The Premier League clubs have to provide a list of 25 players for their first team squad, and Steven Taylor may not be in that list for Newcastle, according to a report in yesterday’s People.
Steven Taylor – not included in Magpies’ 25 man squad?
The former England Under-21 captain is expected to be out of action up to 10 weeks with his dislocated shoulder, which he sustained in his first match back at Carlisle United two weeks ago, after being out with a knee ligament injury since last January.
Newcastle commented on Taylor’s injury last week saying the 24 year-old defender would be out for up to three months, and the People (yes it’s Alan Oliver) says Newcastle may loan the player out for November and December, to prove his fitness following his recovery.
They go on to say Taylor would be devastated by that – but we think that’s a little ludicrous to suggest such a course of action for a loyal player – but it is true that Steven still hasn’t signed his new contract, but we’re hoping that’s just a matter of time.
Steven’s current contract runs out at the end of the season, and we’re quite confident Taylor will commit his future to his local Tyneside club, the only club he’s ever wanted to play for.
So this may sound a little startling to Newcastle fans, that Steven will not be included in the 25 man list, but we just don’t think that will happen.
We’ll put it down to Sunday paper sensational headline syndrome.
