Chris Hughon Refuses To Deny Newcastle Tiote Interest

Chris Hughton has at least said he is aware of the reports that Newcastle are interested in FC Twente’s Ivory Coast  International defensive midfielder Check Tiote.

Check Tiote – capped 8 times so far for the Ivory Coast

Of course Hughton refused to confirm whether Newcastle have already made an offer for the player, but West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of midfielder Borja Valero for a club record fee of £4.7M yesterday from Spanish club Real Mallorca.

WBA have reportedly made a bid of around £3M for Check Tiote, and we were hoping they have now given up on Tiote after Newcastle reportedly launched their own bid for the player yesterday.

Hughton is working hard to sign new players this month but obviously would not be drawn on Newcastle’s specific targets, and that’s understandable.

Indeed, Chris claims that most of the names linked with Newcastle is only guess work on the part of the mass media – well that’s a surprise.

But as far as Tiote goes the Newcastle manager doesn’t seem to deny the Newcastle interest, as he said today:

“He is a player we are very much aware of, but as with lots of other names, they are very much speculation.”

Exactly what that means is itself open to speculation, but it seems to us he is not denying the Newcastle interest in the player.

We hope he is not denying the Newcastle interest in the player.

Welcome welcome.

As I have previously stated, I think this would be a sensible signing. Smithy is our only out and out CDM and whats the biggest problem? He has no pace. Tiote will give us pace that we don’t have in all our CM’s so I think its sensible! 🙂

Ed, thanks for all you do with this site! great job! im a little confused, you say Valero has just joined WBA, yet he is an ex player of theirs having signed there for £4.7mil in 2008 – he is now at Villareal from where he moved in June…? at least thats what it says here… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borja_Valero

Havent seen him play but for a DM Smith has the positional sense of a death bat on the moon.

Tahe notice, when the opposition take it down the wings, the back 2 will drop deep, a striker will drop off and smith will not cover him…it really infuriates me. Like Smithy because of his attitude but he doesnt really have a good football brain. Nicky Butt was underrated in his positioning, and its more apparent.

About Tiote, like i said never seen him, but african players are generally athletic, strong and we miss that type of player to physcially command the midfield.

But we could really do with another DM for away from home (Barton and Guthrie at home :)).

i really really hope we get this guy!

looks strong, and i am sure he’d have good legs and be able to protect the defence and be the ball winner in midfield………

we need a player like this who adds something else, as our CM is borderline predictable in its style and pace

sign him in hughton…….and then we’ll need a LB cover, cover winger and striker lol

And yeh Ed, West Brom signed Valero two years ago, he didnt play, get relegated and loaned him out.

    Was a huge flop.

What I like about Hughton in the transfer market is that he knows which areas we need to strengthen and targets players to fill those positions, something managers before him didn’t.

The signing of Routledge completely changed the team last year, this year we seem weak in the middle and are struggling for creativity so he goes out and chases the players for those positions in Ben Arfa and Tiote.

We need the right amount of the right players to cover the right positions and hopefully that is the target.

We should be aiming for a balanced squad of 25 players (youngsters aside) to register with the FA. CH has his hands tied to a degree financially and is probably the main reason why we are pushing for a years loan on B Arfa with an option to buy, leaves funds maybe for other deals like Tiote.

Just over a week left, get it sorted CH 😉

I do trust Hughton will get the players in the right positions…not just buy players for the sake of it.

Hughton must plan to play S.Taylor or Colo right back if he doesnt buy one because that is a problem area for me. Simpson is great going forward but suspect when anyone runs at him and Perch, erm lets be nice and say inexperienced rather than a stronger word. Would be a good soltuion esepcially as Williamson read the game so well against Man Utd (if you ignore some of his clearences).

