Reports In Holland That Newcastle Agree Deal For Tiote

6:23 pm, Saturday, August 21st, 2010 by Ed Harrison · 196 Comments

There are reports in Holland that Newcastle and FC Twente have reached an agreement today for the transfer of their Ivory Coast International Cheick Tioté.

Cheick Tiote – Newcastle agree deal for Ivory Coast midfielder

Of course nothing is final, especially with Newcastle, until it is reported on the Newcastle United web site, but it looks good that Newcastle will soon sign the 24 year-old defensive midfielder.

It is also being reported that the player has been withdrawn from the squad to play Heerenveen tonight , which is a game currently being played, and Tiote is not in the FC Twente side.

The Dutch papers are reporting that Tioté is the second player from Dutch Champions FC Twente to leave for the Premier League, with Ronnie Stam moving to Wigan earlier this summer.

We have to hope this move will be announced by Newcastle soon.

Comments welcome.

Newcastle United Set To Complete Deal For Cheick Tiote

Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a €4.2 million fee for Cheick Tiote and are set to conclude personal terms with the player and arrange a medical.

According to The Daily Mail, the FC Twente defensive midfielder has arrived on Tyneside to complete talks.

The 24-year-old has been capped eight times by Cote D’Ivoire and his transfer is subject to an approved work permit application.

lets just hope its true and appears on the club website asap

  • 3 davybtoon // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:38 PM

on offical website monday along with arfa hopefully, they will probably be at the match tomorrow

  • 4 GeordieTartanArmy // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:38 PM

If true, deal will be completed on Monday if he attends the Villa match. If he is not there, I presume he is not signing till tuesday

  • 5 Solaidback // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:42 PM

Nowt from L’OM regards Ben Arfa on NewsNow so I’m guessing he’s still over in France on his own!!!

Good signing (if it’s true) for us, will need to drop Smudger to the bench or sell him now as we’ll have 8 CM in our team :(

  • 6 nuttyward // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:44 PM

if he is coming to the match tomorrow tell him to bring along fer and arfa please .
then i would be lot happier

    KEEP THE FAITH

  • 7 BlacknWhite Barmy // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:48 PM

Fer – cant see both him and Tiote signing. Shame really, as we could try the two holding CM – playing midfield and not just infront of the back 4. Think brazil were quire good playing this way – but then of course you need pace up front and on the flanks

  • 8 Sgt. Heagerty // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:52 PM

    geordietoon,

you left without saying goodbye mate….im hurt…lol

  • 9 Solaidback // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:52 PM

I think the Fer story was a riuse to get Tiote, so that WBA didn’t see us hi-jacking their bid.. :)

It would be nice to get Fer but we have players like Vuckic who’s of a similar age & it wouldn’t be fair on him to bring Fer in ahead of him!!!

  • 17 Solaidback // Aug 21, 2010 at 6:58 PM

OT – The big question is, who will CH play against the mighty Accrington Stanley on Wednesday???

    I think he should play:

    Krul
    Tavernier – Kadar – Campbell – Tozer
    LuaLua – Vu?ki? – Ferguson – Símun Edmundsson
    Ranger – Xisco

Give allthe young lads a try out & get players like Xisco & Sol some match time too :)

  • 42 GeordieTartanArmy // Aug 21, 2010 at 7:26 PM

We should go with he world cups successful 4-2-3-1 strategy used by Spain, Holland, Germany, Argentina and also even the likes of Ghana and Ivory Coast at stages!
This will allow us to play Tiote alongside Barton or Guthrie or Gosling and maybe take a chance by waiting a year on Fer so the team is not changed too much. Then Ben Arfa heading the AM with Lov and someone else – maybe Vuckic?
Then Carrol obviously the sole striker!

  • 43 MacToon // Aug 21, 2010 at 7:27 PM

All agreed with HBA’s representatives, lets hope OM stay true to their word and sign off the required docs
about 4 hours ago via web

Down to OM again….. we’ve been here before!

  • 44 MacToon // Aug 21, 2010 at 7:29 PM

GeordieTartanArmy, I agree with the 4-2-3-1 but don’t Spain use the “Christmas tree” 4-3-2-1?

  • 45 GeordieTartanArmy // Aug 21, 2010 at 7:30 PM

Just to show what I meant in last comment!:

    Harper
    Simpson….Willo….Colo….Jose
    Tiote………Barton or Guthrie

    RAM*……………Ben Arfa…………Lovenkrands
    Carrol

*RAM will be anyone who can warm up the place for Vuckic one he breaks into first team!

seems FC Twente are resigned to losing the lad!

I’m delighted as we need a strong ball winner like tiote………..looking at him i rekon he’ll offer us the legs ,stamina and power we need in the middle to allow the likes of barton, guthrie and nolan to do what theyre best at.

