Danny Guthrie Touch And Go For Tomorrow

News today that Danny Guthire may not be ft for the game tomorrow afternoon, at home to Aston Villa.

Danny Guthrie – an injury doubt for tomorrow

It appears that Chris Hughton is sweating on the fitness of Danny Guthrie before tomorrow’s important game against Aston Villa at St. James’ Park.

Guthrie injured his knee last week in training and missed out on the game at Manchester United although he made the trip in the hopes  he would make the game.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“It’s going be touch and go for Danny, but he did train yesterday.” “We’re assessing him and Peter Lovenkrands.”

“We definitely have not ruled either of them out.” “Peter and Danny are players who played a big part last season.”

“It’s important that you have all of your best and important players available.”

Hughton confessed today that when he announces his team for tomorrow’s game,  there could be some players not in the side who will be disappointed, but that’s what we want to see – real competition for places.

And Chris seems to be pleased there is indeed competition for starting places within his current squad, as he continued:

“It is a good battle going on in there.” “And we want as much competition going on as possible.” “What you also have in the central midfield area are players who can also play out wide.”

“It’s a long season and we’ll be looking to use all of them.” “There will be various places where we go and want to use a tighter or more compact midfield.” “We’ve got to use the players that we have.”

In central midfield we would expect both Alan Smith and Joey Barton to keep their places, since both had reasonable games against the Red Devils last Monday night.

However, we also hope we have Cheick Tiote at the club before we start that game at 1:30 pm tomorrow afternoon.

Here’s hoping.

I don’t see CH playing Smith and Nolan in the same team at home. My team for tomorrow is:

Ryan Taylor may get a start at either RB or RW but think he’ll start on the bench……

So on the bench there’ll be; Krull, R. Taylor, Smith, Xisco, Ameobi, and possibly Campbell and Guthrie if deemed fit…..

I agree with your line up mate. Cant see Smith starting.

Tiote needs work permit which means he cant play until it is approved which takes days right?

Smith starting against MU was tactical. He cannot keep his position this week unless it is due to lack of other options id best, loven and guth are out

I don’t think McLoven will be starting if there’s any chance of an injury. Wouldn’t mind seeing Xisco start just playing off Carroll.

It’ll be Shola and Carroll up top tomorrow, you can be certain of that!
Would love to see Xisco start ahead of Shola though.

Routledge, Jonas, Noland and Barton in mid.
Taylor, Williamson, Colo and The Bull at the back.

My team for tomorrow would be:

    Perch – Williamson – Coloccini – Enrique

Routledge – Nolan- Barton – Jonas

    Carroll – Vuckic

I would probably play Guthrie in CM if available. Would love to see Vuckic start a game, playing just off Carroll.

Agree with you besides I would start Danny Guthrie in Barton place, and push Barton out right. Would be perfect. I would love to see Haris Vuckic play.