That piece he said about hba goes right with what craigcoozy said. Nobody is reporting seeing him like last time though and that has people worried but fact is nufc prob didnt want anybody seeing him thats why nobody reported it….anyways fingers crossed

I believe that we have gone in for TIOTE and if we believe reports he had a medical last night, i do believe we have applied for his work permit along with arevallo, if tiote’s doesnt come through Arevallo will be signed as back up, hence CH constant talk of waiting for the right players and right price and delaying meaning last minute buys. As i reported b4 greek websites stating everything had been agreed. As for HBA its boring and if we dnt sign him i believe we again have some1 lined up shame we couldnt bring any1 new in b4 sunday.

    truegreek,

the twitter lad who is connected with agents said hba will be signed this weekend. Craigcoozy came on earlier and said hba is on tyneside as of 2 pm. I think things are looking good. If hba for some reason doesnt come to toon that would mean marseille are gonna keep him because there is nobody else. The liklihood of hba playing another minute for OM is farfetched at best. He has not taken training with them in over a week. Id say relationship is broken there for good. Im banking on the twitter dude with conects and craigcoozy. As for no players b4 sunday if tiote took his medical yesterday they verywell could have got him approved by the fa today, dont know if you have to have a work permit before you can submit to the fa or not…anyways hba and tiote this weekend in black and white. good weekend plus 3 points from villa….hwtl

    MORE TRANSFER RUMOURS: 3 IN?
Latest rumours around Tyneside are claiming that three players are on their way.

More rumours of players coming to Toon. According shite seats these players are on the way. I don’t believe a single word of it.

Nicky Maynard – the striker from Bristol City who did us damage last year

Christian Rebeiro – a 20-year-old Welsh left-back also from Bristol City

Maarten Martens – Belgian attacking midfielder from AZ Alkmaar

Agreed Solaidback. The players need and deserve our support regardless of what the powers that be do and say (not that much is said coming out of the SJP offices). I really do take with a pinch of salt this speculation about who is coming to NUFC. We have endured a season of drivel and transfer twaddle. UI also would like CH to change the record – he is sadly becoming very formulaic both on and off the pitch.

the reason we need new midfielders are that no one offer anything going forward..no one is running through the channels, and therefor no through passes are anticipated….
against united we had no off sides….we rarely having anyone off side apart from the lone striker….And Smith just simply dosnt want the ball…every time Barton or the defence has the ball he just dosnt offer him self making the kick the long hopeful ball…….mark my words and check how few off sides we will have if any aginnst villa on sunday

    hello all

have just registered on this blog but have read for a long time

I think we need to forget all protests, booing etc and support team no matter what and show we are the best fans in the country especially this weekend when potential targets, possible future players may be looking at what Newcastle are about.

the team has many floors and we are sufering from a lack of player investment, but many teams are so lets get behind them and try and make them over achieve and make players want to play here even if we cannot offer top wages anymore

I thought Tiote was Ivory coast, not Cameroon ?

    Shearermania

You’ve go it in one. Absolutely no pace or movement up front or through the middle. No through balls or cut backs for midfielders to come on to. just largely route 1, hit and hope long balls to a very static Carroll.

Ranger, Loven or even Routledge as a second striker would be better than the slowest, least creative unit of Smith et al in a rigid 4-5-1. In a 4-5-1, the 1 has to be very quick and Carrol is not that.

Hughton has made mistakes bringing in Perch and Best and giving them game time over Ranger and Vuksic. I’m not sure Ben Arfa is a player Hughton personally wants, even though that would solve the pace and creativity issue.

As for Tiote, he sounds good, but surely an extra 1M for Lery Fer would have got us a younger, taller powerhouse who wouldn’t need a visa.

with the players at our disposal 442 is the only formation we can play also away as our second striker (loverboy or xisco) will get the knock downs from our targetman being carroll or either strolla…our midfield (considered gutrie and barto are playing side by side) are good on the ball and got flair and creativity…we got pacey wingers with a bit of trickery….
classic 442…..I hate Spurs but im very impressed by the way they line up their formation both home and away…
