Newcastle Linked With Five New Players Today

Chris Hughton has been trying very hard to bolster his Newcastle squad over the last week, and there are reports that Newcastle are after several players.

Chris Hughton – trying hard to being in new players

Chris has had to admit that August has been a hectic time for him, as he has had to train the squad and get them ready for their pre-season warm-up games, while also spending time on the important  transfer front.

Chris does of course get lots of help from other officials at the Newcastle club on that transfer side of things, who deal with fees, wages and the like.

Chris tried to ensure fans today that he is still trying hard to bring in new players to the club, as he said:

“We’re working very hard.” “It’s my intention to bring players in, of course.”“We we will continue to strive towards that.”

There is every chance that Newcastle can sign 23 year-old Marseilles midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa this week, after things have been allowed to calm down a little over the weekend – but an end needs to be brought to this bizarre saga.

And Newcastle have been linked today with being close to signing 20 year-old top young Dutch International central midfielder Leroy Fer, from Feyenoord – and that would seem like a terrific signing for the club, if indeed Newcastle can seal the deal.

Newcastle have also been linked with 22 year-old Algerian center-back Rafik Halliche, who is due to have a medical for Fulham in London today, before a proposed £1.3M move to Craven Cottage – but Newcastle are said to be trying to sign Halliche themselves.

And Newcastle have said to have approached the Everton club about signing their young 22 year-old forward Victor Anichebe.

Finally, there are also reports in Majorca that claim that Newcastle have made a bid for 27 year-old Real Mallorca and Guinea striker Alhasane Keita – but surely the 5’6″ striker is a little old to bring to Tyneside – but we’ll see.

The good thing is that many of these players are very good, and signing say three from these five would be good business for the Newcastle club.

Comments welcome.

It seems Hughton has hung his hat on Ben Arfa and the saga will hopefully conclude very shortly with the outcome being that he ends up a Newcastle player. As for other potential targets I can see us only bringing one extra player (in addition to Ben Arfa, assuming he joins) I think a defender is perhaps required most. The general consensus is that we need cover for Enrique. Colocinni came on and played left back for Argentina the other night so perhaps thats one option we could look at. James Perch has looked distinctly average. I bumped into Mike Williamson in sainsburys the other week. I asked him what Perch was like and he said, in quite a negative tone I may add “he’s alright, not too bad”.. We actually both laughed as my expression clearly demonstrated my surprise at such a direct and underwhelming endorsement.
Id actually prefer to go with Ryan Taylor tonight. The rest of the team picks itself. Perhaps he has a decision to make regading Guthrie or Smith. I’d imagine he will plump for Smith.
In regards to Ben Arfa, I was thinking. who was the last player we signed who got me excited?… Probably Michael Owen and we all know how that ended.
This Ben Arfa fella is demonstrating some questionable personality traits. Perhaps the warning signs should be heeded. ?

Ola Toivonen isn’t the type of forward we need.

Of those mentioned i would love for Ben Arfa and Fer to sign.

Anichebe has stagnated and never really proven anything. Halliche could be ok, but seem destined for Fulham.

Alhassane Keita – no. The type of forward we need, but let’s not sign more than one difficult person at first (Ben Arfa). We don’t need to fill up the squad with these guys..(look at the following link, as well as you think about the fact that he signed for another club while already having signed for Mallorca)!

Ben Arfa and Fer would be excellent signings for us, and would be key for us this season.

Ed, 5 players ‘targeted’ = 1 player ‘signed’ (maybe). There’s less than a 1:5 of landing anyone, so for 6 signings this summer we should have been after 30+ players….

And that is why many clubs have a Director of Football. Hate the title as it implies superiority to the manager, hence the Wise fiasco, so let’s have a Squad Development Manager instead who works alongside Chris so CH can concentrate of the yeahs and nays without having to go tear-assing around checking out players in July & August when there is training and tactics to be done.

Poor structure thanks to Mashley, too much pressure on CH.

    Newutd I disagree with you.
Toivonen would be perfect for us. I saw him last week in the swedish side up front with ibrahimovich. Similar to our super caroll:) Toivonen have both pace and briliant football mind. to bad i never can se him coming to us.

hope Ben afra deal will come thru and then we go in for a defensive playmaker.

We’re sill if we let Ben Arfa slip to be honest.

At 5-6 million he is an absolute bargain in todays market. Jones to Stoke for 8 million is one example why we would be daft to not snap him up.

Don’t panic on the Ben Arfa bussiness, we are still in with a shout. He was always going to have to return to LOM anyway, as he is still contracted there. I suspect he has already burned his bridges so a move out is still the logical way forward for him. Incidentally Malaysia-rashid… how many girlfriends do you have mate?

ben arfa would have to go back anyways to talk to the president and DD to sort out his future, its all over the media in france, they know he wants to leave, they just have to sort out a deal for his release, there is no way he can stay at OM now, the fans dont want him there anymore either

huseklepp isnt good enough, he is too lightweight, skjelbred is a better player but still no better than guthrie or barton, leroy fey is a much better option overall

I’ve being reading all this Hulla-Ballo about HBA, by the sounds of it (don’t beat me up here guys) he seems to be trouble, he’s not conducting himself as a professional footballer should and with the troubles we’ve had over the pass two season do we need any more publicity..i’m just saying — he may be a godsend or a curse.