Ben arfa in, a solid LB cover and a good goalscoring striker who’d link up with carrol would be superb ;)

  • 53 davybtoon // Aug 21, 2010 at 7:55 PM

If we get arfa I don’t think we will sign a striker bcoz if reports r true he has been promised the role jus off carroll hence allowin us to play nolan n one other in the middle

I can’t think of a more logical loan move that suits both teams and the player. It’s the best possible loan open for Forster.

  • 61 Rotonda heights // Aug 21, 2010 at 8:19 PM

I’m quite glad to have got Toite, but I really think we are missing a trick with Leroy Fer for not much more money. Fer will not be off to the African nations every 2 years and is younger and taller. Fer will be twice the price this time next year as a regular Dutch international replacing Van Bommel.

Hughton will have to grow some cojones and be prepared to drop fatboy Nolan and Smith if that’s what it takes.

  • 62 wickywoowoo // Aug 21, 2010 at 8:20 PM

    The mackems of Scotland?

How exactly are Celtic the Sunderland of Scotland? Do Newcastle chant the Famine Song at Sunderland fans?

If so, I can safetly say I won’t follow Newcastle anymore.

Still concerned about the two wide men as they struggle to get crosses in and i also think Lovenkrands may struggle this season but i may be totally wrong. Ideally another wide man and a striker would be good but i’m just getting greedy now. HBA and Tiote would make me very happy in the mean time lol.

  • 67 sweendog // Aug 21, 2010 at 8:38 PM

wickywoowoo .. agreed .. rather Celtic than rangers .. everyone has their preference..

  • 68 Tom_Toon // Aug 21, 2010 at 8:39 PM

Rotonda, its trivial. Fer was only mentioned because a paper or w/e got it wrong. Notice the prices for Tiote and Fer are quoted around the same, both play in the Dutch league so it was probably a case of chinese transfer whispers, we were probably never after Fer.

  • 69 Toon1978 // Aug 21, 2010 at 8:39 PM

  • 70 wickywoowoo // Aug 21, 2010 at 8:39 PM

I am a Celtic fan by birth. Did I ever claim Celtic’s fans are squeaky clean? No.

I’ve said many times on this blog, the .org blog and on BBC 606 that the Old Firm in Scotland both ruin Scottish football and keep it alive at the same time. I don’t know what else can be done to sort out the idiots in both camps.

As a Glaswegian born Celtic fan by birth, I know first hand how stupid and dangerous it is. I don’t need YouTube links to tell me, I’ve seen it first hand, thanks.

If we get a player at around 24 25 26 years old then NUFC will get the best years from them as he should sell them on 2-3 years later. Tiote for example 24 years old, if we get 3 years out of him Ashley should get a tidy sum for him providing he turns out good. Hopefully the money would be spent on more youngsters to come in do a job and get us to the promise land of Europe dare i say it lol….this is putting a positive note on it.

batty, if you read my messages correctly – you would have saw I don’t have a respect for any soldier that actively partakes in illegal wars with no reason other than to boost oil reserves.

I have no problem with soldiers at all – just ones who are brave enough to sign up but not stand up for what is right and just kill for the sake of capitalistic greed.

Unless you support killing innocent people just so you can continue to drive a car?

Anyway, Tiote – good signing or not?

There are plenty of soldiers who don’t agree with these wars but can’t do anything because they would be dragged through the mud and lose their families income. There are others, however, who see it as some sort of real life video game with kill points.

It’s the last bunch I have no sympathy for. Anyone with a brain would agree. Raoul Moat with a uniform is all that particular select group are.

i’d happily take ben arfa for a season at 6M and sell him for a few bob more if it meant we stayed up and had a chance to consolidate ourselves in the prem once again ;)

Great news that Tiote seems to have become a magpie! :) Hopefully he will be the DM we have been longing for! I’m also one of those who believe that Smith’s days with us should be gone. If he is to stay he should be willing to take a massive paycut. Ok, he is a leader figure and seems to be good for the mood in the squad, but if its true that he is on 65 k then I wouldn’t hesitate a second ig another offer turns up.

As I have said many times before Jose Ernesto Sosa ( Bayern) would be immense for us and he is available for a cut price. creativity and flair!
He would be a brilliant option should the Ben Arfa deal fall through. Maybe we should go for both!? Sosa can also play as a second striker.

