Hughton Wants At Least Two More Players In At Newcastle

It’s obvious to most observers after yesterday’s 2-1 defeat at Ibrox,  that Newcastle must strengthen in midfield and up front before the end of the transfer window.

Chris Hughton – wants at least two more players in before end of August

And it’s not surprising there are rumors today linking us again with Hatem Ben Arfa, the French 23 year-old winger who was called into the full French squad last week.

Chris talked yesterday about the transfer market:

“Regarding anything definite from our side, that would not be the case at the moment.”

“We are aware of the rumours and other things at this time of year, but until we have players playing for us then they remain that – rumors.”

In the Sunday Sun today one report is Newcastle must increase their loan offer to close to £1M to secure the player’s services for the full season.

That’s about how much we paid for Nacho Gonzalez, the Uruguayan International – who played in the first game in South Africa,  but never appeared again.

That was two years ago, and Nacho arrived on the last day of the transfer market with Xisco, and was brought in by Dennis Wise, but without manager Kevin Keegan’s knowledge or approval.

But of course Nacho ended up making just two appearances for Newcastle,  via short sub appearances, before  sustaining an Achilles tendon injury and we have to hope if loan deals are arranged this summer,  Newcastle put some clause in the contract to return the player if he sustains a long term injury.

Chris apparently wants to add at least  two more players to his squad before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month and continued:

“We are always hoping – it is not a case of us not working on it.” “We are in the same boat as a lot of other teams in that we are trying to bring in the right players at the right price.”

“I expect activity from most clubs in this next few weeks but everyone is vying for time a little bit.”

Things should start to move big time in the transfer market with just 23 days to go – and it would be nice if Newcastle can get a player through the door this week – that would be very good.

Comments welcome.

you say that as if chris is responsible for any of the negotiations, which he won’t be.

he’ll have presented a list of names to llambsarse, or someone else higher up and then theyre the ones who will go after the players, with hughton just keeping tabs on how things are progressing.

not many players have moved this summer so far, it’s been a very quiet transfer window, but as usual, you can expect it to hot up by the time it gets to the last few days.

newcastle are rumoured to be targeting mancienne, i really think he is a decent player, but other positions are more a priority, we need another winger!! And a decent right back!

Mancienne would be a good signing, but i think we need a backup for Enrique, another winger (Ben Arfa) and a striker, and get rid of smith, and get in a decent holding midfielder

well in my opinion mancienne plays best as a holding midfielder, i like him as a player and is the right age, but like you say we need a winger and a striker, i dont think we need a left back, kadar can cover enrique

yeah, i wanted him when we where linked a few seasons back, he’s very versatile, i always forget about Kadar, but definatly a striker to play alongside Carroll, perhaps Vela on loan

Hughton has getting this club back up to the EPL and yet Ashley still refuses to release funds. The bloke made massive profits but nothing can persuade this scrooge to spend. Ashley might as well blind fold him and tie his hands behind his back and stick him in a mine field and tell him to get on with it. All commentators and pundits are saying the same thing “money must be spent”. We are well off for Goal keepers and midfielders and to be fair strikers as well but lack the quality. We need a wide man to get to the byline an whip the crosses in on a regular basis and to beat the first bloody man. If we get them crosses in on a regular basis then i believe Carroll with be on the end of 90% of the crosses and clocking up goals left right and centre as he is excellent in the air. If we bring in someone with pace to play alongside Carroll then we have someone to run past the oppositions defence with the through ball to slot home someone like Bellamy lol. Anyway enough of this day dreaming.

if someone said to me you can take finishing 16th or 17th in league now, i would take it, we are seriously going to struggle this season, we dont have pace in our side at all, and thats the massive difference between the fizzy and prem,

We really do need a midfield quality playmaker – what used to be called an “intelligent” and we do need a skilfull quality winger as well. Nice to know CH is now saying what we have all been on about since the end of last season. Trouble is the fat man without a birth certificate is not listening. He is not forking out. I bet his arse squeaks when he walks as well!!!

