-based club.

If Newcastle are interested then the  way would seem clear to get this player on Tyneside.

£2.5m tops, and then send Ranger out to learn how to connect banjos and barn doors in the Fizzy.

Not the best goals/games ratio, apart from a season on loan in 2005 – 2006.

Think Hughton said we weren’t in for him a while back. If he is interested, we can assume that he sees potential rather than form.

We’ve bid for him before and it was turned down .. I think this is now his agent trying to get him into a top of the table team .. ben arfa and Djalo .. nobody will be saying our team is missing pace then .. we still need a left back as cover .. and a speedy tough tackling DM wouldn’t go a miss..

Think it would be better to have a striker who knows the EPL.

@ Ed: You caused real upset in Spain and Portugal, by saying that Sporting Lisbon is a Spanish club ;-). LOL

I hope there’s no truth in this. The guy gets bullied off the ball in Portugal so he would be ripped to shreds over here. He likes to spend too much time on the ball lining up his play, and you get no time on the ball in the Prem.

i’ve been a big fan of djalo since his youth days but he hasn’t rly progressed like i thought he would. One thing that worries me most about him coming is that his style doesn’t fit the epl. For those of you who think he is pacey your a bit off. While he isn’t slow he’s also not very fast. Worst of all he’s methodicle like G said and i think the pace of the epl would eat him alive.
Also he’s struggled the last few years to hold down a starting spot at sporting. If he can’t start there i doubt he’ll be able to come here and set the world on fire…
