Barton And Guthrie Both Start For Newcastle

Chris Hughton is fielding his strongest side to start this afternoon’s game against Glasgow Rangers.

Chris Hughton has named the side that will likely start a week on Monday, against Manchester United, in the first league game of the Premier League.

Andy Carroll is the lone up-front striker, with Kevin Nolan playing just behind Andy, where he played much of last season and scored a terrific 18 goals for the Magpies.

Danny Guthrie and  Joey Barton are in central midfield, but Alan Smith is not even named in the squad, and it could be that Alan is injured.

Fabricio Coloccini will play alongside Mike Williamson in central defense, and as expected James Perch and Jose Enrique are in the full-back spots.

Glasgow Rangers (4-4-2): McGregor; Papac, Weir, Bougherra, Naismith; Broadfoot, Davis, Edu, McCulloch; Miller, Whittaker.
Subs: Alexander (gk), Lafferty, Velicka, McMillan, Little, Shinnie, Wylde, Hutton, Campbell.

Newcastle United (4-5-1): Harper; Perch, Coloccini, Williamson, Enrique; Routledge, Barton, Nolan, Guthrie, Gutierrez; Carroll.
Subs:  Krul (gk), R Taylor, Tavernier, Ferguson, Xisco, Lovenkrands, Ameobi.

we’re playing some good football at the moment, just need a flair player for us to take us up a notch and add a bit more of an attacking threat

i like this line up. Very versitile, and although it’s a bit negative you’ve got players on the bench that can change the formation and the game on a dime. One thing i think CH has done real well so far in his management, is set up the squad to be very flexible, meaning we will always be in games.

    Absolutely no creativity.

Routledge should look at that cross from Whittaker and learn from it. That is how to cross it.

Carroll will never score 10+ goals this season with deliveries like the ones so far today. Other than that corner of course.

Rangers are nothing more than a championship team, but they look better than us in the final third…..

Nowt up front, no creativity. Not one cross has beat the first man. Please spent some brass Ashley.

If we had a “Beckham-style” wide man, Carroll would score so many from crosses. Routledge and Jonas are two of the worst crossers of the ball I’ve ever seen.

Barton’s had a good game so far.

We need to learn how to cross a ball.

Carroll; okay the crosses are bad, but every time he is 2 steps too late; he is CC level like I said before. So take him off and play Best.

We haven’t got any creativity in our team (I also said this when they played Depor).

Barton and Guthrie as our central midfield just is not enough. We need a CDM and a creative player.

Defence looks okay, as it was Routledge who defended really bad for that cross.

Smith and Best have injuries- don’t we need Smith to shore up the defence? Gers have had the ball in the net twice already. Can someone remind Perch he’s supposed to be in defence?

i wondered how long it would take before it was all ashleys fault.

i think we have been by for the better team this half but just need to get the ball past the first defender.

It will be even worse after the manure game. Of course its ASHLEYS bloody fault. He needs to spend some money mannn, how many CC have went up, spent nothing and went back down, think about that one?????????

slaz 24 agree, Smith lmao nah don’t think so. We’ve done well and some good play at times. Kept the ball well at times and looked like they were really enjoying knocking the ball around.

Beaten by the suckerpunch, the likes of Man U, Arsenal etc. will do exactly the same, amazing what a little bit of class will do.

Jonas still looks a little off the pace, another 10 mins then change him imo, maybe Loven.

When did i say we will beat manure mannnnn. To survive in the epl we need some quality on the wings and up front. If you are happy with what we have then that up to you. That team is not good enough most people can see that if you can’t then you are blind. We did not stay up with Martins, Owen, Viduka, Bassong and Beye playing for us. We are weaker now then when we were last in the Premiership.
