Chris Hughton is still working hard to bring in new players to Newcastle before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Chris Hughton – still very hopeful of new players arriving
While Newcastle have come to a halt with the Ben Arfa deal, at least at the moment, they are very sensibly refusing to get into a war of words about the deal with the Marseilles club, and are at least showing a bit of class.
And indeed, Newcastle are still said to be quietly confident of closing that particular deal, which is interesting news indeed.
Hughton is also working hard on other targets on his list and he has told the Newcastle fans the club is still pushing for new arrivals:
“We’re still pushing, we’re in it with most clubs and it is quite difficult to get the players you want at the price you want in the present market.”
“I’m still very, very hopeful of bringing players in before the window shuts.”
And as we reported on a couple of days back, Newcastle are giving a trial to 17 year-old former Chelsea left-sided player Billy Knott, who played for the Newcastle Reserves side against St Mirren in a 2-2 draw this week.
“He’s a young lad who is just on trial with us.” “We have got a couple at the moment. They’re not around the first team at the moment, but we’ll see.”
We’d like to see some more youngsters come into the club this summer, and Billy would be a great addition to the Newcastle youth ranks, with little downside and a whole lot of upside to that particular player.
