22 year-old Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster is ready to go on another season long loan deal, this time to Glasgow Celtic, subject to a medical.
Fraser Forster – Magpies’ highly thought of goalkeeper to move to Celtic?
The 22-year-old 6’6″ keeper is very well thought of at Newcastle, but is still currently number 3 behind 35 year-old veteran Steve Harper and Dutch U21 goalkeeper Tim Krul.
Forster was sent on loan to League One Norwich City last season, and he impressed greatly in East Anglia, and Norwich manager Paul Lambert called him a world-class goalkeeper in the making.
Now the Hexham-born youngster is set to make it to the Scottish PL, if he completes a medical on Monday morning, and new Celtic manager Neil Lennon hopes he will provide competition for Lukasz Zaluska.
In fact Chris Hughton, the Newcastle manager will hope he will start for Celtic, as the obvious purpose of a loan move is to get the lad some games under his belt – but that will largely up to Fraser.
Neil Lennon said today:
“He’s a big boy, he’s come highly recommended, I’ve watched him myself a couple of times.” “His age, 22, is the only thing going against him because otherwise he’s all the qualities you look for in a goalkeeper.”
“He’s got a massive presence and he’s come highly recommended from people in the game whose opinion I trust, so if the medical goes okay, we’ll take him on board.” “We’ve needed competition in that area so he’ll add to that.”
You’ve got to believe that he also came highly recommended by former Newcastle coach and player, Alan Thompson, who is now helping Neil Lennon out as an assistant coach at the Glasgow powerhouse.
We think this could be a good move for the young goalkeeper, and if he’s as good as we think, Fraser will be Celtic’s number one this season.
Comments welcome.

Comment #44Today showed how good Smith can be, and that people on here criticise him for no reason.
Only area of the pitch today that looked poor was right wing. Routledge isn’t good enough at this level. 🙁

Comment #50I thought rowtledge had a good game. He can go past people with ease but as was highlighted on motd last nite bowt Theo Walcott, sometimes the quickest players don’t have best footballing brains or make best decisions. Give the lad a chance. We’ll need him more than ever once u all realise this kid on twitters lifting your leg about hba an he’s not signing at all!! 😉

Comment #66truth is lads, after today, im not as worried about the season. i know its just one game but we looked like the same team that walked through the soda pop like a walk in the park. if we can play like that against the bottom 10 we are gonna be mid table. And if we can chip a few from the top half we might be dreaming

Comment #78Agreed, I think Williamson was great at OT and again brilliant today. The problem for defenders is you really don’t get the recognition you should when you have your striker scoring a hat-trick! For me Williamson’s performance was just as accomplished as Carroll’s!
