Hughton Talks About Newcastle Fans – Those Great People

Chris Hughton knows very well the Newcastle fans are a huge part of the Newcastle United mystique, as a football club.

This is the Newcastle United Football Club

Just to give one example – if  Ben Arfa is ever spotted in the Newcastle City Center this weekend, there will be absolutely no doubt left in the mind of the 23 year-old play-maker that this is the club for him.

Chris believes Newcastle will see a continuation of the incredible fan backing which resulted in Newcastle winning the Coca Cola Championship easily, and have gained fame throughout the world for the Newcastle United club – believe us on that one.

And of course Newcastle attracted a crowd of 6,000 just to see the lads training at St. James’ Park earlier this week.

Chris talked about the Newcastle fans today:

“We have fans who are prepared to travel anywhere to see their team .” “The players really do appreciate that.” “We had fans in just one week who went to La Coruna, Luton and Glasgow – that epitomises these great people.”

“The players want to make sure they put on a performance for the fans and their own pride at playing for this club.”  “It can be hard for any team to come here in front of a full house. That is something we want to continue.”

“Last season we did not lose a game at home and that shows you how much a factor this crowd is.”   “It will be harder this season, but we know the home games will be vital for us.”

“Ideally we wanted a home start, but it will be great to see a full house for the Aston Villa game and we will be looking to get off to the right start.”

Good words from Chris Hughton,  who continues to gain support on Tyneside for his common sense, passionate  and down-to-earth handling of the Newcastle club over the last 13 months.

It’s all good and well having the fans, but we need the players to do a good job!

Watching the City v Spurs game now… I’m not being negative, but we’ll get ripped apart by both of these teams, they look unreal! Quality game of football so far, really open and attacking!

For this season, realistically, we have to forget the games against the top 6/7 teams, (hope for the odd point here and there) and make sure we’re comprehensive and efficiient against the lower table teams.

Spurs should be ahead if it wasn’t for Hart in goal. I agree that we’ll probably struggle against these 2 teams.

there is no probably, they will stuff us, we dont have the pace to cope with them, they would run hus ragged. They are talking about newcastle on skysports news now, saying we arent the club we were, they are saying we arent spending money incase we go down, we are keeping the cash, and 17th will be a good season for us

the club are keeping the cash, incase we go down, but that would be why we go down, because we havent spent the cash, 3-4 decent signings, and no way would be go down, i think if we had spent 10m on two cash signings, and 2 players on loan, and sol campbell, and gosling, we would have a decent mid table side

Phil Thompson has just said on soccer saturday Newcastle look like a club who are planning for going back to the Championship. Not committing any funds or taking any risks. Just like the likes of WBA have done in the past.

To be fair, which teams are spending money – Teams who are out of our league and Stoke…If we get Ben Arfa and a LB/RB we’ll have had a good transfer period in my opinion!

we dont need a left back, we have kadar as cover, we need a right back, cos all the ones we have are poor, a winger and a striker

I don’t agree about prepairing to go back down, it’s just Ashley being tight (careful!) and gambling with our status in the prem. Maybe a couple of signings and not too many injuries and we could be ok.

Mactoon I agree, i dont think he is planning on the possible, i think he is thinking what is the mininum we can spend to stay up in the EPL, the rest will cover the losses from last two seasons, nothing to stop us getting 2 good players on loan at a cost of 2m in loan fees and then wages

Aston Villa, Totenham, Villa pay less than 10m. Did they prepare for relegation ? What the idiot concept they are.

Mmm, so we won’t be able to compete with 2 of the biggest spenders in premier league history.

I’m so pleased somebody pointed that out because I would never have worked it out for myself.

Spending £10/20 million + wages might give us a better chance of staying-up, but what would happen if we spend money (that we don’t have) & we get relegated? I don’t know whats happening with transfers but I still think we’ll see a couple in before the end of the month.

well if we had signed sol campbell, gosling, beckford on free’s, and got onouha and ben arfa or weiss on loan, we would have only paid 2 loan fees and would be alot better off than we are now

you dont have to spend much at all, 2 loans and a few free transfers would have been sufficient, newcastle shouldnt be even thinking about relegation, not the size of this club, well thats my opinion

Some damnedly strange comments on here. Villa & Spurs both have top rate squads and years of continuous Prem experience so no need to spend BIG. By contrast we dismantled our already shaky relegated Prem squad last summer, remember(?), and propped up those remaining shell-shocked fizzy standard heroes with loans (PVA, Harewood, Simpson, One-Size, Pancake) and panic buys (Best, Simpson again) and the occasional gem (Routledge)..

Now, the starter question for 3 points, how can that constitute a solid Prem squad; or have I missed something here….? No, didn’t think so.

So that is why we need to re-invest in the level of resources we had to shed last year, and more, to ensure this team is better than the one that went down. And before anyone starts riposting with any line containing ‘team spirit’, ‘bleeds black and white’, ‘financial prudence’ or ‘pride’ save it up until we are propping up the table.

The net loss on being relegated – especially if we don’t bounce back – will a damned sight more than £10-£15m currently needed. And January is too late to do anything about it, so it’s now (ie next 15 days) or never. And if players get a sniff of how bad we are (like losing 4-0 against Man U then 2-0 at home to Villa), we can kiss goodbye to many potential purchases including Arfa.

Why don’t owners have to pass a FIFA exam as well as managers?
