Newcastle look close to signing hard man Cheick Tiote of FC Twente, the Dutch Champions, and we hope that deal can be completed before tomorrow’s important game with Aston Villa.
Ben Arfa – Newcastle still pursuing this player?
Tiote will give some steel to the Newcastle midfield, and a player who is almost the opposite, with sublime and silky skills, is 23 year-old Hatem Ben Arfa.
And even though it has looked like Newcastle were dead in the water in trying to sign the French International, after he was on Tyneside last weekend trying to force through his move to Newcastle, it seems the Tyneside club are still in the lead to get this lad on loan, after Werder Bremen yesterday denied any interest in the player.
Hughton has played his cards very close to his chest throughout the transfer window, and we like the way Chris keeps quiet about everything until the deal is done, and that’s a nice change for a Newcastle manager, and one of Chris’ strengths in the transfer market.
And while Hughton has refused to say much about Ben Arfa at all, the very fact he has said something this morning to the Newcastle Journal, could suggest the club may be closer to getting this player on Tyneside.
This is what Chris said today about Ben Arfa:
“He is very much a player we are aware of,” “He is a good player but there’s certainly nothing to say on that one.”“I read the reports,”
“Certainly I have not seen him.” ”Anything regarding Ben Arfa, it is categorically speculation.”
“Is he a player I like and admire, yes. But I honestly don’t know what the position is. I honestly don’t know.”
If Chris does not know what the current situation is, you could argue the deal is hardly dead in the water.
We are still hoping the deal can be made with Marseilles, but their President Jean-Claude Dassier will have to take an ego hit, if indeed the Newcastle club, whom he appears to dislike, gets their man.
The latest news is that Ben Arfa’s wage demands have put off several clubs across Europe, and the Frenchman was photographed on Tyneside this week but Hughton was claiming ignorance over it all.
And there is news on some fan sites today, that Ben Arfa is back in Newcastle right now, but we have no idea if those rumors are true.
But if we can wrap the Tiote deal up this weekend, and then bring in Ben Arfa, then most Newcastle fans would be very pleased with those two players – silk and steel in the form of Ben Arfa and Tiote in our midfield.
Comments welcome.

I was just wondering why we’d not announced the deal, if as the tabloids say, Tiote is a done deal.
The twitter posts seem to say it was done on Monday.
If OM want 5-6 million for Ben Arfa and we’ve told them that we don’t have the money to spend so need a loan deal instead, then I wonder how they’d react if they discovered we’d spent 4.5 million on another player?
Perhaps we’re keeping one deal quite for the sake of the other? If that’s the case, the constant speculation on the web (and articles like that one that the press are likely to read) are hardly helping our cause……

For any1 interested, I received an e-mail from Craigcoozy as arranged and can only say he seems 100% genuine and so does his info.
Other sources around like on twitter are beginning to come out backing what craig has said so hopefully we need not worry about any1 faking craigs name in the future.

I don’t read anymore CH interviews they bore me to tears…he never has anything to say just waffle.
He Just deflects questions and denies everything….if there’s nowt happening Chris just tell it like it is or get a job in politics.

Anyone know who the agent is we use? That guy on twitter say’s “mr waite will soon be getting his fee for the ben afra deal” doubt that “waite will be his real name.
24 toonruz // Aug 21, 2010 at 10:55 AM
don think he said any thing about Tiote but he did about the french one
25 MacToon // Aug 21, 2010 at 10:56 AM
Toon1978, the info is about Arfa and nothing about Tiote as far as I can see. As craig has said his info is limited but is reliable as we know from other deals in the past. I believe him 100%.
26 Jan Stavik // Aug 21, 2010 at 10:56 AM
The Arfa-deal looks more likely with Werder out of the running. Will this transfer window be like the last 3-4 years, not much activity and then some emergency deals on deadline day? I hope so, because our squad is not strong enough.
Smith leaving? With that salary I’d love to see him on the bike, but I’m afraid there are no takers…
27 GeordieToon89 // Aug 21, 2010 at 10:56 AM
do agents still get fees for loans? am sure they dont a thought it was only permanent transfer that they got fees, i could be wrong mind

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheick_Tiot%C3%A9
“Cheick Ismael Tioté (born 21 June 1986 Yamoussoukro) is a Ivorian footballer who is currently playing for Newcastle United from the English Premier League.”
31 MacToon // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:02 AM
sirjasontoon, Yeah CH is a bit boring but it’ll be part of his job working for Ashley to not say anything about on-going deals. Makes sense really.
32 petey // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:03 AM
Dutch newspapers are also saying he has agreed personal terms.
33 GeordieToon89 // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:04 AM
suppose its better for him not to say anything to avoid inflation in the prices or other teams gazumping us knowing we want certain players i dont care what he says aslong as we get the right players in and he knows what positions we need which is good
34 sweendog // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:05 AM
Looks like Tiote deal is agreed already .. heres one excerpt from a dutch site.

