In Case You Missed It – Cheick Tiote Signs For Newcastle

With the excitement of Newcastle’s 6-0 walloping of Aston Villa at St. James’  Park today, Newcastle announced at half time that they had signed FC Twente player Cheick Tiote.

Cheick Tiote – now a Newcastle United player

The signing is dependent on Newcastle being able to get a work permit for the Ivory Coast International, which should hardly be a difficulty.  Tiote has passed his medical and the player has now become the fourth signing of the summer for the Newcastle United club.

Managing Director Derek Llambias said in his program notes today:

“Nobody inside this football club is under any illusions about the challenges we face this season, and there is no doubt that this is a hugely important campaign for the club in lots of different ways.”

“But the most important aspect is that we get things right out on the pitch.” “We’ve been working hard this summer to bring in the type of players required to make sure we’re still a Premier League team this time next year.”

“And while we’ve been delighted with our signings so far in James Perch, Dan Gosling and Sol Campbell, we’re still working behind the scenes to give ourselves the best possible chance of competing in the top flight.”

“To get this club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking was a fantastic achievement and was a real team effort.” “Everybody played their part including the supporters and we need to do it all over again.”

Good words from Derek, and don’t they sound just that little bit better after a 6-0 win?

And after the game today manager Chris Hughton said this about the player:

“He is a defensive midfield player – we feel it’s such an important area in this division.  Alan Smith is probably our only defensive midfielder in the (current) squad.

“Hopefully there will be one or two more signings before the window closes.”

This should be another good signing and hopefully as CH says we’ll have some more hopefully in the next week.

This game should settle the whole team down, Carrolls on the score sheet and it can give us confidence to push on now and not fear anyone, especially at SJP. Well most clubs anyway!

I hope none of the ‘so called’ supporters come on here now saying how well CH has done and James Perch etc. I read some of the comments on another story after the line up had been announced and couldn’t believe some of the comments. Disgraceful, call yourselves supporters! Moaning about 4-5-1 and this, that and the other-shocking. We don’t need supporters like that, go and support the mackems instead.

Don’t know anything about Tiote, must be half decent and will boost the numbers so v.pleased.

Well done CH and boys for today’s game-best i’ve seen us play in years!outstamding football at times.

I cant see why we would want another CB… maybe a fringe left back or Santa? I would like to see Santa here, but you can rest assured that Mark Hughes will be trying to get him at Fulham… either way lets hope we see a LB and a striker in the coming week. Great result today, amazing performance where a good team were soundly beaten by 11 players who have just come from the championship. Lets hope the good form continues 🙂

@RichK: It’ll happen – mark my words. I don’t understand how any fan of NUFC could half heartedly support the club. I’m getting a tattoo on wednesday and accidentally booked it 30 minutes before kick off, when I realised my mistake I was bloody raging.

…but I have an iPhone so that Sky Sports app will be very helpful 😀

Cheik Ismael Tiote is a young and descent player. He is very powerful and aggressive. Which we don’t really have around the defense. He will give competition to Smith and other players. Looking forward to seeing him play.

GT89, I believe anything can happen nowadays in football, little loyalty shown by players.

Like Ireland slagging off the money grabbers at City when he’s gone and bought a white Bently with pink wheels for his lass.

If Arfa wants big money then he’s come to the wrong place, if he wants to play football then maybe he might sign.

Completely agree RichK, I was disgusted by some of the comments, especially baring in mind this was only our second game of the season, and the first was manure and home. Hope this result keeps some of the doubters quiet (at least for a while).

MacToon, I’ve got to say I agree with Ireland. Didnt he get player of the season the year we got relegated? Plus he worked his way up through the youth team and that. The only reason he got frozen out is because Man City suddenly had limitless funds so felt they had to sign basically a whole new starting 11 every season so far.

He was going on saying basically the club is made up of mercenaries now and its really hard to disagree with him.

I’m with Stuart here. Ireland is a great player thrown out for names and wage checks.

I really hate crappy players going for lots of money. You just look like an absolute idiot when you do that. Stephen Ireland is a good player but had an absolutely horrible day.

If Ireland had come out with something like

Yeah I’ve had alot of good years at City and was player of the season but I’m not in their plans now and really looking forward to playing for Villa.

I wouldn’t have used him as an example of loyalty in football but after reading his interview this morning just thought it was a bit rich of him slagging off what people paid for their watches etc.

WHY ARE PEOPLE TALKIN ABOUT IRELAND BEING A GOOD SIGNING FOR US? – he got battered in midfield today
I dont want ireland or lescott or santa cruz but maybe Ben arfa tbh however, we were unbelievable today and once jonas and rout get a few games under their belt they will be great

quick word about xisco – for the short time he was on the pitch and with the game won he showed more determination than ever before, gave two fouls away and made big lad’s hat trick goal!
watched the game on ESPN and Brian Little noted that for the first time in years we looked like a proper club, with all aspects settled and committed.
Well done Hughton and Calderwood, and yes, here it comes ….. Ashley and Llambias.
