Jonas Gutierrez As Good As Rooney, Fabregas And Torres

Lionel Messi has come out today and made some big claims about how good Newcastle winger Jonas Gutierrez is.

Jonas Gutierrez -as good as Rooney, Torres or Febregas?

Indeed, Lionel considers the 27-year-old to be at the same level as Premier League stars Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas, although that’s hard to believe,  even though Jonas is a big favorite on Tyneside.

Messi told the Daily Star today:

“The Premier League have not seen it yet but Jonas is one of the best players in the league.” “I know you guys have Rooney, Fabregas, Torres and many more stars – but Jonas is as good as any of them.”

“I am backing him to show it this season. Maradona calls him one of the three most important players in the Argentina squad and I think he is right – that is how good he is.”

“It takes time for a player to adjust to a new country and he has now been there long enough to show his true form.” “By the end of the season I would expect the very best teams in Europe to be trying to sign him.”  “But he told me during the World Cup that, as long as Newcastle stay in the top-flight, he would like to finish his career there.”

Newcastle signed Gutierrez from Real Mallorca for around £5M in the summer of 2008, while Kevin Keegan was still manager at the club , and the Argentine has since played 68 games for the club since arriving from Spain.

Messi has been with Barcelona since he was just 8 years old, and has never played outside the Spanish League, so maybe doesn’t know too much about the Premier League, and his claims about Jonas seem a little far-fetched, to say the least.

But that doesn’t stop Messi from believing  his Argentine Jonas can lead the famous Newcastle club to place in Europe this season, and take Player of the Year honours in the Premier League.

“I would expect the Spider-Man mask to be out quite a few times this season but his real talent comes in creating goals.” “He is a fantastic winger, can beat players with ease and is a fantastic crosser of the ball.”

“If Newcastle have one or two good target men, I think they can have a really good season because Jonas will create a lot of chances for the strikers.” “He can fire Newcastle to a top-six finish and win the player of the season award above names like Rooney.”

We certainly hope that Jonas can have a very good season at Newcastle, and no doubt he’s a good player and well liked by Newcastle fans.

But what exactly has Lionel been smoking recently?

Is CH listening to the comments about good target men? Not just Carroll as target man! Can Jonas do it on his own from the wing? Does Messi also mean we need some playmaking in midfield as well? I believe Jonas can supply our target men, rather than target man, if CH plays them. No matter – Villa already know we are playing Carroll up front on his own today.

Although I don’t think that Jonas is as good as those players mentioned, I think it’s a bit disingenuous to claim that Lionel Messi, an internationally renowned professional footballer doesn’t know anything about the premier leauge.

    What Messi says is.

“The Premier League have not seen it yet but Jonas is one of the best players in the league”.

So in other words. We are still waiting for Jonas to hit top gear.

I think when he is running with the ball, he is one of the very best I’ve seen. When it comes to a final pass, a defence splitting cross and scoring goals, he has been a bit of a let down. He has so much undoubted quality and if we are to stay up, we’ll need him to be firing on all cylinders

I think messi has been on a crack cocaine binge with Diego and phill Mitchell. Gazza supplied the rods and chicken.

Is it just me or does messi sound like s toon fan?? Haha

Agree with jamesking420. Ed you have also not played in the Premier League. does that mean that you maybe don’t know too much about the Premier League?

I like Jonas and think he will be a success but to say he is up there with Rooney, Fabregas and Torres you’d have to have been snorting some of Maradona’s medicine 🙂

We signed him as also having an offensive central midfield capability – but we never try him there. He’d be a lot more of a handful than Hop-a-long Nolan, that’s for sure.

Jonas is one of the Premier League’s best players, he just hasn’t shown it fully yet. This season I’m certain that he will!!!

After today’s game you all won’t be saying that at least for the next 6 days.
    He was great today.

He has his faults, but what player doesn’t?
