Sky Sports News is reporting this morning that Glasgow Rangers are closing in on the signing of Manchester City youngster 20 year-old Vladimir Weiss, on a season long loan deal.
Vladimir Weiss – loan move to Rangers?
And that will be bad news for Newcastle fans, as Vladimir has been one of the loan targets of the Magpies, and it’s now looking like the club will miss out on the 13 times capped Slovakian International.
Manchester City are ready to loan out their highly-rated right winger, as he will not make City’s 25 man squad for this season.
The news is that Celtic had also been interested in Weiss, but the skillful winger is set to make the switch to rivals Rangers.
Rangers manager Walter Smith is keen to bolster his squad after having to unload a number of his stars during the summer months, because of money concerns at the club.
And Weiss is believed to be in Glasgow today to undergo a medical and have talks with Rangers, before tying up a move to the Ibrox club.
As we said, if that is indeed true, it will be bad news for Newcastle fans.
Comments welcome.

if weiss is 20 years old why does it matter to man city that he won’t make the 25 man squad? he would still be able to play as he is under 21 surely? not that i’m disputing the fact that loaning him out would probably be good for both weiss and city

^ True
Well i just hope to see three new players walk into to SJP that are way above Perch ability.
3 NUFC_Richyg01 // Aug 19, 2010 at 10:55 AM
THere are obviously others above him in the pecking order, which inadvertantly means he maybe aint all that?

Could it be that the majority of our targets do not want to come here? In the days of KK and SBR they would have flocked at the doors of St James Park. Not now. Why? Does the soccer grapevine say that NUFC under Ashley is a no go area? Have we, under Ashley, lost our kudos, been robbed of our heritage by a barrow boy from the concrete jungle of north London?
13 jobzagudun // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:38 AM
hi im new to the blog, and i only just registered as i am sick to death of hearing our own fans slagging our own players off. Everybody needs to get off PERCH`s back and give the lad a chance, for christs sake man he had his baptism of fire against the potential champions of the league, of course he is going to be a bit nervous, some of you lot need to take a chill pill and start putting more effort into supporting and willing our players to do well, than you do slagging them off, no wonder every other club in the country contests that we are the best fans when they see the stuff we write and say about our own players. GET A GRIP!
HOWAY THE LADS! LETS KICK THE VILLAINS BACK TO BIRMINGHAM!

Us being relegated last season will have ht our street cred, and maybe players are afraid to come here incase that happens again this season.

Newcastle isnt the major draw for players anymore like it used to be. We’re a newly promoted team, we have no money to spend and the fat controllers in charge. We clearly arent going to attract the same caliber of players as we used to.
I’d love it if we made a few surprise signings before the end of the window, but can anyone still see that happening?
Even the Ben Arfa deal has dragged on so long that it doesnt look likely anymore.
Howay Cashlety and Hoots, prove me wrong…..please?

hey guys, remy is having a medical at Marseilles so maybe that means movement on ben arfa today?
20 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:46 AM
i know its the same team we went down with, and we do need some new players, not squad players, first team players 2-3 i think
But its the same squad that went down, fair enough, but the likes of enrique, collo, guthrie, carroll etc have improved alot with the experience, and dressing room morale is now good, so not everything is the same, im sick of pundits sticking their noses in, cant wait till we prove them wrong.
21 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:47 AM
i predicted we would get relegated last time, and everyone laughed at me, saying there was no chance at all, and would dance naked round newcastle, and i was right, this time i say we wont go down, but we wont stay up by much
22 Ericles // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:49 AM
Weiss is going to Rangers. Arfa is going to Italy most likely. We have missed the bus once again. Thanks Ashley – sorry about the birth certificate!
23 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:51 AM
I think everyone should wait till the window closes, then we can make all these statements, i know what everyone means, but we need to wait and see what happens, i thought we would let a couple of players go aswell
24 NewcastleMole // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:53 AM
@Ericles
I wouldnt want to play for newcastle atm and ive been a fan all my life. The current squad is Average no real talent and has a few thugs, The Manager is a rookie, The Chairman isn’t going to spend, Club is regularly in the Media for the wrong reasons. And the pressure of playing infront of a demanding 52,000 at sjp.
@hitman
It’s true but i can’t stand Garth Crooks
25 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:54 AM
here is the sort of player we need to get in, but newcastle wont of even heard of him, they dont even have a scouting network, seen him play a few times in the youth games on sky, he stood out so much, he reminded me alot of henry

26 chuck // Aug 19, 2010 at 11:58 AM
Getting closer to the window`s closing, with not a viable target in sight.
ARE we gonna get anyone decent in? does`nt look like it.
Should have been the top priority since last christmas, when promotion looked assured, to have compiled a list of players that would improve the side and ensure survival in this competitive league.
And i`m not talking about a plodder, an injured unproven freebie and an ageing free agent(read Perch, Duckling and Campbell)
We have been associated with a Portugese Striker, a power midfielder from Holland and of course Ben Arfa.
All of which may have been decent buys, so what exactly are we waiting for?
Were they too expensive ?
Like most fans at this club frustration becomes part of the package and watching Man U. take a stroll in the park against us Monday only makes it clear what kind of a future this side has in the upcoming season.
Even with a couple of decent additions, it`s my opinion it will still be a struggle to survive.
So hopefully the club will get off the dime and begin to build a decent PL side, please no more cheapos or plodders, just a couple of decent young prospects that will be part of a decent future side.

