Newcastle Make Bid For FC Twente Midfielder Tiote

The Daily Mirror is reporting this morning that Newcastle have officially  joined the race for FC Twente midfielder Cheick Tiote.

Cheick Tiote – Newcastle have placed bid for midfielder

And the news is that the Newcastle club have put in a bid for the Ivory Coast International, who usually plays in defensive midfield.

Yesterday it was reported that  West Brom tabled a bid of around £3M for the player who h asplayed 8 times so far for the Ivory Coast.

The Mirror is reporting that Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is now the new favorite to clinch Tiote’s signature, but why that is the case, we have no idea.

The 5’11” Tiote previously was at  Belgian club Anderlecht and was sent out on loan to Dutch side Roda, before he joined FC Twente in 2008.

Why are we constantly after central midfielders.

I hope this is as valid as all the other transfer rumours.

Well done on your results mate. I’d suggest John Hall West corner for your season ticket.

I doubt it although The Daily Mirrror is such a highly regarded source

Arevalo’s agent said we were after a player from the Ivory Coast so this could be him.

Caution – a Mirror report! Do we need another central midfielder? If CH is really after him (and I doubt it) then it indicates a certain style of play that CH prefers. As I said about the defeat at Man Utd we were too predictable. Our style and formation was known before we even pulled our socks on. We need some pace and flair on the wings and an intelligent proactive playmaker. We also need a new owner!!!

We do need a playmaker, but we also need someone to play as the midfield anchor to protect the back four. Smith isn’t good enough at this level to do that, especially in an open game.

That said, I would rather we go for Fer.

Agree Tom. Fer would be a better defensive midfielder instead of Smith.

Lost my satilite on sky due to thunder!!grrrrrrr!!!!,
Fer would be a great signing but feel we wont get him this year!, as for Smith playing defensive midfield, “he’s are best performer in that poss”, Barton not tough enough, Nolan likes to get fwd & Guthrie is are so called playmaker”, Give smudge a break as he puts in 110% every game & i much prefer effort & hardwork then so called talent!!.

IMHO CDM is THE position to strengthen first. We need a good solid defensive unit to work from and know we have a stable base that we are able to rely on not to concede silly goals. Theres no point providing 2 goals and then allowing them to score 4. We need to have a solid unit of 4 defenders and 2 CDM in my opinion. This would give a solid base of 6 to then have any combination of players further up the field. You could have those 4 rotating positions, changing wings, doing all sorts

I think this is the position that needs sorting out.
Barton can play that playmaking role, but against united he had to sit back and play as a defensive mid as smith was shit all game.. a good defensive midfielder would give us playmaking options with barton guthrie or nolan playing infront of it…

Why do we need another defensive midfielder thats all we have Greening is availble on loan from fulham, bullard if fit is a cracking player and hull will pay have hes wages? comon we need players who can turn and run past players slip passes, and take on shots, win free kicks, we move in banks of four very easy to defend. against

A new day and a new player who could lanbd at St. James Park. But my thoughts on him are:
    1. Fer or Arevalo are better than him. I do not really rate TIote, saw him at Anderlecht a couple of times and couldn’t impress me at all.
    2. Why would we make bids for Fer and also for Tiote?

I,m a FC Twente supporter myself and i shall try to give you some players info on Tiote.

He is a very strong player, he,s very good in personal duels with his opponent.
He is sort of a key player between de defenders and attackers, he is not a goal scorer but can be a important player for a team.
Rumours are here that he must cost in betwee 5 to 8 million Euro.

If you can list him in you should have a player who make it to the first eleven players of your team.
Whe want to keep him ourselves but he prefers his way tot the Englisch competition. Also Everton, WBA and West Ham are trying to get him. And in Germany has Wolfsburg interest and in France wont’s Stade de Rennes him.
