There doesn’t really seem to be too much new news coming through today on the situation with Marseilles player Ben Arfa arriving on loan at Newcastle.
Ben Arfa – Newcastle deal still in the offing
The Newcastle Journal had reported that the two clubs had reached agreement yesterday but apparently Marseilles President Jean-Claude Dassier yesterday went back on his weekend assertion that a deal had indeed been agreed.
That doesn’t sound good at all.
Reports in the French paper L’Equipe however has confirmed The Journal’s story, but they have also been way off the mark sometimes this summer.
Dassier told Marseille’s official TV station yesterday:
“Newcastle are interested but, as of today, no agreement has been concluded.”
That could also mean that the player has yet to agree terms, which was part of the Journal story yesterday – and therefore a total deal has not yet been agreed.
Newcastle seem to want to only do the right deals this summer, and will not be harried and rushed into overpaying for players, which the Newcastle club has been so famous for over the last 15 years.
Chris said today:
“It’s trying to bring the right player in at the right price,”
As we warned yesterday, the deal is not done until announced on the Newcastle United web-site, however, we are still very hopeful this deal can indeed be signed, sealed and delivered.

I’m really thinking the same thing? Why not just offer Ben Arfa the 6 million they want and tak’em. Forget Erding, even though he is a terrific player.

Comment #45Reason they want him to stay is because they are defending French champs and lost their first match of season at home to a newly promoted caen team. Arfa came on and really turned things around setting up a goal to tie the game. Plus this guy should play hard this season since he can be a big part of Frances euro 12 bid
