There are rumors, and that’s all they are at the moment, that Newcastle United may be interested in putting in a bid for Portsmouth attacking midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng.
Kevin Prince Boateng – Newcastle interested?
Boateng, who is just 23, had a good World Cup for Ghana, and is already a target for Serie A sides Genoa and Lazio.
Portsmouth are in terrible financial health, and only last Thursday won a High Court ruling in a case against HM Revenue & Customs. that saved the south coast club from going bankrupt.
And it’s not surprising that they are waiting to see who offers the best deal for their Ghana International, who certainly fits the Mike Ashley profile of players he wants – a good young player who can improve further at Newcastle.
Boateng may elect to remain in the English Premier League if given the chance, and after Saturday’s defeat at Rangers it’s clear Newcastle must recruit more creative midfield players to their ranks before the end of August.
Chris Hughton is after bargain deals (aren’t we all), and Boateng could be bought outright for around £5M, and that would be great business for the Tyneside club.
The youngster didn’t come through at Spurs, having been signed from Hertha BSC in 2007, but the German-born player, whose brother Jerome actually plays for Germany, had a very decent season at Portsmouth and looked a good player in the World Cup.
We’re not sure if there’s any truth in these rumors, but Boateng would be a good buy for Newcastle, before the end of August.
Boateng has played 6 times for the German U21 side and 6 times for Ghana.
