A good coach always keeps his players looking to get better, and Chris Hughton is obviously an excellent coach, and seems to be guiding Andy Carroll to potential greatness, slowly but surely.
Chris Hughton – coaching Andy Carroll to potential greatness?
Newcastle’s new number nine was in sensational form at St. James’ Park yesterday afternoon, and ended up with his first ever hat-trick for the Newcastle United club.
And Chris Hughton believes the 21 year-old striker is full of confidence at the moment, but still has areas of his game where he can get better and improve on.
Chris talked about his young and very promising striker:
“Andy’s overall performance was in line with how he has been,” “He has had a good pre-season and I thought he was excellent at Old Trafford last Monday.””There was plenty of running about him, not just his ability in the air, but his work ethic for the team as well. He’s is a lad who is very confident at the minute.”
“He is developing his game – there are areas of his game he can still improve, but he knows that. He doesn’t have much fear in his game and always wants to play.” “If you know there are areas in which you can improve and you are prepared to do the hard work that comes along with that, you have got every chance.”
“What he has done is work hard to develop his game, but we all know and certainly centre-forwards will know it is about scoring goals.” “He was able to do that last season – it was something we asked of him, could he add goals to his game, and in the lesser division, he was able to do that.” “Now the challenge for him is to do it in this division.”
It seems like Andy has everything it takes to be the next great Newcastle number 9 striker, but he cannot get carried away or believe his own headlines in the press — otherwise it will be downhill for the youngster.
Andy has to keep his head down, and listen closely to what Chris and the other coaches at Newcastle tell him over the next few months.
If he does that, and only of he does that, can Andy fulfill his enormous potential and become yet another legendary Newcastle number 9 striker.
Certainly it will be exciting to see just how good Andy Carroll can become at Newcastle.
Comments welcome.

I must have missed his goal at OT because I seem to remember him getting our best player award for that game too 😉
What impresses me is his ability to play football aswell as obviously scoring, even at OT his work rate and playing ability was apparant with praise coming from SAF aswell as the Toon army.
3 goals from his left foot when we all probably realise it’s his heading ability that’s is his strongest atribute.
Long may it last, Carroll for no.9 😆

Comment #9newcastle 10, no thanks, we have plenty of forwards in his mould, we need pace up front, and another winger, cant see either coming in though, especially after sunday, its the perfect excuse for the fat man to not spend money

Comment #10Can’t see us signing another striker.
CH likes this 4-5-1 system and as you can see, when it works, it works well.
With Loven, Shola, Best and Ranger all still at the club, I canno see us getting in another striker, especially Santa Cruz as he’ll be on a wad of cash.
I can still see us getting in HBA and one other, probably a left back or another attacking midfielder.
Time will tell but for me, if we got HBA in and another left back / or player than is good there, that would do me.

Comment #12We dont need another injury prone player like Santa, furthermore hes in the same dimension like Carroll and Ameobi (dont know why CH still gives him the time on pitch)

Comment #13You cant have too many goalscorers in a squad. To do well you need to have scoring options when the injuries and suspensions kick in.
If we can get RSC on loan we should go for him!!

Comment #14As much as I enjoyed yesterday’s victory. I thought that game would be the ideal time to throw on the likes of Vukcic and Tavernier for a bit of premiership experience. I can’t see why he used R.Taylor and Shola

Exactly my point! We were cruising 4-0, surely it wont hurt to put Vuckic/Tavernier instead of Ameobi and R.Taylor!

Comment #18When are you all going to realise that ben arfa isn’t and was never coming to th toon?? When u think of his wages, his status as a big player and his champions league experience and winning title with marseille and Lyon why would he want to come to a newly promoted club when surely if his wages were that low he could have had his pick of all pl clubs. Think we have all built it up to be something it’s not I’m afraid. We seem to get each other excited over it. Santa cruz would be a bad signing. Bit like vidula. Over rated and always injured. And his wages would be huge.

Comment #19Strolla and Ranger should probably go out on loan, so this will free up a requirement for a proven EPL striker to partner Andy.

Comment #20I think chris hughton has made his main priority another defender, and a winger if he can get one in, apparently we have made another offer for lloyd samuel 🙁 suppose he can cover left back and centre half, which is one thing.
Team for the cup:-
—————————krul
perch——–williamson—-campbell——kadar
r.taylor——-vuckic———smith———xisco
—————-ameobi——-ranger

Comment #21I didn’t see the point in bringing on xisco which meant we again had 3 strikers on when we were 5 up.
Admittedly, he set up AC for his hat trick but we had lost the midfield superiority and he lost possession twice before that.
I thought that was the ideal time to bring on a young lad in midfield!
Aah well, they’ll get their chance against Accrington.

Maybe move Kadar to LB and put Williamson in so he and Perch can build up a better understanding of eachother??
