Ben Arfa A No Show At Meeting With Marseilles Manager

After the blow-up yesterday, when Hatem Ben Arfa was told his club would not be accepting a loan offer from Newcastle United for this coming season, it appears the French International has missed training for a second day running.

Ben Arfa – misses meeting with Marseilles manager Didier Deschamps

And there is a report today on the website of  the respected French newspaper L’Equipe, that the 23 year-old has also failed to show up for a meeting with Marseilles manager Didier Deschamps this morning.

The news is the player is now expected to be fined by his club – assuming they can find where he is, of course.

It does seem like Ben Arfa is determined to play for Newcastle United  next season, and we all know  it becomes very difficult for clubs to keep an unhappy player, because his discontent has a bad influence on the other players.

After playing for France on Wednesday evening in their 2-1 defeat against Norway, when he scored his country’s only goal,  the youngster had not been expected to play in Saturday’s match against Valenciennes – but he will certainly not play now.

We’ll bring you the next chapter of this ongoing story of mystery and intrigue – when it unfolds.

If, by some miracle, we do sign him, I do hope he isn’t going to behave like this when he decides he doesn’t want to play for us anymore.

Having said that, N’Zogbia was a royal pain in the ass (cut from a similar mould), but he was awesome at times. Maybe we can put up with this lad’s nonsense until the Scouse gang get him settled….

I like a player with attitude and it shows just how badly he wants to play for the Toon Can’t be arsed with the “he’ll disrupt the dressing room harmony blah blah” brigade. All the best players are single minded.

    Go arga go.

I wonder whatnsommnia told him at eh recent international. Not very complementary to the mangement at the toon I bet.

So perhaps another opportunity missed. Or what is another one of fatarses masterplans ot get the shirts and tickets out of hte door – we havge probable spent more on new shirts that the 1.5m he has spent

I think OM are a disgrace of a club and i think their president needs a good talking to for his rash comments. No need what so ever. Arrogance beyond measure. Just because they won the French league they think they can treat other clubs with no respect. I for one will always frown upon that club OM. OM are a nothing club compared to R.Madrid,Barcelona,AC,Manure,Chelsea,Inter. I know NUFC are not the club they once were but i do not take to well to some stuck up prick having a poke at our club.

yeah we have got no chance, surely his wages have got to be pretty high aswell, does ashley not realise how much money out of extra ticket sales and merchandise he would make alone, every club has to have a big player, enrique is our best player by miles, i wouldnt sell him at any price

I still have some hope of signing this guy… might be a trick from OM to get more money out of the deal.. clubs may do or say the strangest things to squeeze out all they can.

Ben Arfa’s acting out now may help;) go Arfa. Be the brat you are and force ur way to us! 😀

Ben Arfa should not be behaving the way he is but his club have messed him about quite a lot however that does not give him the right to miss training or refuse to turn up for a meeting. Both club and player are behaving unprofessional. I would like us to sign Arfa but if he does come Hughton needs to explain that behaviour like this will not be tolerated.

he did the say at lyon when he moved to OM, lyon said they wouldnt sell, and then he just started training with OM against lyon’s wishes, lyon just gave up in the end.

La Provence later reported that Ben Arfa had in fact missed training in Lyon on 30 June, confirming his intentions.
Hatem Ben Ara in the Coupe de la Ligue
Ben Arfa taking on Bordeaux defender Matthieu Chalmé.

Ben Arfa officially joined Marseille on 1 July 2008 for €11 million, with future incentives to be included later, after an agreement was reached between Marseille and Lyon in a meeting organized by the LFP. As a result of the disagreement over the transfer, in December 2008, Ben Arfa told the local Lyon paper Le Progrès that his former team lacked class and was not a great team.Ben Arfa was presented to the media and had his first training session with the club the same day. He was given the number 20 shirt. On 16 July, Ben Arfa was involved in another training session bust-up, this time with stiker and France international Djibril Cissé. Cissé later joined English club Sunderland on loan.

Ben Arfa made his league debut on the opening day of the season in a thrilling 4–4 draw with Rennes. He scored his first goal for the Marseilles in that match. He continued in great form scoring 6 times in his first 11 matches. However, his reputation for controversy continued to haunt him when he was involved in another dispute, this time with the Cameroon international Modeste M’bami during a warm up session ahead of the club’s UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool. The two had to be separated by Ronald Zubar. Controversy arose again following Marseille’s embarrassing 4–2 loss to Le Classique rivals Paris-Saint Germain. He drew the ire of manager Eric Gerets after his refusal to leave the bench to warm up.

i think this reaction by HBA is a brave one. He put the effort in to their opening game in the few minutes he played and said all the right things only to be messed about by D’tosser. I think this was the final straw in an already strained relationship, and HBA has said “enough”.
D’tosser’s comments on CH not being in step with the board came as an answer to a question of why CH was seemingly denying interest. Of corse we know that that was just CH playing coy, as per usual.
D’tosser’s comments about bad choices was not aimed at newcastle but HBA, saying that it would be a bad choice for HBA to boycott the club until a deal was made, because he would be heavily fined for time missed in a long dragged out negotiation.
D’tosser has proved to be more childish than can be believed and hence may show signs to the possibility that HBA’s poor attitude tag is poorly placed, as a result of circumstance and not his actual character.
Either way i don’t see a HBA deal happening until the last minute or D’tosser is removed. Don’t see how you can remove a guy who’s just won the league so 2 weeks it is… Thats a lot of quid…

@geordielad880 (7): I think you need to read what he said.

Of course we aren’t the same force we used to be, but did you notice the past tense? “It WAS a great club and it HAD a great history” – we don’t have a beautiful history any more because we won’t play his childish, selfish games?

F**k that man, he deserves nothing but a slap.

@JerseyGeordie: This has nothing to do with D’Champs as much as it is Dassier. I do agree that maybe this is all to do with circumstance rather than general attitude, although I will also say that there are better ways of dealing with things rather than booking a flight to NCL International.

Just got a text from my mate who works for the owner of Blu Bambu in the Bigg Market (making him tea and all that – it’s right above the bar). Supposedly Ben Arfa’s just been in and set about some lad for getting gobby. Shortly afterwards Andy Carroll, Joey Barton and Elton John all arrived at the hotel HBA is staying at in shell suits to try and talk him down and that his behaviour is out of order.

Not sure what to make of that, to be honest.

I think he means we arent a big club anymore, and we are nothing basically, I agree he deserves a slap, because he shouldnt be talking about newcastle anyways, we have been decent and havent commented on the situation at all in regards to OM, its between the two clubs and all dealings should be in private