29 toonboyjake // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:01 PM
geordie lad why would we want another 6ft+ striker, we’ve got about 5, we need a small pacey striker that can play off of carroll, like a young lovenkrands
30 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:01 PM
exactly newcastle mole, thats the point, we need to be looking at players like this, having scouts assigned to holland, france, germany etc, we need to get decent scouts from european sides, our ones are useless! if they think players like adjei, spear, zamblera are any good, i have seen these kids, they are terrible, i dont know what anyone seen in them

newcastle youth network is one of the few success stories of ashleys regieme….i do think a few scouts in france & would be a good idea, we seem to have scandinavia sorted
32 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:03 PM
toonboyjake, why has everyone got this thing about little strikers and pace?, can tall players not have pace, henry, drogba?? so you wouldnt want drogba with carroll, would that not work??
33 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:05 PM
fostino we have scandanavia sorted, we come up with skjbred and huseklepp, i could have told them that before they went, everyone knew about them already, liverpool had huseklepp on trial ages ago, there is loads of talent in scotland aswell,

39 toonboyjake // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:13 PM
geordielad, drogba is more power then pace, and personally id prefer a smaller striker as if we have two 6ft+ strikers, we will just play long balls all game and the two strikers will get the flick ons but noone will recieve them, we should look at someone like giovani dos santos from spurs to play just off carroll, he’s quick and has a bag of tricks and isnt likely to play a lot of games for spurs
40 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:14 PM
i know a scout that worked under ashley, and he says he found some amazing talented players, and passed on the info, and as soon as the toon top brass heard the clubs wanted 1-3m for the players, it was a none starter
41 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:16 PM
drogba is pretty quick mate, like someone said yesterday, can you not remember shearer and ferdinand, or shearer and sutton, they are both tall partnerships, and worked a treat
42 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:19 PM

According to this article i think that Carlos Vella could go on a cheap….maybe 3-4 mill.
Now thats a striker i’d love alongside Carroll.

45 GeordieGerman // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:25 PM
Would like to see (but not a chance) Marko Marin from Werder, he’s only 21 small and fast.
46 Magpietillidie22 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:26 PM
I would love to emulate arsenal as a club but if you actually look at the facts, arsenals wonderkids (bar a few) havent been part of any success at arsenal.
The unbeatables season featured players such as Henry and Veira and they were bought for a fair sized fee in their primes. They were not youngsters when signed.
We need to sign future stars but we also need to get some here and now stars because right now I couldnt pick out a real prem star in our starting eleven
47 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:26 PM
geordiegerman agreed, he is a great player, but we could get or afford him
48 Magpietillidie22 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:28 PM

49 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:28 PM
magpietillidie22
That leroy fer is similar to patrick vieira, thats the stamp of youth player we need to be investing in, if we are to move forward as a club, but it wont happen, aslong as ashley is in charge, whats the point in paying scouts to watch players, if you aint going to buy any??

52 toonboyjake // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:33 PM
Carlos Vela isnt a bad player geordielad, he was going to be another example of a quick player i was gonna use, arsenal fans hate most of there strikers, i live in london so know a lot of arsenal fans and the only strikers ive heard them say they’ve like in the last 5 years have been henry, arshavin and adebeyor
53 Magpietillidie22 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:33 PM
Exactly geordielad
It will be incredibly disappointing because i honestly thought we could get him (i still hope) but hope is fading fast.
And on Fer i would love to sign him, we definitely could use a player who can sit in the middle and break down attacks. That was something that didnt really get mentioned after the man u game, they practically strolled through the middle of the park. Smith did OK but a real DCM would have shut it down

57 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:36 PM
carlos vela is going to fulham anyways, and i dont think he is anything special, hes played 88 games in his career and scored 13 goals, and thats including when he was at salamanca and osasuna, he isnt a goalscorer, he is a second striker, we need a goalscorer!
58 Magpietillidie22 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:36 PM
We’ve missed another steal just now too. Armand Traore from arsenal is going to benfica for 3.2m…. he is 5x the player james perch is!
I would love to know the team behind our transfers, who finds the players, who reports the players and exactly who gives the go ahead.

*his records speaks for itself, and no-one has exactly gone crazy to try and snap the lad up have they, he is average, end of story, we need a PROVEN striker, not a fizzy player, and not a arsenal reserve player
61 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:39 PM
magpietillidie, traore is a decent player, but he is a left back/left midfielder, and is prone to mistakes, he is better than perch, pity he isnt right sided though, i wouldnt pay 3m for him,
62 Partizan // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:45 PM
You’re talking about stats,i’m talking about his style of playing.
He was just a teenager while in Spain man,and i bet he could get us at least 10 goals this season with that amount of assists aswell.
63 geordielad880 // Aug 19, 2010 at 12:46 PM

Just heard from a friend in France that as soon as Loic Remy has passed his medical L’OM will allow Hatem Ben Arfa to come to Newcastle on a season long loan deal of £780,00 with a clause in the deal that if Newcastle stay in the Premier League they have to pay between £4.5- £6.5 million for him depending on appearences. It is expected that Loic Remy will sign today and be announced at 7.00PM which is when Ben Arfa will come over. Also it has been touted that he already has agreed personal terms with Newcastle when he came over last weekend and the figure is £28,000 per week rising to £35,000 a week if he signs on a permanent basis.
Watch this space and trust me this is from a very very trustworthy source (my friend is studying sport science and going through his second phase at clairefontaine).
He has also added that we have very serious interest in the availability of Andre-Pierre Gignac and Fode Mansare.
