The Sunday Sun is reporting today that Newcastle have clinched a deal for Ivory Coast midfielder Cheick Tiote.
Cheick Tiote – a Newcastle player?
The news this morning is that Tiote has completed a medical and has also agreed personal terms with the Newcastle club, who are expected to confirm their 4th signing of the summer soon.
Of course the deal is dependent on a work permit being obtained for the player, and the fee has been reported as around £3.5M.
The 5’9″ player will be at the Aston Villa game today, but will not feature in the Carling Cup game at Accrington Stanley in mid-week, but could be in the Newcastle squad for the game at Wolves next weekend – depending on getting his work permit.
The Ivory Coast International is fast and powerful and will certainly add some energy, creativity and zest to the Newcastle midfield – which is exactly what we need.
Cheick played in all three of Ivory Coast’s World Cup games during the summer, and the 24-year-old was also pursued by West Brom and Everton.
But Newcastle is thought to have been Cheick’s first choice, and the Tyneside club has moved quickly to tie up the deal in the last few days.
