Well there’s certainly lots and lots of news this morning on Newcastle United, and in the Daily Mail a report that the Tyneside club are very close to signing recently capped Feyenoord midfielder Leroy Fer.
Leroy Fer – top 20 year-old Netherlands International
The news suggests the Newcastle club is close to actually wrapping up the deal, and the boy is nicknamed De Uitsmijter – The Bouncer because of his powerful physique. Fer stands 6’2″ tall and plays in central midfield, and this would appear to be a great signing for the Newcastle club, if they can indeed pull it off.
Newcastle are said to have already made one bid which has been rejected, but are now ready to follow up with an improved offer for the budding star.
Newcastle are helped by the fact that the Feyenoord club are in big debt (what’s new?), and are under some considerable pressure from their bank, to raise cash from player sales.
The £4M-rated Fer, is young at just 20 years old, and made his very first appearance for Holland’s senior International side as a substitute in last week’s 1-1 draw with the Ukraine.
Fer made his first team debut at Feyenoord when he was just 17 years old, back in 2007, and he has since scored 9 goals in 76 appearances for the Dutch giants.
He has played for all the Netherlands Youth sides, and is now a full International with many years seemingly ahead of him, in the famous orange colors of the Dutch – the beaten finalists in this year’s World Cup.
Fer was a recent target of Everton, but the Liverpool club cooled their interest once they were able to hold onto Spaniard Mikel Arteta.
Newcastle are said to be in the driving seat for a great young player whom Dutch Under 21 coach Cor Pot has already compared to the great French midfielder Patrick Vieira.