    In: Sosa, Ben Arfa

this taken from FC Twente’s official site is saying that tiote is joining Newcastle Utd……….

an official site would have to be terribly un-proffesional to put some mear speculation on their site so this to me is a big signal that this deal really is going through ;)

i’m really hoping we see him holding up the toon ASAP as we cant let too many transfers get away from us and we need quality and numbers asap

Pity them, pity their poxy league and laugh as they fail oh so comically in Europe, as some Turkish also-run wipes their bum on them. So Cheik Tiote to Newcastle is defenitely a done deal. You always wait to see if its official once its on the official site, and it is on Fc Twente’s. So welcome to Newcastle Cheik Tiote. The “Lion King” is his nickname. I think he will fit right in the spot we are lacking at the defensive side of the midfield.

    wickywoowoo,

how dare you disrespect the american and british soldiers who have fought in iraq and afghanistan, how dare you soil the memories of my brothers who died in front of my eyes in iraq, and how dare you soil the memory of all british and american soldiers who gave their lives in battle you ungrateful, disrespectful, coward. I dobt like to talk politics at all and i surely dont want to listen to you talk your warped view on my favorite football website. Soldiers arent politicians, we dont start wars we finish them. We dont ask ehy when our countries send us off to war. thats not our jobs. My job, as an infantryman, was to close with, engage, and destroy the enemy. Very simple but deadly and violent job. I gladly did it because there is honor in serving one’s country. I had the honor of fighting alongside british royal marines and soldiers in najaf in 2004 and the triangle of death south of baghdad at the end of 04 through the first half of 05. They were some of the most couragous, honorable, and brave soldiers i served with. as far as i know they were welsh, irish, scots, and english. They never went after civilians they went outta their way not to hurt innocent civilians. And the innocent people you are referring too must be the dirtbags who plotted and drove carbombs into crowded marketplaces full or real innocent and civilians and killed them…only to leave me and my guys to pick up whats left. Dont you ever in your life disrespect the soldiers who have the courage to go and fight when you dont you coward. Im soo mad i dont even know if im maknig since…please keep your political comments to your self and dont take away one of the few things i still enjoy doing, talking about newcastle united football…oil are you serious, do you think us soldiers got stock in iraqi patroleum you idiot. can anybody translate this french…its about geordie toon arfa

  • 161 Fostino // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:13 PM

jeez, what did i miss here…..anyway tiote looks to be on the cards, looks like smith will play the same role as butt last year…a leader off the field and solid back up

now lets see if we can get ben afra to give nolan, jonas and routledge something to ponder…no one should be gauranteed a spot

craig cunningham (MAN CITY) as back up l.b. cover would be sweet too on loan

as long as we give it a go, and dont pack into our own half and try to limit the damage like we did against man u ill be happy. I would rather lose 7-0 but actually play to win and move forward then lose 2-0 and keep 11 in our own half and try to limit the damage. I want to see us attacking and creating chances…i dont want to see us playing like we dont have a chance

isaac from twitter reports rangers are chasing smith……….

  • 168 Fostino // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:25 PM

Sgt. Heagerty, roughly i think it says

ben afra on twitter says that club is ‘In turmoil’

Club president Jean-Claude Dassier respondsin interview that ben afra is “major concern”. “Werder Bremen wont take him. I hope that English clubs (Newcastle and Arsenal) will, as Hatem is attracted by England. he’s put him self in bad position, (not attractice attitude to sign) I will help him continue his career

  • 169 nufc1984 // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:26 PM

In turmoil, Olympique de Marseille can not handle several problems at once. Also, the Olympian Club president Jean-Claude Dassier, returned in a long interview with Le Figaro on the case Hatem Ben Arfa, he considers “major concern”. “I heard that Werder Bremen did not take. I hope that English clubs (Newcastle and Arsenal, ed) it will work and that Hatem is always attracted by England. I do not know either. I pray that it will spend the least possible harm to him but he put himself in a complicated situation. The attitude that was his in respect of the OM does not necessarily encourage other clubs to see what happens to bind (…). I will do everything to try to help him continue his career without injury, but Ben Arfa I really do not facilitate the task

  • 170 Sgt. Heagerty // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:26 PM

any thoughts on sale of smith to rangers..def cut down on wages…lose a leader but not much on the field, question is will upset the squad because smith seems well liked and a leader

  • 175 Fostino // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:29 PM

i hope so, and signing him on loan seems a good deal too in case his attitude does poison the dressing room

  • 177 Sgt. Heagerty // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:32 PM

    fostino,

i agree if the lad performs well, we will have first shot to buy him, if not we can send him back to france…no risk but possibly high reward. Especially if the fee is pre determined because if he does really well for us his value will go up, but if we agree ahead of time to 6 mil it wont matter

  • 178 MacToon // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:33 PM

Hate to be like this with someone in black n white but I’ll drive Smith there myself ;)

  • 179 Fostino // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:33 PM

    Sgt Heagerty

i wonder would chris let another leader in the dressing room go, he’s already lost butt so if he lost smith, that would leave nolan, barton and harper…but surely a new breed of leaders in campbell, williamson, s.taylor, carroll, de spanish speaking tio should emerge

  • 180 nufc1984 // Aug 21, 2010 at 11:43 PM

Watching motd an they were saying Peter otemwingie the Nigerian from west brom signed last night an he’s in squad today. Used to play for l.moscow. So if he didn’t need a permit and is playing straight after signing maybe there’s hope on tiote playing tommorrow depending on when papers were signed.
