Kevin Nolan Named New Newcastle Captain

Kevin Nolan has today been appointed the new Newcatsle United captain.

Kevin Nolan – new Newcastle United captain

Kevin was the overwhelming winner on our vote for Newcastle captain some time ago, getting 63.4% of the votes, beating out Steven Taylor who was second with just 16.4% – and it’s not much of a surprise that Chris has named him Newcastle captain.

Nolan of course was captain at Bolton Wanderers earlier in his career and did an excellent job there under Sam Allardyce.

Nolan said today:

“It really is an honour to be made captain of a club like Newcastle United and I’m delighted to have been given the responsibility.” “I spent three seasons as captain of Bolton which was a great experience, and I’m delighted to now be captaining this famous club.”

“I had a taste of it last season when I wore the armband for a couple of games towards the end of the campaign, but to do so on a regular basis will be a special feeling.”

“We have a great set of lads here and I’m relishing the prospect of leading them out this season – and together we can hopefully achieve what we want to this season.”

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is also delighted with his appointment, and of course we have lots of leaders already in the team, but Kevin gets the nod over players like Alan Smith, Joey Barton and Fabricio Coloccini, and even new arrival Sol Campbell

Chris said today:

“What we have at the club are a lot of big personalities, and there were a number of possibilities for the role of club captain.”

“We have a lot of characters and a lot of leaders.” “But of course, we’re all aware of what an honor it is to wear the armband and Kevin will, I am sure, make a great captain.”

“Both he and Alan Smith have a big role to play for us both on and off the pitch and that’s a continuation of what they both did last season in what was a great campaign.”

It’s a good appointment by Chris – we’re just not sure why it took so long.

While Nolan did very well last season, I think this may be a dangerous move as it makes him virtually undroppable.

I don’t think he has the pace to be as successful as an auxiliary striker in the premiership in a 4-5-1 formation, nor does he possess the creative qualities required if further withdrawn and he is not a defensive midfielder either.

Was hoping Arevalo would herald the end of Smith and his £60 a week wages !

at the moment Mike Ashley has the ball with an open goal, he has the chance to end a massive chunk of the bad felling held against him, does he kick 5-6 mil at it or does he miss this open goal and wait until we have a bad spell, and everyone saying it’s his fault, he’s not going to get a better chance to make up for the mistakes of the past

    Thoroughly well deserved!

Although I agree it may make it more difficult to drop him I can;t think of anyone else I’d prefer as captain.

Good stuff. Hopefully it will get the very best out of him in the Premiership.

He absolutely loves NUFC now. You can see it every time he talks to the press and walks on to our hallowed pitch and I’m more than happy he’s been rewarded for that.

Bring Back Butt all is forgiven.
Nolan will be awful this year he was shocking for the last 18 months of his contract with Bolton (way out of his depth).
Fizzy Pop player-who found his level last season.

by no stretch of imagination does this mean nolan is undroppable. smith and butt both were vice captain and captain last year, yet there were many times when the both of them were kept on the bench.

I think Kevin Nolan really deserves the captain role.
