Barton And Smith Start – Owen Not Even Substitute

As expected Andy Carroll will be the lone striker up front tonight at Old Trafford, against the Red Devils.

Andy will get some support from captain Kevin Nolan in the expected 4-5-1 formation, with Kevin pushing up as a deep striker – a role he played many times last season.

And Alan Smith comes in against his old club as Danny Guthrie has a minor knee injury, picked up a couple of days ago in training.

Joey Barton will be in central midfield as expected, and we are looking for a very good game from the Liverpudlian tonight.

As expected James Perch gets the right-back position over Ryan Taylor, and will be amkien his official first team debut tonight, and Newcastle have three of their youngsters Haris Vuckic, Nile Ranger and James Tavernier on the bench.

There are no real surprises with the Newcastle side.

Howay The Lads – let’s show them what we’re made of!!

TEAMS:

Michael Owen is not in the Red Devils squad.

Manchester United: Van der Sar; O’Shea, Vidic, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Fletcher, Scholes, Nani; Berbatov, Rooney.
Subs:Kuszczak, Rafael Da Silva, Smalling, Carrick, Giggs, Macheda, Hernandez.

Newcastle United: Steve Harper, James Perch, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini, Jonas Enrique, Wayne Routledge, Alan Smith, Joey Barton, Jonas Gutierrez, Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll.
Subs: Ryan Taylor, Xisco, Shola Ameobi, Tim Krul, Haris Vuckic, Nile Ranger, James Tavernier.

Referee: C Foy

Well a five man mf is as expected and shame about Guthrie, kinda shows how thin our squad is in parts and it’s only 1st game!

Anyway, can’t wait for kick off.

Hearing Newcastle back at Old Trafford is giving me shivers. 60 odd thousand clapping and cheering, and all you can hear is the Geordies.

Fergie and Chrissy boy walking out of the tunnel arm in arm – nice to see.

    HOWAY THE LADS!

Barton has started well. Hopefully he shows some of that stuff that gave him the start with England.

Perch is out of his league.

pressure starting to build – hope we can hold on till half time. Get some of those on yellows off to save the red cards that are inevitable for the away team at OT