Controversy arose again following Marseille’s embarrassing 4–2 loss to Le Classique rivals Paris-Saint Germain. He drew the ire of manager Eric Gerets after his refusal to leave the bench to warm up. Ben Arfa later said he was injured much to the chagrin of Gerets, but later apologized for the incident to the media and Gerets himself.[33] Upon his return to the squad, Ben Arfa responded by scoring a goal and providing the assists on both the other goals in a 3–1 victory over Saint-Étienne.[34]

Controversy surfaced again, however, when, on 8 October 2009, Ben Arfa was fined €10,000 by the club for missing a training session. Ben Arfa blamed the absence on airport delays as he was in Tunisia visiting family members during the international break.[37] A month later, on 18 November, he got into a heated argument with manager Didier Deschamps during a training session, for which Ben Arfa later apologized.[38][39] Under Deschamps in the first half of the season, Ben Arfa appeared in 15 of the club’s 20 league matches and only played the full 90 minutes in two matches, a 2–1 defeat against Monaco and a 2–0 defeat to Auxerre.[40][41]

this lad has a serious attitude problem!!!!!!

Ben Arfa’s close ball control is absolute world class and his passing it good as well. His temperament however lets him down. If he sorts that out then he will go onto better things, like coming to NUFC and being a geordie hero lol 🙂

I understand your point geordielad 880 but
i had this discussion with my mate from Marsielle and he said the problem Ben Arfa has had is Deschamps, who apparently has an ego which leaves no room for anyone elses and that ben arfa himself is more imature and silly that plain arrogant. But my friend also says everyone in france knows that he is the most technically gifted player in france by a mile as for him having one foot Arjen robben is a one footed player and he still rips the best defences so if he is good enough he will do well.

agreed i dont know much about his crossing but from what ive seen he often cuts inside so he can just pass the ball to feet. i reckon his skillls alone would make watching our team alot more enjoyable at times and maybe one day we could get our entertainers tag back.

lewman its someone who can cross that we need, otherwise there is not much point in playing carroll, he thrives on crosses not balls into feet, we need someone who can get to the byline and gets crosses in the box, would love to have bentley 🙂 im not saying ben arfa isnt a class player, but if we got him i would play him in a free role, playing off carroll, he is best when he is allowed to roam

if newcastle has a reasonable amount of money available say around 30-40m you could make a very good side, you dont need to spend silly money like man city, but we can only dream about having that much lol.

toon1978 its a canny side, i have said for ages we are only 3-4 players from a good team, we need a couple of players to strengthen the starting 11 and a couple of players to strengthen the squad depth, i still say ambrose and p.whittingham would have been great signings to add some depth to the squad in wide areas, and wouldnt have cost alot at all, its better than having to play guthrie on the right/left if we have injuries, cos he is terrible when he plays there

Guthrie will never be a winger as long as he has a hole in his ar2e. Whittingham is a very good player, shame we did not pick him up. Ambrose, not 100% sure as he has played in the EPL before and seemed out of his depth. CC is about the correct level for him and the same the same for Ameobi,R.Taylor,Best.

    Aug 8, 2010 at 2:05 PM

I put ambrose in the same league as routledge, better than CC but not top level prem, routledges final ball lets him down, im surprised newcastle never went after m.g. pedersen from blackburn, cos he was available on a free before he recently signed a new contract. Agreed on shola, taylor and best, and i would add simpson, perch and smith to that, everyones keeps saying to me give perch time, i had seen plenty of him before we signed him, he had one good game against us, and everyone thinks he is good, his positional sense is awful, he gets sucked into the ball too easily, and he is very rash aswell,

Let’s hold our breath, Ben Arfa would be magical! Now all we need for our offense is a versatile Jose Ernesto Sosa and a pacy striker. I think Albin would be a good choice if we don’t have the cash.

Ben Arfa (loan, with optiton to buy) Jose Ernesto Sosa (3-4 mill) and Juan Albin (free agent). That’s three bargain quality signings with pace, creativity and flair!