46 Ericles // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:10 AM
Pretty accurate assessment sirjasontoon. CH has become very predictable on and off the pitch. I know the bloke is restricted by the mentality of the fat man but lets face it – Ashley does not decide the tactics on the field. That is CH and when Andy Gray can predict exactly how we would play Man Utd then we need to examine CH a lot closer regardless of him getting promotion. All that said we must get behind the team and staff – we will be cheering the black and white when the fat man is long gone!
47 roe997 // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:10 AM
fc twente pence announced yes that tiote missed yesterdays training due to a personal situation but was, yesterday, stil included in todays squad.
48 H. Gen. // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:11 AM
Tiote is a done deal. Here in Holland media reports that Newcastle have paid a amout off 4,7 million Euro. But other media reports that the paid up to 8 million Euro.
Personaly i think that the truth lais in the middle.
But anyway congratulations you have signed a player that make i to the first eleven.

Ericles, CH seems to be building from the back which on the whole is pretty boring but a good way to do it.
We still have an unbeaten record at home and hope it continues on Sunday.
52 skiptoon // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:15 AM
It would make a difference to the team, both defensively and in attack. It might even lead to a change in formation. I’d like to see a 4,2,3,1 formation. 2 holding midfielders in front of our back four, where atleast one has the ability to get involved in late runs into the box (Barton). 3 attack minded midfielders , 2 pacey wingers and a creative player in the middle with freedom to roam. Then a big stiker who is capable of playing up front by himself. If you look at a first and second team (you might disagree which team some might be in) but it shows the squad, when fit and with these 2 additions, would suit this formation.
My first team –
Harper
Simpson Coloccini Campbell Enrique
Tiote Barton
Routledge Ben Arfa Gutierrez
Carrol
My second team
Forster/Krul
Perch/R Taylor S Taylor Williamson (TBD)
Smith Guthrie
Gosling/Lovenkrands Nolan/Vuckic (TBD)
Ameobi
future looks good with competition for most places and some young talents coming through (Forster, Krul, Vuckic & may be Gosling) add to them some other youngsters in the squad (Kadar, Tavernier, Inman, Ranger, …). Just needs some work on the left hand side for me.
What do you guys think?
53 GeordieToon89 // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:16 AM
it is quite quick wiki mind although they dont seem to word things very well or look at the other details
54 MacToon // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:17 AM
Sween, the second link say’s the announcement would be after Twente’s game about Tiote, not that he might play but worth keeping an eye on their squad for today just to make sure
H. Gen, we appretiate the posts, thanks.

One of the twitter guys has said we signed Arfa 20 mins ago…. it’s on the latest thread on this blog
73 H. Gen. // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:51 AM
Tiote is nog playing for use this evening against Vitesse.
The transfer price wath Newcastle paid for Tiote is € 7.000.000 . This is revealed in a twitter from a very close FC Twente watcher is has several good conections in the club, so i think that he is telling the truth.
But my personal opinion is that Tiote its worth it to the last penny.
74 sweendog // Aug 21, 2010 at 12:03 PM
H. Gen .. couldn’t be 7 .. think its around 4.5 M Euro.. west brom had this offer accepted by Twente .. we wouldn’t double it..

H. Gen .. glad you think he’s worth it .. don’t know too much about him other than he is a fast and good DM .. exactly what we need to cover for Arfa … can’t wait for tomorrows game.. when at least Arfa will be unveiled..

Ed, are you kidding?! Pleased with these 2 signings?! I would personally be over the moon!
The very few times i’ve watched Tiote played, he was immense! He is physically very strong, and his distribution isnt the worst for a defensive midfielder. I would be happy even if we dont get any more players apart from this two now. They will improve our squad tremendously.
79 dave 1961 // Aug 21, 2010 at 12:33 PM
why would he not play today when he has signed subject to him getting a work permit
80 toonpigeon // Aug 21, 2010 at 12:54 PM
Hopefully this deal can be concluded today so that he can play tomorrow. I think he would be a very good signing for us as he is a tough physical player and adds some pace to the team. The icing on top of this would be us adding BA to the squad for the wolves game.
81 geordielad880 // Aug 21, 2010 at 1:56 PM

87 HATEMackems BEN ARFA // Aug 21, 2010 at 2:37 PM
sports director Jose Anigo gave updates on the case of Hatem Ben Arfa. “He is not training with us and he has clearly made the margin, he said, but there are ongoing discussions with some clubs. He may want to leave the club but he is not training and liable to heavy financial penalties. ”
“Apparently, he works out alone and he needs it because it is demanding and not to train is not normal even if you have disputes with us,” he added, hopefully find a club After the end of the transfer window. Time becomes shorter and shorter and he must find a club. “
88 baro // Aug 21, 2010 at 3:53 PM
Them 2 players would indeed complete the puzzle of our team. We are just lacking creativity and a all arounder defender. These 2 players for just under 9 million would be awesome, and brilliant.
89 Phil K // Aug 22, 2010 at 1:12 AM
NOBODY will buy Smith – he contributes little, and is on huge wages. He’s hanging on at Newcastle because he knows he won’t get a TWENTIETH of what he’s on here.
All thanks to that tosser Allardyce, lets see if he comes in for him….he lumbered us with this waste of space in the first place.
90 Davies // Aug 23, 2010 at 10:37 AM
I really hope some of you people are prepared to take back the things you said about Smith here. He was absolutely fantastic yesterday. That said, I don’t think anyone in our team (apart from shola, and even he nodded the ball down for Carroll’s third!) could be criticised for their performance yesterday.
